we just had our first baby and my other half wanted me home every night. but now shes 1.5 years young so ive been allowed to take off again
So you’re leaving your wife to bring up your 1.5 yro daughter all on her own while you enjoy the peace and quiet and high life of living in your big rig all week touring the UK. Nope, that relationship definitely won’t end in tears…
What are you a personal relationship advisor she knew about it when we got married 3yrs ago so… in SICKNESS and in health
You didn’t have a kid 3 years ago.
To save an argument ive asked and she said that i can go that she will be fine.
They all say that, right up until the point you come home early one Friday to find her naked sat on top of your best mate’s ■■■■.
When a woman uses the word “fine”, it means the excrement is getting incredibly close to the air circulation device…

I’ve just gone back tramping after having my 2 week perternity. End of the day tramping brings home more money for me to spend on the bairn and there’s no way I could do a 13-15 hour day shift, go home and probably not get hardly any kip then be back on the road the next day and be alert and not knackered.
If I stoped tramping I would be £320-£400 a month down. Our lass is same as yours she’s ok with it and that’s all that matters. Means the time I’m at home with the daughter is even more special.
theres trampig vacancies at the truck stop and also at dav 1 on fmcg tesco contract im not gona slag any one down as i work as a tramper for stobarts …but dont apply for truckstop at rugby apply for fmcg at tesco daventry 1
I tramp for 2 weeks at a time on average. But I have recently re-married and want this one to work. I missed my kids growing uo because I was always driving, and missed my lad when he was ill. So come Xmas, I shall be finished. The end of the Euro work for good, and hopefully class 2 work back in Devon and home every night.

You lot really got me thinking… i still got some time to think things through… not much to think about really is it.
Whats the difference between them 2? Is dav1 only on tesco contract? Are you based in one of them?
I don’t find im worse off for not tramping as the night out money got spent on food & beer etc.
Sat here now looking at my 5 week old baby,if I was going to work for a week away now I’d be a right miserable sod but I know I will be home tomorrow at some time in the evening to see her.

truck stop will ■■■■ ya about even dragging ya back cause they want ya truck …tesco work is easy tanking to tesco depots and store work but ya do general haulage I’m on walking floors at swindon but did years at old crick depot then fav 1 when we all got moved
Still don’t understand this mentality of “I know I’ll be away from home, family and social life all week but at least I get a shiny blinged up truck to compensate”. Add in that for the most part you will be maxing your hours out or close too and the moneys not generally great when weighed up against the amount of hours you’ve had to do to get it. Everyone is different in what they want but for me its a no brainer - go to work in the morning, go home in the afternoon, have a life outside of work. At the end of the day you only get one chance in this world and until they invent time travel there’s no going back so don’t see the point of missing out on lots of important things in your life. The 2 most important things I consider with a job and work are do I get paid the most money for the type of work I like (retail/store work) and do the start/finish times suit me, not what truck am I driving and can I nearly kill myself in the process by doing 70 hours.
I currently do a lot of work for a couple of national retail companies and I bet I earn the same or maybe even more for around half the amount of hours than a lot of trampers do, what’s the catch - oh yeah I drive minimum spec units at both with anything from a diddy little 16ft single axle trailer up to a 45ft tri-axle, do between 2 and 4 local and regional stores a day depending on distance, have to actually do something other than drive by helping to unload cages with the store staff either on the loading bay or with a tail lift in the service yard, only around half my working day is actually spent in the cab behind the steering wheel, if my day goes into double figure digits “its been a long day” but what a shame because I get to go home every night to my own home and bed. As I’m typing this its just dawned on me that I’m not a proper truck driver because of the things I’ve just mentioned but do I care, NO because too me my class 1 licence is just a tool to earn a decent living that gives me a good work/home-life balance and not a lifestyle like a lot of truck drivers seem to aspire to.
ive been tramping for 6 years not long i know and i know theres lads on here that have done more miles in reverse than i have done going forward …when i went tramping i had 4 year old twin boys and was a masssive decision but the choice was we carried on living in a ■■■■■■ council estate where my kids were growing up with ■■■■ heads sitting in the road while they play out and druggies and i aint stuck up i grew up on a council estate one of the roughest in birmingham but i wasnt having that for my boys…we bought a 3 bed semi detached and 6 years on we are in the position where i can come off full time tramping and im going ltd company route doing days or nights maybe even little out all week …
point im making is i made the decision for me and my family and it paid off …each to there own some can do it some cant …but ■■■■ every one else and what they say its down to personal choice …and when i did go on it me and the wife said id give it a proper try 6 months if it didnt work come off it …

The difference being you had a goal, and seem to be on target, congratulations, that’s the way to do it.
The OP is already in a good job, if his avatar is anything to go by one of the best paying secure jobs in Northants, and going home every night to boot, yet he’s considering going tramping for a company where he will most certainly earn less and work more hours and be away from home, it just doesn’t make sense…he did ask for opinions and many of us who’ve been around the block a few times and seen (and suffered) the results of this have voiced our thoughts.

Yeh spot on mate, and well done. However the difference between you and matey boy was your first priority and consideration wasn’t whether you would be driving a big cab Volvo or not was it, so that’s a whole different ball bag ain’t it.
What ■■■■■■ me was the way he came across, like a few more types today, who look at the job as some kind of a ■■■■■■ hobby instead of a means of providing for his family. I don’t really give a ■■■■ about these type of drivers, but the problem is they are part of the reason the rest of us are on ■■■■ poor wages.
