Whats your search procedure?

I have been doing to a place where they like me to press a button and if it goes red they insist they wave a metal detector over me. And also that they route through my bag. They never do this on the way in… So how they would know if I took something or brought it with me I don’t understand.

I’m obviously concerned that they could be planting drugs, weapons or other illegal stuff in my property. Or indeed could be interested in stealing from me. Whilst one is taking my attention with his detector wand the other could be having my satnav away.

So I am considering writing up a little document for the security to sign. And insisting they turn out their pocket and allow me to pat them down to check for contraband before they go near my bag and after they have finished. I want to write a document so that they understand that this is because of genuine concerns and not because I’m being difficult. I wondered if anyone else had anything similar?

**And yeah I don’t wanna go there anymore and it will be a lot of fun to wind them up. I think it would be a fitting way to play them at their own game.

As Michael Winner used to say “Calm down dear”.

These guys are doing their job like you I presume, are doing yours. The lucky dip is not uncommon these days and so what if it goes red and they say can I look in your cab? You go with them to the cab or in your case oversee them having a root around in your bag. No big deal. Unless you’ve got illegal substances in there or a ■■■ toy (which would raise a laugh) who they hell is gonna be bothered so long as in addition you are not trying to filch stock out of where you are delivering. (I trust it is not to Ann Summer). :grimacing:

Sand - my partner works in an environment where she has access to enough drugs to kill all of trucknet or get them high depending if she was planning on having a party, or commit mass murder. She is not treated like a common criminal and doesn’t have her property searched when she leaves work. And if they did start doing that there would be an outroar.

You may not object to people going through your stuff and invading your private property. But I do. I’ve decided I won’t be doing many more shifts there so fancy making a bit of a point.

Treat others as you wish to be treated… I’m a fairly courteous driver. I don’t react angrily to others mistakes. I flash in everyone. I slow down if I can to let cars in off a slip road. I try and be the truck driver I’d want to encounter in my car. If the security guards have the same philosophy they will have no problem being inspected in exactly the same way they do to others.

No but my Mrs could translate it into Welsh for me.

Now this is what it has come to drivers letting people who act like hilters search them and letting them rub there hands all over them
So they search them going in then take the keys off them and won’t let them back to truck to sit in or sleep then they tell them 4 hours waiting driver sit on that plastic chair talk about getting humiliated and being treated like trailer trash they will search them on the way out as well its really amazing how people can be trained to do that kind of stuff and then the brains come up with aint i getting paid for it working by the hour boss

Why would they want to plant anything on you?

Any time ive got the red light they give me a sheet of paper that I sign to say ive been searched. Theyve never actually searched me, or the cab.

It used to amuse and irritate me both when I delivered to Landrover at Solihull. I worked for Palletforce, so only two or three of the pallets in my truck would be for them. This meant that I might still have half a load (maybe 8 or 10 pallets) on the way out.

“What’s that in there driver?” I would get when I opened the back doors.
“More deliveries,” I would reply.
“Oh - Okay” the guy would say, and on I would go.

The point is that the ‘inspection’ was presumably to stop me taking parts out of the factory that I didn’t have paperwork for (and sometimes I would have some parts being returned). If I had been in collusion with someone in the factory, all we would have had to do was to put the booty in some boxes on a pallet and voila - Robert’s your mother’s brother.

When I pointed out the idiocy - “We have to go through the motions,” he said and jerked a thumb at the eye in the sky

Many, many years ago, our in house drivers delivered parts to various BMC (and then British Leyland) factories. I heard from reliable sources that one could place ‘orders’ with some of our drivers for such things as a Triumph front wing, or Austin dynamo and this could be had for a nominal sum after the next trip. A case of “it fell onto the back of a lorry”.

I was gobsmacked when they asked to search the cab when leaving a B & Q RDC. Who wants to nick any of their crap?

Why shouldn’t these places try and protect there stock? There was obviously a problem of stuff being stolen for them to spend money on preventative measures.

Maybe were a t-shirt with IM NOT A THIEF on the front so they know they don’t have to search you.

If I go into a pub or shop and they scan my money for counterfeit notes, I do the same to my change, refusing torn or dog eared notes.

Anything to wind them up [emoji23]

They don’t get to search me or my truck. Simple.

They have no power to, unless you give them it, and you are under no obligation to consent to any searches. The police can’t search you without reasonable suspicion, security mouth breathers certainly can’t.

If they have genuine reason to believe I have stolen something they can call the police.

Hi Bud. I’ve never had a problem with them to be honest. The key thing is to make sure you observe what they are doing. I have a bit of a joke with them sometimes, nothing heavy 'cos I might not have met them before but I’ve always found them ok.

Most of them are bored out of their skull. Encountered them at DHL and Gist sites mainly.

Good luck with that. if the serial number is readable and the note is intact it’s legal tender. A long as it’s not a fake of course.

I had it all the time when I worked in a shop. People would refuse change because the note was tatty. I’d just put it back in the till and shout next. They’d soon find a tatty note was better than no note.

All for them protecting their stock. I don’t invite people into my home I don’t trust. And then I don’t feel the need to search everyone. Perhaps if they bothered to recruit properly and took care of the people they employed they would encounter less tea leaves.

What’s more… I drive a bloody great truck out of the gates. If I wanted to rob them I’d simply pull over for a break and pass over anything I want. I don’t need to put it in my bag!

The policy is there to degrade and keep you in your place. No other reason.

Never ever ever ever deliver to Sellafield, if you do, take your document and let us know how you get on. :open_mouth:

Never had an issue tbh myself, press button most of the time it goes green and goodbye.

As said if it goes red, a quick look in the cab and open back and your away. More often than not they don’t even bother to check and if they do it’s a quick glance inside at most.

Never been asked to be patted down and would not consent to it either.

Some places will be different especially for high-value goods.

Most times it’s no problem, one site you don’t want to go to is Johnson Matthey, holy ■■■■ they made me take off all metal stuff (wallet, keys, watch, belt etc) and put it through a scanner, meanwhile I went through a metal detector, questioned me and they scrutinised the stuff that was scanned, they were very interested in my watch for some reason. Then followed me out to the cab and did a thorough search through all my lockers and bags. I was not impressed and if I ever end up there again it’ll be too soon. Before anyone’s wondering, I didn’t do anything suspicious, this was routine… It was ADR stuff I delivered and personally I couldn’t give a ■■■■ what they do there.
