A motorist has been found guilty of dangerous driving after he was caught driving at 62mph with both hands behind his head.
Richard Newton, 36, from Whitby, was filmed driving for about 30 seconds with both hands off the steering wheel, Scarborough Magistrates’ Court heard.
He was caught by a police safety camera van on the A171 between Whitby and Guisborough on 9 August.
Mr Newton, who had denied the charge, argued he was in control of the car.

If you’re caught driving with your hands behind your head, there’s really no point trying to get away with it. The best thing you can do is 'fess up and say sorry. Denying it, and arguoing that you’re in control of the car, only makes you look a bit of a tool. Who’s going to believe it?
Deserves all he gets it was on BBC Look north , I magine the uproar if it had been a HGV !

I can’t see the problem. It’s just a photo, For all we know he was simply having a refreshing stretch. But the big policeman say you’re a dangerous driver and everyone agrees.

I had to laugh when he denied it A ban was in order I think, if it had been a trucker there would have been an uproar.

It was a film actually…but my beef over it was there was enough resources used to trace ,then sen officers round to his house to cuff him

I wouldn’t want to support the car driver in any way, but it is strange how the police can always find enough manpower when the pickings are easy isn’t it
