Who do you drive for?

Hi

I’m new to the forum as I’m returning to trucking after a break.

I’m intrigued why nobody puts who they drive for. Is there a rule against this, or is there another reason?

Nice to meet you all

No rule just personal choice I suppose, i drive for Asda by the way it’s no secret, what about yourself ?

Because it is not a AA meeting, "Hello I am Steve and drive for Joe Bloggs   "
The other reason is that not everybody wants their Boss to now what they think about them without losing their job, social media is a funny old thing.
A word can be sharper than a knife, and because internet doesn’t show emotions, it can be understand by the reader totally different as the writer means.

Think before you push the submit button, there is no way back :smiling_imp: :imp:

a couple of our drivers moaned about the Company on facebook, :unamused: and were hauled up in front of the Boss

My boss knows I’m on here, I’ve shown him things on here quite a few times.

The other owner knows about this site too, but I’m pretty certain he’s not on here, he’s not the most computer literate. The fact that I asked him to forward an email for my collection one day and what I got was a picture of his computer screen with the email on it, reinforces that thought

Working for a small firm with 3 artics, 8 rigids and run by one bloke ( the other one only covered his holiday ) helps though. It cuts out all the middle management bs and back stabbing!

I work for Pittaway Transport in Bromsgrove

I “drove” at a training company ,that was that
All a waste of cash .do not buy into the ■■■■■■■■ driver shortages .
This industry is “Devided and conquered” :unamused:

Many companies have policies about the use of social media, which if you happened to make a defamatory comment could get you the sack

O/D so work for myself… i dont have to exactly find my own work, i sub for a large company based in Malaga Province and pull their tilts/ various other companies from Hungary/ Greece and Portugal back and forth to Calais/Reims.

Going through the topic where people post pictures of their truck gives it away who they work for normally. If I saw a topic relating to my company I make it known when replying that I work for them.

Generally if your not on here slating the people you work for or posting company business like how much we charge customers etc then their shouldn’t be any issues.

I like my anonymity…

I don’t tweet, I’m not on Fakebook, I’m not Pinterested or on any other social media thingy.

As already mentioned, saying things are wrong or you’re not happy with certain working practices really don’t enhance your career prospects.

Forums and message board users have always had a degree of anonymity. Whether it be in their silly user names i.e: Ivor Biggun, Mike Hunt, Norfolk and good etc. Or to separate their personal lives from their views expressed online. But with the advent of social media such as farcebook insisting on real names, and work colleagues becoming online friends, the anonymity is starting to become blurred which is allowing those you work & socialise with to see your real self, this then can spill over into your work life and views expressed about your work environment might be seen as derogatory by your employers.

One of the best laughs on this forum was a couple of years ago, when the prick who runs that Jock outfit that pays his drivers a pittance for driving flash top range motors, came on here moaning about being slagged off on here, made a complete prick of himself…comedy gold.

If firms don’t like their drivers giving their opinions of them they should not ■■■■ them about, pay them crap wages, or treat them like kids.
If they were confident that they treated their drivers well and done none of the above, what would they have to worry about.
A couple of firms I worked for in the past were spot on, and I would not have hesitated to have mentioned them on here in a positive way.

The firm I work for now is average, better than some but worse than past employers .
I do have a fairly good number compared to some of the other drivers. I do not broadcast who I work for (although one or two on here are aware), I try and keep it to myself, but I suppose the world would not end if it came out,… but I prefer things as they are tbh.

The fact that some firms are specifying that they do not want opinions expressed on social media goes to show that they are fully aware that they range from being unfair employers to complete showers of ■■■■.

Pollocks to them Rob

I paid the price for posting about my old boss on here. (Then I found out he was a member.) He told me to be careful what I wrote on the quiet in the yard one day.Later, I resigned due to a road rage incident that was my fault hands up. I requested to try again with the same company a year later…And was denied via an e-mail with my comments about said company from direct screen shots off this site. So I don’t think I’ve posted who I work for, ever since, just the type of work I do. Be careful what you type.

I’m sure that the Co I work for have a whole team of “managers” to monitor social media and such like but as I’ve not posted anything derogative I don’t see it being a problem tbh. Hell, I’ve even left my reg number in shot on the “pictures of your truck” thread.

Facebook is a different animal to here though, I do have an account although it’s under a false name primarily because I think that Facebook is a joint CIA/GCHQ tool to spy on us all. That probably says more about me than Mark Zuckerburg though.

I keep My employer to my self for pretty much all of the already posted reasons, I do talk about an employer (frans maas) that I worked for 12 years ago, partly because there is a topic on them on the old timers forum, and partly because its such along time ago.

Another reason is that I don’t want to have to feel that I might have to defend the actions of some of the idiots that I have the misfortune to have as colleagues. Nor the company, though I have no personal issues with them, but like all operators they want what they pay for, only no all seem to grasp this, and like all employers, maybe they don’t grasp that some times they are asking for more than they pay for, those conversations are for the ears of the managers only

I think that thread needs digging up again. I want a read of it.

WOW!

You do know that membership of Fakebook is voluntary don’t you?

You’re an intelligent man, your posts here are a testament to that. Why remain on Fakebook when you clearly (and rightly IMO) believe it to be the info gathering machine that it is?

just curious like

There was a smiley at the end mate!

I’m an Agency driver so don’t really need to worry to much I guess but I been on the same contract for the past couple months with DSV out of Chester Le Street
