When is the big day ?. CPC

I even counted on my fingers!

GasGas:
Assuming you got the first card through periodic training prior to the deadline, 35 hours of training taken immediately after the deadline would take you through the next five years after the expiry of your current card.

Basically you have to do your training in the life of your current card to get the next one.

But you may find it difficult to get 35 hours of training this Autumn…there is going to be a bit of an overhang of people who ignored it or didn’t do it for one reason or another frantically getting the hours in to try to keep their jobs.

Current cpc card expires on 9.9.2019

So if I finished 35 hours say on 21.09.2014

I should be able to drive till 9.9.2024

I need cpc God’s help here.

Someone remind me when is the big day ?. How much affect do we all think it’s going to have ?.

  1. 9th September 2014.
By which point all full timers will have their 35 hours credit - one way or another.

  2. I suspect very little will change.

Agencies will suddenly find numerous drivers either leaving for other agencies offering “free training” (a bit late!) or they’ll get booted off the honest agency’s books, because they’re no longer fit to drive without the blue card.
The ensuing shortage of agency drivers will mean some agencies possibly going to the wall, because they won’t be able to keep up with market forces that will sharply drive up “the going rate” at this point. If there’s no drivers, and you can’t poach someone elses - what do you do? - Lie? Works for shift one, but what then?

I reckon one agency’s sales pitch to a client yard might be “We have all our drivers already through DCPC, but we charge £5ph more than everyone else - interested?” at which point yard guvnor says “Nope”, and then finds he can’t get a driver for love nor money the following week, because all the ones promising “cheaper talent” just don’t have enough blue-card sporting drivers on their books anymore…

Do you think a yard is going to give the expensive agency the heave-ho before the one who keeps providing “no show” drivers for a few weeks in a row?
How much crap doya think the average Transport manager will put up with, when it’s their job to “get the job done” rather than “save the firm money in doing it”… These firms can afford to pay. Enough of the “Time’s are 'ard, cos fuel is so dear…” That argument is well stale by this point… Fuel is down 10% in the last week, and we’re not seeing that passed on much either are we? :imp:

I do agency work, and i have to say they were very good. Paid me 5 days pay and we did the course at the customers premises with there staff and they provided the instructor. Was all a load of ■■■■■■■■ of course, and i spend most of the time on my iPad.

I reckon there is still about 20% of the regular agency blokes who haven’t done it, which strikes me as a bit stupid as all we had to do was sign a bit of paper to say we would pay them if we didn’t work for them in future. Don’t think they would have much success in getting there money even if you didn’t.

Won’t make the slightest difference to me. But I do hope that it will make difference for anyone on NMW on general haulage.

Sure there is bound to be a week of super quick DVSA stops at the local wasps’ nest. “Hello drive, do you have your little blue card?”

“Yes” - on you go.
“No” - bend over, grab your ankles, and contribute to the Christmas Dooooooo.

We’re told to carry it at all times - it’s even more important than the driving licence and digicard apparently… :open_mouth:

Well I for one will Deffo be off as its a day I will remember as the 10th. Sept. is my Birthday !! lol .

All of my documents live in the wagon with me. Better not ever be burning at the side of the road. I dont think I could face the paperwork :frowning:

absolutely nothing is going to happen in September apart from it being a little cooler and vosa will be out in force to make sure everyone is carrying their little card, otherwise hand you a nice piece of paper as a contribution towards the national debt  wages wont go up, there will be no national shortage of drivers, and things will be exactly the same as they have been for the past 5 years + drivers will still be moaning about the low wage, how theyre treated like ■■■■ etc etc etc etc etc we all know this DCPC was a complete waste of our time,. and money in some instances, and it will get worse. I do see a lot of changes to this industry as i look into my crystal ball, drivers will be expected to fly their long distance cargo and return for their next one within 2 hours ( scotland for eg ) and will have no problems with immigration as an agreement would have been reached once the Scots abandon ship. International work wont exist as it will go via high speed train, trailers as well, and the host country will tip and load it. Nigel Farage will lead the new government and all foreigners currently in the uk will have to leave, giving us our country back without force, and saving millions enabling the government to invest in new infrastructure, companies, and nuclear bombs. Somewhere along the way they should have enough in the pot to repair the roads and repatriate the royal family to their native Greece which should be on its feet by then.

I don’t know if this is true or not. I heard that some highway agency traffic officers in the Midlands are at this moment being trained by the North Wales police to stop vehicles on behalf of VOSA. This is being done as part of a pilot scheme and they are due to start putting their new stopping skills into practice in September. If this is true, is it a coincidence that they are starting this pilot scheme in September?

Have to say the agency I drive through is remarkably relaxed about things, 2 of his drivers have left the industry already and 4 will hang up the keys in Sept, at the moment he’s got more shifts at one customer that he can’t fill, last of our weekly chats ended “…so let me know any days you’re available as there’s work in there all the time”.
