You must make a killing in that job
Yes, I do make a killing. But have to explain to people
in the strictest confidence - in case it beacomes a dying art
Drivers have about the same chance of keeping their job as Gordon Brown does
Tiger.
the driving has quietened down a bit but i am not that bothered the bailiffing has seen a bit of a upturn . i try and do a change over once a week to keep me in the good books as in december around the 12th the councils give the debtors a amnesty and the firm i drive for are flat out i usually end up doing a typical run to haydock livingstone then reload out of peterhead to either boulogne or concarneau and if it is boulogne it is usually cheese back to peter greens at evercreech and if it is concarneau it could be anything to anywhere but always back before of on the 23rd dec
I feel pretty safe for now anyway I’m in Mail distribution.the bigger trailers we are using though may be different.

The way things are going at the moment who reckons their job is safe and why…![]()
Define safe, i go to Afghanistan next month for three months solid work
I deliver paper to printers for a logistics company, we dont seem any quieter than usual, and have recently started delivering paper on behalf of some other paper companies too, we have been taking on full time staff from the agency so I feel ok im ny job, although some of the printers have noticed that it is a bit slow going now that we are on the run up to xmas - busiest time of the year normaly.
i’m pretty safe at the moment, in the navy and we dont have enough manpower to fully compliment the ships due to op tours. not a good sign but excellent for job security!
very slow on the weekend driving though, as it quietens down the regular drivers get first preference, which i agree with, before they use us part timers. not had any work for two weeks now on the wagons and thats on reefers so not looking good. i guess we will see over the next few weeks until the supposedly pick up for xmas!

working for a major food distribution company id say we’re safe,we deliver frozen/chill and ambients foodstuffs to schools, hotels, pubs restraunts etc etc and everyone has to eat…
Hi all, I would have said up until recently my job was safe. I drive for Asda, however recently our transport manager has decided it’s cheaper to use outside contractors and agency drivers to deliver to stores, while our own drivers sit round doing nothing. (we’re all convinced there are under the table dealings going on) we’re due to lose half our stores when the new Didcot asda DC opens next year, so it doesnt look too good!
we are stupidly busy already for next year, so i think me and kindle will be ok, the problem will be if we DONT want to work at any point next year getting the time off
WORKING FOR EVENTS COMPANY LOOK LIKE WE HAVE MORE WORK NEXT YEAR THAN WE HAD THIS YEAR
I work for Stobbies so Deffo safe isn’t it

There’s more to food distribution than trollies. Check out bulk tipper hauliers, bakeries, ingredient suppliers, flour mills, agricultural suppliers etc.
Too true.
90% of our work is sugar and flour to the RDCs and they can’t get enough of the stuff at the moment.
Sales of flour seem really buoyant at the moment in particular. I know that the lead up to Chistmas will have an influence, but I also think people are baking more rather than buying convenience foods from the supermarket.
I have assessed several new drivers recently and I know we have taken at least three of them on in the last ten days, so I assume we’re pretty much OK.
driving a dustcart ,they will always need rubbish collecting
