Where we up to with 50mph limit

Does anyone know if the limits for vans are changing too?

Indeed,no matter what the speed limit, sometimes it’s safe on the limiter and other times 30 is too fast.
I know what he means though, some need a speed limit to tell them how fast to drive.

i get that, but i also think that practically every other driver does too

have you ever heard anyone say, that truly meant it and not trying it on, the reason they crashed was because the corner couldn’t be taken at the speed limit?

You get it Stevie,I get it as do most others but there are many A roads around here where idiots don’t get it…they keep on at the same speed on a narrow road as on a motorway with the risk of breaking your mirror or putting you in the ditch and they’re long gone.
I’m sure you’ve had your fair share of that in your time Stevie

But that’s not what robroy is on about, he believes there’s a significant number of drivers that see the speed limit sign and think they can drive at that limit all the time on that road, around all the corners and in all conditions, presumably thinking they’re safe to do that because the limit says they can.

In England you will soon be able to do 50 on a single carriageway. Speeding will earn you a classroom session.

In Scotland you will only be able to do 40 and not got a the choice of a speed awareness course.

Could be worse. Adolf salmond could have got his own way.

Yeh,but I aint on about drivers that are drivers, ie. the ones that weigh up an A road and drive to conditions as such, I’m on about the hard of thinking types, especially the must crack on whatever the consquences types. The ones that already see a limit as a target (both in speed and driver’s hours) :unamused:
It’s bad enough now with them when they know they are doing wrong ( well maybe I’m crediting them with too much brain power there) but when they know it’s actually legal, ‘what’s a few k.s over the legal limit’ will be some’s way of thinking. Those are the guys I am referring to.
Here’s a scenario, a dodgy A road in say Devon. A pro driver is sat at 40/45/50 but Billy Bigballs is ‘cracking on’ a couple of k.s behind 50 to the limiter, as he is stupid enough to believe his boss that he actually IS on earnings related percentage bonus ( even though he is never told the truck gross earnings :unamused:  ) so he is sat behind up the driver’s arse, intent on making his boss more money and sat flashing his row of Hellas at the driver in front… who unfortunately is the sort that doesn’t or can’t ignore these d/heads, so he panics and speeds up to 50+ and ends up with an abrupt halt in a tree or whatever.
As I said we see these supertruckers now, just go on the Glespin to Auchinleck road up Scotch for instance and watch the well known walking floor lot.
I think the 50 is a good idea, if treated with driver professionalism and common sense, but you can not account for idiots and there lies the problem.

Ha ha ha did you ever drive on the A70 when the coal was on the go? 56 was too slow for most drivers. It’s a lovely road now until you get stuck behind some idiot that uses gay phrases like “up Scotch”

guaranteed fact they will be prosecuting from 40 upwards right up till 11-59 the night before it comes in…and then itl be as close to 50 as they can do you for from then on.

I guarantee it won’t, 23:59 on the day before the change being discussed comes in and 00:01 on the day it happens will be exactly the same on the A75.

the only thing different will be the size of the fine, getting done at 65 etc will just mean 15mph over the limit instead of 24mph over…no doubt they will be working on a new book to calculate it out from already so that we still end up crucified…the Tosco llot will still get their elbows taken off,but they used to that anyway…

You are talking complete ■■■■■■■■. If you get done at 65 in May on the A75 it will be exactly the same as getting done for 65 tomorrow. There will be no change.

You do know the 75s in Scotland?

ive not really paid much attention to the law for Scotland, but I suppose they wont make it the same as England if they can get away with it…so your right enough there…but if,as and when they ever do,you can bet itl be mercilessly implemented on the 75 to the letter of the law, right down to the last min and mile.it would be diff then,as just now caught at over 61 mph usually means stuffed with a careless driving instead of just speeding.after a 50 limit it would need to be 76mph as its 50% above the limit makes the difference. should be a good excuse for the English drivers on Scotland though, same as the drink drivers crossing the border.

used to deliver to muirkirk in my left ■■■■■■ and before limiters 65 mph was too slow :grimacing: and you had to tuck in to the left, OTHERWISE! :sunglasses:

Regardless of the 50mph limit on single carriageway, there’s still plenty of roads that’d make me uncomfortable going more than 40mph on.

As has been said, wouldn’t be surprised if it gets changed back due to some Motorheads turning trucks over on tight corners.

hats why its a LIMIT not a TARGET …just because it says 50 don’t mean you have to do 50 :unamused:
I don’t get what’s up with some people you’d think they were going to complete the 2 hour trip in an hour instead…

I’ll be doing what I normally do and stuff the knob behind that wants to pass at warp factor 7

That is the point I have been banging my head trying to make.ie drivers will be buisness as usual, knobs will see it as a passport to be bigger knobs :bulb:
All this talk of big knobs will be getting some of you excited  so I’ll finish by saying the 50mph idea is a good one as lo g as it is taken in the intended and correct context and not looked upon as a knob’s charter. ■■■■ there I go again.
