as long as you all keep going into services and buying the food i should be o.k

The way things are going at the moment who reckons their job is safe and why…![]()
If collecting rent from the DSS for the single mum renting an overpriced is deemed as safe, Then its safe as houses

I feel fairly secure, working for a mail order distribution company.
As things get tight more people buy on credit from catalogues.
i hope thats not for freemans
well touch wood company doing more then ever at the mo just had a new truck and 3 more to come next month and he has taken on another driver so fingers X
Who has a safe job?
Thats easy, any one in the public sector.

Supermarket trollies is the way to go.People still have to eat![]()

There’s more to food distribution than trollies. Check out bulk tipper hauliers, bakeries, ingredient suppliers, flour mills, agricultural suppliers etc.
My sector (bulk animal feeds) is always busy from now till April.
Agencies are very quiet. 3 months ago I was averaging 4 days a week. Now I’ve had 2 days in 2 months.
As long as people want or break glass I should be ok but who knows.
Noted a definite decline in orders from the window & doors industry.
i dont think anyone is a 100% safe these days - banks that have been around for 100’s of years where facing collapse without the goverment’s help - and any company can be bought or sold which always leads to new owners having new ideas and restructuring, even the food sector isnt untouchable IMO.
I’m reasonably safe as I was first in.
I do as i’m told, and don’t make too many mistakes!
The bosses seem to be intent on keeping their jobs, very hands-on, and keep a close eye on firms we do business with.
Here’s hoping!

Not if the Govt changes!!
Not too sure at the moment.
Was driving this for a living up until yesterday,
And from Monday, this is my new ride.
Same company, so have just been moved sideways but the remaining transporter drivers are looking like they are going on a 4 day week.
Never done general haulage before, but at least I have got a decent sized cab to live in.
I’ve recently left driving recovery trucks as the combination of high fuel prices & looming recession meant the work almost totally dried up.
Did 13 weeks agency with a company then transferred to permanent, it’s well run, the TM is a pure oldskool pro, good wagons, good pay & nice people all round. The resident truck fitter eats drivers for breakfast but show me one who doesn’t.
Work is booming, they typically set on 1 new driver a month but there’s a lot of talk about increasing this. Staff turnover is very low & you can tell everythings hunky dory when the main whingeing point is puddles in the staff car park . . . I kid you not.
I regularly bump into drivers with the competition & they say pretty much the same, the whole industry is booming & set to rise further.
Waste recycling is the way to go.

I deliver Bricks and Blocks…At the moment we are ok but the subbies arenot doing too well, I do believe some have been laid off.
But we are taking delivery of some new 8 wheelers next month
The site work is very quiet but the merchants are ok …just, also The DIY stores
are quite bouyant at the moment, might get better next week as it’s half term.
Lets all hope and pray that the fuel prices continue going down.
Spoke to a friend who has a couple of trucks on scrap and he is really
i too deliver bricks/blocks/roof tiles/block pavers/slabs/bagged aggregates etc as does my mate (who’s on here regular),we both independant hauliers, and too our surprise haven’t slowed down as yet…the “big firm” to whom we do our main work for has got rid of countless of there own full time drivers & sold the vehicles from various depots in uk and yet keep telling us “don’t worry your safe” …i just keep taking them at there word, what else can you do?
struggling, he said the price has gone down from £140 per ton to£20

He has laid 2 drivers off this week, he has no idea what
he is doing next week.
Who wants to know ?Are you any good with the “salt peter”? . . . if you are, might have just the thing for you. Nice little bank job coming up . . . wink wink
i know two owner drivers still flat out on bricks/blocks/tiles/pavers/slabs etc…most surprised.
no one has a “safe” job now . unless your robbing a bank !!!
not me either, but if you all turn to the booze when you do get laid of im laughing
As long as people stay in hotels and get married etc my job is safe…we have just took on new business and extra trucks.
Aslong as companies keep having stuff made in China I’m fairly safe. My boss knows that I dont want to side shift over to general haulage unless its continental.
