Just look out for all the thick [zb] s .that are through the dykes and sat in ditches after being sat on the limiter on unsuitable A roads,…because they can then you will know it has been sanctioned.
i know you like to go on about declining standards and all that, but do you really, hand on heart, believe there’s going to be a noticeable difference of the number in ditches?
Indeed,no matter what the speed limit, sometimes it’s safe on the limiter and other times 30 is too fast.
I know what he means though, some need a speed limit to tell them how fast to drive.

You can not legislate for idiots in any walk of life.
Drivers will continue to drive to conditions 50 on suitable A s, slower on less suitable A roads. Idiots will sit on 50 to the limiter on any A road suitable or otherwise because they are allowed to and that is how they will interprete the new regs ie A road =50+. so yeh I do.

No there won’t be any difference at all. The ones that will be doing 50 already do. The bean counters and paid by the hour brigade will plod on at 40
It would be a travesty of justice if a truck driver is prosecuted now for doing 40-50 on a single carriageway, given that the law will catch up to reality in a matter of weeks. I’m assuming that the authorities are just looking the other way these days and waiting for the rules to change officially.

try it on the A75 tonight and see what happens…guaranteed fact they will be prosecuting from 40 upwards right up till 11-59 the night before it comes in…and then itl be as close to 50 as they can do you for from then on.apart from that, itl be lets see your card purges constantly as itl be harder for them to make their quotas up.itl be up to the boat traffic to make it easier for them and still be sticking to 60-65 …ish…

Cheers mate, with a name like yours that is the opinion I would expect
They seem to be pretty lax about it on the A1 up to Berwick these days, tooling along at 50 a couple of weeks ago I was overtaken by one of their range rovers, when he passed me he just lit up his sign reading 40mph, I slowed to 40 and he took off. Saw him parked up a side road a couple of miles later.

I guarantee it won’t, 23:59 on the day before the change being discussed comes in and 00:01 on the day it happens will be exactly the same on the A75.

Several deaths on the A1 north of Newcastle this year already. The Highways Agency have been granted funds for “Average Speed Cameras” all the way to the border. To be operational by August. Make your own conclusions. Regards Kevmac47.

i get that, but i also think that practically every other driver does too
have you ever heard anyone say, that truly meant it and not trying it on, the reason they crashed was because the corner couldn’t be taken at the speed limit?

yeah people are still going to get it wrong, but i don’t believe for a second that there will be a significant number, if any, crashing due to believing that the limit means they can drive at that speed around any bend and in a conditions on that road.
if i held the same belief as you, i doubt i’d have the nerves to venture anywhere near a road.

Ok fair enough, but I aint bothered with nerves.
We will just have to wait until April to see. I sincerely hope I am wrong, but the specific idiots that I refer to are those that already drive their trucks like cars and have no concept of the damage that can be potentially caused when things go ■■■■ up.

You get it Stevie,I get it as do most others but there are many A roads around here where idiots don’t get it…they keep on at the same speed on a narrow road as on a motorway with the risk of breaking your mirror or putting you in the ditch and they’re long gone.
I’m sure you’ve had your fair share of that in your time Stevie.
I use the A519 between Newport and Stoke a lot and there have been a couple of wagons in the ditch in the last year and the drivers say it pulled them in…I know the firm and because they drove like idiots and met something couldn’t stop so hit the ditch. They have slowed down a lot now though so it has done some goid.
Just for record, the increase to 50 is welcome to me as it’s starting to look otherwise but when you see people saying 40 is fast enough and 50 will be dangerous…well these are the drivers who worry me as it seems they can’t read the road and drive to the road.

Ive not heard about any speed cameras going up but there was another fatality on Friday, around 1630 I think, just nort of Purdy lodge garage. Tipper v car, car driver died at the scene. Road closed both ways for a few hours with a nice diversion into & out of bamburgh.
I wish it had gone up in January!! Got flashed at 51 grr my fault I know but I was in the land of mortgages and houses at the time. Worse part is, I pass the camera regulary on way to a collection and I know it’s there!! Oh well £85 beer tokens and 4 hours of my life pinched off me in march
