Someone remind me when is the big day ?. How much affect do we all think it’s going to have ?.

Already several threads on this topic, no need to start another one.

  1. 9th September 2014.

  2. I suspect very little will change.

On the morn of the new dawn thou shall be greeted
by prostrated office underlings and glide to your vehicle
on a path of scattered rose petals.

Or maybe not. :grimacing:

Wouldn’t it be funny if, on Wednesday 10th of September, the roads are dead quiet with no Lorry’s on them !

Yep I wont disagree with you there.
They’ve taken 10 rest days a year off us by changing the rota.
Every week they ask me if I want overtime as they struggle to get holidays and sickness covered - even with agency drivers they are slowly struggling. and I decline …

At the moment I have things to do on my rest days especially with the nice weather … :grimacing:

and there’s no incentive to work the days over the weekend as we already work most weekends.

well that narrows it down to Wales, Ireland, Scotland and basically any town in England

We have THE date for OUR strike! 10- 09- 2014 :sunglasses: grow some lads

I may make a point of being unavailable on 9th & 10th :smiling_imp:

If those of us who are in a position to do so took those days off it might just focus a few boss’s/TM’s minds.

By which point all full timers will have their 35 hours credit - one way or another.

Agencies will suddenly find numerous drivers either leaving for other agencies offering “free training” (a bit late!) or they’ll get booted off the honest agency’s books, because they’re no longer fit to drive without the blue card.
The ensuing shortage of agency drivers will mean some agencies possibly going to the wall, because they won’t be able to keep up with market forces that will sharply drive up “the going rate” at this point. If there’s no drivers, and you can’t poach someone elses - what do you do? - Lie? Works for shift one, but what then?

I reckon one agency’s sales pitch to a client yard might be “We have all our drivers already through DCPC, but we charge £5ph more than everyone else - interested?” at which point yard guvnor says “Nope”, and then finds he can’t get a driver for love nor money the following week, because all the ones promising “cheaper talent” just don’t have enough blue-card sporting drivers on their books anymore…

Do you think a yard is going to give the expensive agency the heave-ho before the one who keeps providing “no show” drivers for a few weeks in a row?
How much crap doya think the average Transport manager will put up with, when it’s their job to “get the job done” rather than “save the firm money in doing it”… These firms can afford to pay. Enough of the “Time’s are 'ard, cos fuel is so dear…” That argument is well stale by this point… Fuel is down 10% in the last week, and we’re not seeing that passed on much either are we? :imp:

It’s my birthday that week, so I wasn’t looking at working it anyways… :grimacing:

I must say it would be interesting to see the outcome

LOL.

When officially can you start the next 35 hours cpc training

and if I do the full 35 hours say in October in 1 hit
how many years will that be valid for.

Assuming you got the first card through periodic training prior to the deadline, 35 hours of training taken immediately after the deadline would take you through the next five years after the expiry of your current card.

Basically you have to do your training in the life of your current card to get the next one.

But you may find it difficult to get 35 hours of training this Autumn…there is going to be a bit of an overhang of people who ignored it or didn’t do it for one reason or another frantically getting the hours in to try to keep their jobs.
