froggy:
How true simple econmics,Driver A cost 50% less than driver B,fuel cost less in the country of driver B, than driver, A where does the most profit come from??Me,I want out of the EU and all it`s crap about how long I can work or what I could earn, and will say so.
The way to sort this issue is to give your local MP/MEP a ‘rough-ride’ of questions and then next time around use your vote wisely. It is of benefit to no-one when certain nationalities are highlighted as being to blame (when they’re not, BTW).
I would also be hypocrite to complain about any foreigner working in UK; i’ve worked abroad ‘on-&-off’ for the last 19 years. TBH, I never considered if I was taking a ‘locals’ job - I just did it (and enjoyed doing it!)!!
I also married an EE (Serbian) and she is now working as a teacher here in UK!! She didn’t struggle to get a job; maybe there weren’t enough ‘Brits’ who could be bothered to put in the amount of hard work (university) that she has.
All these replies just go to show that Froggy acted like so many others on here… made a stupid remark when he never really knew what the [zb] he was on about.
mis-spelling it may fool the auto censor, but it won’t fool me ! …Denis F
all i’m saying is it’s not that bad here yet but ireland is over run with them now and it’s getting to the point where local drivers can’t get good jobs because the ee’s are doing them cheaper.i’m not being xenaphobic or racist it’s FACT but the tide maybe turning a certain fridge company has just laid off all 25 they had and are now in the process of buying all new r500 toplines to intise the locals back the reason behind this was the fact the ee’s had 29 accidents in january i just don’t think we see the real probs it causes in this country yet thats all i trying to say.i’m only a driver but if i were an owner driver all i would ask for is a level playing field and nobody can surely argue that we get one
The bear can and will, just hope he takes the blinkers off before it is to late.
Well, I did type a sensible and non abusive reply to this earlier today but god knows where it has gone. I ain’t doing it all again
TheBear:
Wasting my [zb] breath on you
yes mate i think you are.
A few questions…
Are any/many of the foreign registered trucks in Europe being driven by Brits, don’t some British companies register abroad for lower road tax?
Is the issue of EE drivers doing jobs limited to Britain, or is it the same in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria etc, and if not why not? Maybe it’s the fact that they speak some English rather than some Spanish etc??
How many British drivers who want work are actually out of work?
Aren’t EE drivers just after the same things as British drivers?
…and like neil…who is Maria??
Germany has it worse than we do, by the very fact that they are nearer to the supply of EE (mostly Polish). Think how many african immigrants are in France - maybe not affecting the transport industry as much as other sectors.
It’s not only the UK that has these kind of problems; it is, however, only the UK government that makes it such an impossible situation by allowing the foreign companies to run on our roads for free and yet make the price of fuel so expensive for the UK operators.
NOTE; it is not foreign workers that are making the job difficult, it’s foreign companies, and only because the UK government makes it so easy for them to do.
I’ll say again - there’s nothing wrong with foreign workers or even foreign companies; it’s what plenty of Brits have been doing for years, it’s just that now ‘the shoe is on the other foot’ plenty of Brits are moaning about it.
I notice people have mentioned the situation in Ireland and the amount of ‘foreign’ workers, bit ironic really considering that for years Irelands biggest export has been its people. There are more Irish outside Ireland than within its borders and just think where the biggest St Paddy’s day parades will be this week, not in Ireland.
That is the point,no one is saying that the EEs can not and should not make a living, but who picks up the bill,at the moment the UK is suffering due to the fact anyone from the new enlarged may come and haul goods with an advantage of cheap labour and fuel, and so disregard UK transport and it
s plight.
This is going to turn into the same old crapola.
For almost 30 years, I have worked in another country, because I was cheap labour, I earnt more than other people because I was making more money for my various companies.
I was cheaper to load in Germany and deliver to Poland than a German driver. I could load back from Hungary for less money than a Dutch company.
Through globalisation supermarkets and the housewife, everyone wants things at a lower price.
I dont mind being called an economic migrant, and there were a lot of others doing the same job as me
Neo classical theory states that wages and prices will equalise between countries without barriers to movement of capital and labour. All countries in effect wish to trade not their goods but their labour so by creating a free market in the long run everybody wins. Homever this is the short run and those industries where labour can flow easiest will equalise first. ie British drivers will be driven (excuse the pun) out of the industry or will have to take vast pay cuts. The high wages for local deliveries is temporary, soon all wages will fall. Five years ago everybody I knew was in international transport now there is hardly anyone.
The reason nobody is abroad is because the british international companies try to compete on price (therefore cut costs including wages) rather than compete on quality.
A British international cpompany should remain to be the most expensive but should ensure the kit is tidy, the drivers knowladgeable and experienced AND nothing is ever late or damaged.
By raising wages they would be able to attract the best back into the industry and supply the best service. I remember changing tyres in snow at 3am on the Torino Tangenziale because the load had to get there.
Unfortunately most British hauliers are poorly educated and cannot see the market for the competition, their best asset (the drivers), they are pushing away with Mickey Mouse wages.
Within 5 years East European hauliers will be offering better service and will be employing British Drivers on for higher wages than the British companies will pay.
I beg to differ,
I believe that within 5 years, our Eastern “neighbours” will have learned of what is required. ie all of those attributes you already stated, and just get on with doing the job properly. (and by that time be more experienced at it & “sharper” too)
The British (& German, Dutch et al ) will still be doing what they do best, and that is whinging. Instead of preparing, re-grouping (pardon the pun) and focusing on their businesses.
Labour, to flow or not to flow, now that certainly is the question; only time will tell, it will certainly be interesting. (If the EU actually stays intact much longer).
Interesting sure bloody costly as well,Blair gave away best part of 8billion over x years,re the british rebate I was on about 2 years ago. What will happen next UK taxes will have to rise, not the french ones for sure.
