Been told by Debenhams not to bother coming to work again, as there is no work; well, not until the run up till next Christmas. It’s just one of the benefits working for an agency I suppose when you don’t even get a days notice about ending your employment on what should have been a permanent placement.
Anywhere south of Bristol seems to be dead for work. Is there anywhere in the UK that still has job adverts out there for drivers? I’ve always been of the impression that places such as Northampton, MK & Swindon have had pretty high employment rates, but since the recession, and going in to the post-New Year period which is quiet anyway, I’m not at all sure.
If work won’t come to me down here, then I’ll pick up an old van, stick a matress in the back and live away through the working week if needed. I’ve done it before and whilst it’s hardly a good way to live, at least you can earn a wage. I don’t have a clue where to start looking, so any suggestions would be hugely appreciated…
I know from reading this board that plenty of people are in this position. It’s a real bugger when it happens to you though, as the reality of no money coming in hits home pretty darn hard. The South West isn’t great for work at the best of times, so I think a move is the only option, be it for lorry work or anything else.
id forget swindon wt with woolies havin one of there rdcs there there gona be a lot of drivers from there going on agency books i reakon ,your best bet probably m25 corridor or m keynes if your south west have you thought bt working for eddie at bridgewater(no ties nw either)i worked for them for a few years and they were pretty spot on
Just www.google.co.uk type in Class 1 driving in south west and waaaaa-laaaaaa there is a guarenteed job there
the trouble is they are the non existent jobs that appear everywhere on the net with search engines and agencies but the reality is when you apply it has gone quiet and those jobs are no longer available…

its too be expected at this time of year… i also predict it will be may- june before agency picks up again.
I would of thought the only place where there Might be any jobs would be in the food industry places like spalding Boston area…there are guys on Tnet who live there so they might know better…
I did hear a rumour that Hanson have 10 brand new trucks (Wagon & drag) parked up ready to go on the road in the New Year…various locations
try the european countries as all there drivers are over here stealing our jobs and getting paid penuts and as the saying goes pay penuts and you get monkeys
A lot of posts on here eventually leads to some sort of bigoted or racist comment like, they stole our jobs or they don’t drive as safe as us or something else derogatory.
A poster with flashing Scottish flags as his avatar, proud to be Scottish and rightly so but location! Hertfordshire !! We are all from somewhere else and do different things and are all just trying to make a living and get by in life. Some make life harder . I have used this forum since passing my test two years ago and it has been invaluable to me, but i am reluctant to read a thread nowadays because i get offended by the idiot and bigot brigade. Happy New Year to all on here and lets find someone else to blame next year .
