Who is the oldest

I am 58,

Have been driving HGVs since I was 21,
down to town hall on my 21st birthday give them 10/- and they swop your car licence for a HGV.

Then off to Bristol in TK bedford next morning in thick fog, scary
Then “grandfather rights” when licensing laws changed.

Have driven Fodens, Scammels, Seddon, Thornycroft, AEC, Guy Big J
Still got the grooves in my hands from roping and sheeting.

31 - Started driving vans and 7.5t then at 21 got my class 1. Have been driving them for the last 10 years on and off, with various other jobs tried, but always seem to end up back in the drivers seat.

23yrs old, started driving in '99, got my Class 2 in '03 and Class 1 two weeks ago so im still very much the rookie.

40 :frowning:

Got class 3 in 1982 at 17 (Bedford TL)

Class 2 in 1983 at 18 (Foden GS 8 legger)

Class 1 in 1985 at 20 (Volvo F10)

All while in the Royal Corps of Transport

= 23 years driving trucks

62, Car licence from 1960 and HGV since 1971.

I don’t drive much nowadays (Lorries), just the odd relief driver job which pays better than the local agency C+E rate, when they ring up if I don’t fancy it they ring someone else. It’s a nice bit of beer money on top of the company pension.

39… got class2 in 91,got class1 in 94.and never paid for either

32…tractors at 13 …car licence in 1990…class 1 in 95…didnt get used full time till about 7 years ago…

im 27, got my class 1 & 2 in 1997. been full time for 3 years, part time for 3 years before that in my spare time. plus another 2 years previous to that. the first 5 years was spent in the army doing agency work from the age of 21

11 years class 1. Still got loads to learn.

im 34 only been driving class 2 since last august so loads to learn

62, first got my bike licence in my teens with the Terriers on a 1943 BSA.
Passed my car licence at 21 and went out same day and got an HGV job (no licence then).
Been driving on and off ever since small, large, and very large. (Including 23,000 ton tanker through Suez. Very hairy with a 200 yard bonnet to look over :open_mouth: ).
Never took a test, never took a lesson (for HGV that is).

That makes Dave (Sheeter) and me neck and neck. Come on John Townrow where are you? I know we are not the oldest!

Salut, David.

32
Tractors from 13
7.5t from 17, horse boxes and trailers, class1 4 1/2 years.

S’pose I might as well join in …

44, started 2 weeks after my 18th on a dodge 7.5, Class 1 8 weeks after my 21st.

until 7 or 8 years ago I came & went a few times, around in circles (usually left to work for meself for a while, then a job turned up & i would take it because times were hard).

Since 96 or 97 i havn’t had a “job”, but done quite a few odds & ends to supplement my early stages of self employment.

Last time I drove a class 1 was the day I sold the magnum & have NO intention of doing it. Licence up for renewal (medical) in November - i might bother :unamused:

SHEETER … March, Cambs ■■ Who have you worked for, might know you ?

im 33 at present

i started nickin bikes at the tender age of 12 ,got bored with that and moved on to cars, you know the usual stuff thrashing them round industrial estates until they blew.

got bored with that and started to make a substantial profit breaking them and selling parts on ebay

but back to the real world i have held a car licence since1990 and class 2 since 1999 and class1 since 2000

I’m 35, passed car test in 1989 and had various jobs driving vans and 7 1/2 tonners.
Passed class 2 and class 1, 2 1/2 years ago. Love every minute of driving, even though I get some duff jobs from the agency I still can’t get enough.
