When will normality resume

well over here in France, …

Normality has been put on hold until the 11th May

So total lock down till then !

35 deaths last month to 10,000 + this month says no chance. They have to bet on that not being a representative exponential increase and thereby not turning into 3 million + by the end of June and game over by Autumn if they lift it.Still game over by Christmas either way ‘if’ that rate is a guide and even if they can halve it with the lock down. That’s without the hospitals being clogged with cases and critical.
10’s of thousands of deaths and 100’s of thousands of cases for 100’s of ‘recoveries’ is the worst nightmare situation.Basically we’re zb’d unless proven otherwise.

I’m with dd999. What part of Dozy asking about a return to normal isn’t computing  :unamused:

Him being on premod and spending Friday night in a lay by missing steak dinner

IMO There’s an element of trolling in Dozy’s posts, but there’s still an element of novelty in his posts to provide some entertainment

does anyone else notice the irony with the o/p?? :unamused:

Second post.

But your borders are intact until the 30th October so I have read…

has anyone actually seen the most recent decisions. not being sarcastic genuinely asking. apparently there was a cobra meeting on thurs last week to discuss what to do. things like more police powers etc were supposed to come out of it. but so far I have been unable to ascertain anything.

Normality won’t resume, the way of life we have known up till now will never be the same again when this is over.

Quite apart from the economy decimated, do you think the state hasn’t noted how easy it has been to quell almost all people into a state of citizen approved house arrest by promoting hysterical fear 24/7 va the idiot programming media box in the corner.
Never before has an innocent British public been under mass house arrest, including parliament itself for crying out loud who surrendered their freedom without a wimper, this is the work of a totalitarian state, where this could go from here is anyone’s guess.

“Hysterical fear”?
There is some in certain sections, true. But being afraid of a danger is perfectly rational. Pretending COVID 19 is merely a cold is as bad as saying it’s the Black Death.
Trying to control it will cost our economy, tis also true. Letting this virus free to kill many is not an option without economic cost either. Widespread illness and social disruption through excess deaths cost money too.
I’m ok with my pension being a bit smaller if fewer people die prematurely.

Very nice for you and me that is, if our pensions are a bit smaller, presumably you like me are in a job that’s literally bomb proof and personally unaffected by any of this.

However there’s others sitting not so pretty and the lives of millions will never be the same again, from businesses built up over lifetimes lost never to re-open, to those who have worked in such places loyally to be out of work, those who’s finances will never recover leading to relationships being destroyed and possibly more lives lost as the result of economic ruin than this particular virus could destroy.

Would you be quite so happy if there was grave possibility of your house being re-possessed, finding yourself with debts you have no hope of ever repaying, no job to go to and maybe years before you find another as good as you had, and the possibility that your relationship could disappear around the U bend.
The economy won’t restart the day its stopped as if some demi-god had stopped time for a laugh then got bored and buggered off elsewhere, we are about to enter a recession to make 2008 and the lack of austerity since look like a mere blip, with the country already £2000billion in govt debt, and incalcuble personal debts already.

Yes you and i might be sitting pretty, we ain’t the ones about to pay the true cost of this overreaction.

Was normal really working?,
I can also comment from a position of relative strength as I have no debts, no accident you understand, I have sacrificed to pay off my mortgage and not carry any consumer loans.
I can keep my head above water longer than most, but it still has devalued my previous years of hard graft and sacrifice.

So, was normal working?
Whilst most of us have been ever efficent, more productive just keeping our heads above water, the people at the top have been evermore selfish and wasteful.
I know there is little more than the mass control experiment that is covid19 going on in the media right now, but some are still desperately trying to stay relevant so we should get behind the B list celebrity who married a prince and help out with her plight.
What about the stars who kick around a bag of wind every week and earn more in a week than I do in a decade, spare a thought for them as they wont be able to get this season’s fully loaded Bentley so they understand what you are going through.

Normal can ■■■■ my ■■■■. Normal needs to be ripped up and something more equal needs to be developed. Communist ideology didn’t work, capitalism came close but has equally been corrupted so time for something new.

This is our chance at real change.

Seems to me the Government (although scrabbling in the dark) are doing what they can to protect the less well off. The idea of furloughs, altbough less than perfect, seems a good idea. That will cost me, although I don’t benefit from it.
Cutting costs by allowing firms to close now may benefit my future tax bills.
This virus is going to cost is all a lot. On balance I reckon we’re going the right way.
To allow more to die now, so we are better off later I reject as a policy. There is a valid argument that a poorer future society will be worse for the health of all. But here I’m with Andie: a poorer but more equitable future society needn’t be like that. If we as a country are poorer later, but our poorest aren’t left to suffer, then fine.
Trying to prevent too much financial damage? Fine.
Trying to keep the unjust present hierarchy? No.

some interesting points…Normal…is not a word we can use anymore…high streets will be thread bare, even charity shops are going into liquidation…many pubs will not resume trading same as restaurants…many will not apply for loans and keep them in debt for longer in the hope custom will come back. This whole crisis is in chaos as even consumers have suffered huge losses too…they have to catch up with their debts, that they couldnt pay because of the reduction in wages. Pubs are now thinking of dumping huge amounts of beer they paid for but will not keep, they can claim the vat back if they can prove it has been dumped, via photographic evidence.
The lockdown has been extended by 3 weeks, and i believe after this time restrictions wont be lifted completely…they talk of office workers going back from home working…but using masks, they talk of street walkers having to wear a mask…parks will still be closed, large gatherings will still be banned ( that means no restaurants or pubs ) or even football, concerts etc… it wont be back to normal as we know it…and i think around may or even june before we can resume our lives…of course if your like me and thinking of holidays…well that depends on other countries, whether their airports/roads/borders etc are open as well, and thats a big IF.
But i wish everyone well, safety, and good health.

Normality or even close to it is a long way off, if there is no vaccine then there won’t be any big gatherings anywhere, it’s going to be a long year with no holidays not been able to travel
