Where are the euro job

Hi
This is my first post so hi to you all
Had my E+C for a little while now and thought I might as well see it I can get a job with it
And I was thinking about Euro tramping work
The type of work where they send you out on the continent for say 4 weeks at time running round like blue flies
The kind of scrupulous family run firms that expect you to go over your hours and don’t mind a drop of the old cherry and a bit of black derv.
Then expect you to be tinkering in the engine bay last thing at night
Yer that kind of thing you know

I mean is there a certain place that they advertise there vacancy or is it all work and mouth
(big Jim told me so in the bar of the truck stop)
Seen the odd Mickey moues drivers mag with owner driver opportunity but are there truckers mags with employed driver vacancy advertised for this kind of work
I live in the North West but closer to Scotland then Manchester

Many Thanks
Batista230

You, my son, will go along way!!

Good wind up!

But in case it’s not those days are long gone, your far too late!

switchlogic:
those days are long gone, your far too late!

So whats happened to it then
is it

  1. There are no Euro hauliers left and therefore no jobs left
    or

  2. Everyone has gone hum hum hum hunky hunky dorry in the new age goody two shoes socialist brittan that we are all supposed to adhere to
CVs with inappropriate whoopee do qualifications
Singing the company song saluting the company cat and hale Hitler to the HSE and VOSA
Wearing a tie no smoking in the cab and bureaucratic bit of s@@t paper like the daily walk round checks
Hello Eddie Stobart (or good buy now that he has popped his clogs)

So your telling me no one is prepared to brake the rules any more because there is no one left!

I think we’ve a new Limeyphil/Tobyabc1234 or whatever it is.

But to answer your question, very few UK companies still go over the water, and with those that do it’s often dead mans shoes to get on continent.

So you could go Irish, but then jobs over there are fairly scarce, and the vast majority run legal now. It’s just too expensive not to now.

 It’s probably option 2, but you can thank your kind of driver for that!

Some companies do more overseas than UK!

I met this russian in a service station hear in the uk
He was driving for an paddy firm
They pay him 650 euros per week
he got fined 200 quid by VOSA for going over his hours and was clamped by VOSA until he served his weekly rest
He was going from birkinhead to france
I know this coz birkinhead is where he got his gange from
He told me all the tricks of the trade on what you can put in your tank and how to hide it
Wont go into more detail on a public forum
He is maried to an eastern europen wife; that is how he got his licnece I think
He told me he lives in russia and has not been home for 3 month

So my question is how did he get a job with an irish firm when hes not even irish

Well I’m a Brit working for an Irish firm, how did I get a job?

Well until recently I’d say over 95% of Irish trucks were not driven by Irishmen.

switchlogic:

Why?
why dont they employ there own people
How did you hear of the job vacency

Do you park the truck up at the depot in Ireland or somewhere near your home when your on your 4 weekly rest period

I worked for a notorious Irish firm many moons ago with switchlogics dad and looking back now the things we did were dreadful, we were fined or parked up regularly.
most irish firms don’t do it any more simply because they can’t afford to get caught.
the driver you met was he actually russian? or maybe just east european? don’t see how russians can work in the EU.
what’s a 4 weekly rest period? never heard of that before?

Was switchlogics the name of the employer you used to work for
Did you have to go to ireland for the interview or where you living in ireland at the time
Do VOSA target irish trucks

Ow he was defently russian
people called him polish and he got rely pized off about it (like calling a scotsman english)

You know where you go out and do 4 weeks driving and then come home for a week

So what are you doing now removals or something like that for the english tourests

No I’m switchlogic, Nolan Transport was the company. I worked there too.

You just ring people up. In those days there was no such thing as an interview, given the job over the phone and either pick up a truck that’s been dumped in the UK or get lift over.

Not many would work with a week off after 4 weeks. You get your weekly rest and that’s that.

There’s an Irish firm looking for a couple of directors at the moment, you could ring them up :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

ow welsh lad worked with you as well did he and now you drive for vigina

Its been a while now since I did my theory test
But on taco rules and regs
Was it not different weekly rest periods for those that work away from there home
Seen some of the other posting on this forum in the euro section
things like
they expect you to go out there for 2 or 4 weeks

So why dont they employ Irish local lads then
So where do you live

Batista230:

Switch, work for ■■■■■■     No chance of that :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

Not since April 2007, now it’s the same regardless of home or away.

never had an interview, rang up and spoke to seamus who offered me a job based on my experience at the time and yes VOSA do seem to concentrate on certain companies

most people do a trip then have time off, some do longer stints but not with a week off unless they’ve got a really good boss and there are some that live in their trucks.
as for me i work for a spanish transport company doing steel out of algeciras and usually machinery or something equally obtuse back to andalucia, last week my load from holland was part of a new water slide for aquopolis in sevilla.
removals is too much like hard work especially as tourists are usually back and fore every week or two

the [zb] [zb]
if I ever get my hand on a machine gun i will go into the gallay of the houes of commons and start shooting ever polition dead shouting you [zb] [zb] and then turn the gun on my self

But there is nothing to stop you driving on your day off and hiding the taco of the previus week for one of those days under your seat and then hiding your days off tacos under the seat for the rest of the week

there is, its called the digitacho. also the fines in europe are huge if you get caught with either type of tacho and running bent. there’s even the chance of prison nowadays
