Does anyone on here have contact with the driver of the truck/van? What has happened since the incident, has he had any comeback from employer etc?
Looks like his facebook page is only open to “friends”…

Idiot drunk bloke runs out in front of you in town on Friday night. Do you brake and give him a chance, or put you foot down " to make sure the idiot gets what he deserves". It seems some of our fellow drivers would choose the second option, bloody glad I’m out the game sometimes.
Regards. John.

so you would put an innocent woman in a hospital bed to prove your macho superiority ?+1
It was the caravanist that drove into the truck though wasn’t it. Why should anyone give way to these ■■■■-wits? They just carry on blithely disregarding other motorists who usually avoid the accident they would otherwise cause, until they come unstuck in a situation like this. With any luck he might think a bit more in future about his driving, but I doubt it.
Incidentally I think that the woman passenger was running to try and grab the car that was in front of the truck as a witness.

Pick ur knuckles up of the ground FFS, no one is perfect apart from you and one or two other posters on here, and as has been said many times before … I wonder what give ‘truckers’ a bad name
edit … very apt user name (even if misspelt)
Hoooraaay! I was hoping for the personal insults to start!
I don’t pretend to be perfect and will admit to making many mistakes both in life and in my driving career BUT one thing I wouldn’t do (despite the user name) is barge my way into a queue on the motorway whilst crossing chevrons, smashing my caravan to bits and potentially injuring people. If that’s the way you drive and expect others to get out your way, then crack on.
I have in the past eased off to let people in but you’ve got to draw a line somewhere and the onus to merge safely in on the one merging. If the guy was just in a car I could see the merits in what he was doing as there was a small gap, but to think he has the right to squeeze himself into a gap that size is frankly ludicrous.

Robroy is quite right. Anyone who believes that the trucker isn’t partly responsible for forcing an accident which was quite unavoidable has no business driving a sit-on lawnmover let alone a lorry. That said, the attitudes of some in this thread go quite a way to explaining the gung-ho, out-of-my-way, Billy Big Trucker antics I see on an almost daily basis, such as the Dumfries Freight idiot who was following a car about three feet off its bumper at 50mph in the chevrons on the M6 near Middlewich yesterday.
The attitude that the bloke’s missus ‘got what she deserved’ beggars belief, as does that which regards it OK to cause chaos for thousands of others while the clean-up was going on just for the sake of showing how big a man you are.

What would YOU have actually done if YOU had been the driver of the truck/van ? (considering ur post quote above)
For what it’s worth my opinion of the wobble box jockey is he is a complete ■■■■ !
but you’ve got to draw a line somewhere
No , you don’t.
everybody agrees that the caravan driver caused the initial situation and is a ■■■, but there is no way anyone can exonerate the truck driver.
The caravan driver made a series of mistakes, either by carlessness or stupidity, the truck driver intentionally made an accident inevitable when he could have perhaps avoided.
Drivers who see the act of driving as a battle for supremacy of the road, even if in the right lane etc, shouldn’t be driving anything.
Yes officer I often ease off to let people in, but I’m sure you will agree " you’ve got to draw the line somewhere “, so as this bloke with the caravan was driving like a complete dangerous idiot, I chose on this occasion to speed up to ensure I collided with him because I am sure you agree as I said before " you’ve got to draw the line somewhere”
Regards.John.
At the end of the day, they both ended up with damaged vehicles as a result of this ‘incident’.
Let’s hope they BOTH receive some hefty fines, to reflect the bedlam that must have ensued when the M5 exit was effectively blocked off by these pair. Caravanner for reckless driving and trucker for driving without due care and consideration sounds fair to me.
Interesting that this thread has ’ pistonheads ’ mentioned. A more accurate depiction of your 2015 modified corsa driver;
’ ■■■■■■ & on steds '.

^^ Bravo…
And, the thing is, nobody would ever use those words as a defence, but that is EXACTLY what the video says, and I think is what the insurance, police and his boss is going to see… I drew the line here, burnt ■■■■ loads of extra fuel and caused damage and blocked a major motorway junction, but at least the driver of that 1 vehicle now knows exactly where I draw the line…
The fact it was a 4x4, high centre of gravity so increased chance of it ‘flipping’ and potentially injuring people doesn’t matter.
The fact that the mini-bus infront was let in without so much drama by a ‘normal’ driver doesn’t matter.
I’m driving this vehicle in a professional manner and will destroy anything that will slow me down by 2-10 seconds, and rather spend 1 minute calling the guy a ‘■■■■■■■ ■■■■■■■■■ and telling him ‘how much trouble he’s in’ and then another hour filling out forms, and another half an hour publishing it on Youtube to get all my mates to support me, MUCH better than losing 10 seconds to let that ‘bully’ in…
I haven’t seen any pictures of the caravan did it get damaged in this incident

Although impossible to tell for sure as it out the shot of the dashcam, looking at the approach angle of the towcar in the last few seconds of footage, it’s highly likely that it has slammed into the drivers side of the truck’s cab.
I would imagine the truck has got significant damage on the front end too. Almost certainly took out his grill, lights and radiator.
The only ‘winner’ is the repair companies… Madness…
I was thinking about this thread yesterday coming into Taunton where the d/c turns into single. Usual thing where you get the over takers trying to barge in. This guy in a 4x4 (no caravan) was determined to get in front of me, kept moving over and barged right in front of me in a gap that was far too small. I forced the ■■■■■■■ over and wrecked his 4x4 as I had right of way
Not really I let him in (reluctantly) it did really happen though call it road rage, but when we stopped further up I got out and called him a prick
…but to be fair he did say sorry. No damage, no insurance pay outs, no casualties, no hold ups …job done
Well last night I saved a lot of truckers acres of aggravation, was going away for the long weekend in the van but the weather dictated otherwise, but I’ll get you another time for sure
that’s two of us then , the wife is non too well otherwise we should be off soon laying waste to vast tracts of scotland with the dreaded wobble box . comforting to think that the world will be so much safer without us . bave
One thing for sure the ■■■ hole caravan driver wont do that again and either will the truck driver.
Im going with the trucker he was right he just got to the point of no return, its a pity he could not keep the van on the motorway it would have looked a lot better for him
Truck driver was wrong. Simple as that. We all know that the secret to keeping people out of the gap is to make that gap as unattractive as possible! Any more than 8 inches and you’re asking for trouble and must be prepared to yield.
Probably.
It’s a good job for that driver that it was a guy in a pink polo shirt that got out of that 4x4, and not 4 six foot Romanies on their way to do some drive-tarmacing .(…or whatever they do ) or it might have been him and not that old bird running down the M5.
