Whats your best job ever!

Blow

That is all

I love the old truck pics …

Worked for Calor gas for 15 years the first 10 were great then they just squeezed as much as they could out of you and made the job crap…I left there to move to the best job I ever had …

Film technician for deluxe film labs , used to be rank films . I worked in the dark as a printer with original negs, James Bond was just one of the films we worked on, I worked there for 5 years and got made redundant last September so returned to truck driving …

Driving a fire truck for 20 odd years … best fun you could ever have with your clothes on imho

BEST - YEARSLEY GROUP
I was given a new Scania 94D rigid after three weeks and went onto more money than working for British Bakeries where they had old dodgy Volvo FL6 and Leyland Freighter’s. Could not believe that I was trusted to go to places that were more than two hours away!
WORST - ROADWAYS, TRAFFORD PARK
When they had a silly bonus scheme in place.

DTS Logistics in Enfield from 2000-2005 when the boss sold it on to Clipper! Mr Daly was a great gaffer, put me through my Class 2 in 2003 after doing multidrop ladies clothing stores in Central London for 3 years in a Luton van! Don’t think I’ll ever find a company as good as that and it wasn’t a small company either! Great bunch of workmates. Only one or two divs!! :sunglasses:

Not too shabby in the early to mid nineties either!

Did a lot of agency work in there, before i got my HGV, on the luton’s and 7.5 tonners…still remember the collections from the old sweat shops round the east end…nothing ever ready when you got there…but the turks looked after you…always decent coffee and 20 Rothmans while you waited.

Never forget getting in to a bit of a disagreement with a couple of greeks and an iron bar down Finsbury Park way…the turkish lads from the factory came steaming out…thought there was going to be a blood bath!

Nothing like handballing hanging garments…god i hated winter coats!

 We were getting cash for waiting for late loads upto 2004 from the sweatshops!! I loved Christmas for the booze and chocolate from customers! Transport always thought they got the cream of the gifts you see!!! As for winter coats! Don’t know if I could do them anymore!

used to be on a cushy little number when i first started on rigids.
we used to deliver magazines from a print finnishers in warrington…there would be about 6 of us living in their yard from monday night until thursday morning.
if you got the right runs  most of the time was spent chatting and drinking tea…and then there was the pallets  :grimacing:

I enjoyed my time at Roadways tbh, transport manager was a ■■■■, and it was a 0 hour contract with a holiday year running jan - december, otherwise I’d probably still be there (unless I got sacked… )

Not mars jones awfull company run by a bunch of welsh farmers sheep sh@#$ rs and I am welsh worked for them not in any league but the pretenders league.they have loads or part time drivers on there books so they hold you ransom.
People coming and going like a revolving doors there they got rid of one driver for not turning his ignition off because he was cooking and needed the windows to operate so he turned the engine off but left the ignition on but they couldnt be sure when he stoped working as they check your hours on the tracker and pay right up to the time the wheels stopped turning .a lot of there drivers are novices so they have to start somewhere just a shame they started there.and as for the transport office they are from hell havent got a clue they will have you up and down the same road twice a day to collect and deliver then be chasing you with the famous where are you .
Mars jones stay away

Not mars jones

Worked for BP on the tankers from 1990 til 2008, that was the best paying job I’v had, but since taking redundancy 5 yrs ago, I’v been working out of a local sawmill monday to friday running from Grangemouth to Inverness & Aberdeen mainly. Has to be the best job workwise!

Dukes Transport Portadown, 1980 - 1999 3 ToD’s for them  they were the best payer’s, best kit and they actually treated you ok.
Worked out of all the depot’s they had and I loved it, shame they went down they were great to work for especially if your face fitted which mine did

Regards
Dave Penn;

Hey Dave, i done a bit for them too out of their Crick depot. They had a big portacabin there which was up on stilts or whatever with a staircase going up to it and that was for the guys who had trunked from Ireland to go and sleep in whilst someone like me took their motor out for the day on deliveries. A lot of the time you just got a Dukes motor, which was good enough, sometimes you got a subbys motor to use !! Big Eminox stack, no limiter, cab full of plugs and wires, happy days !!! They’d be getting their head down about 8 am and saying make sure you’re back about 3pm, not sure how their hours worked :grimacing: BUt they did have boats to catch.

I worked outta Crick in 2006…No Portacabin. I hated it.

Is it possible to have the best job and the worst job I’ve worked for the same company? Back in 2005-2009 I drove for Thumbs Up (Bury) ltd. whilst having very nice, new units changed every 3 years. Mostly Mercedes actros mega spaces or Daf 105 super spaces, they only pull 3-5 tonne max, you can park where you want, because they won’t pay expenses. Their problem is “The Management” what should be a great firm as its family run its “power gone to their heads” outfit. It really is spoiled. In my opinion it could be a top 5 company to work for in the uk but as it is I’d rate it a 2 out of 10.

I had a great job work wise.(I won’t name names) I blew it by being a ■■■■, but they were not the best management team I had ever worked with.

Oh , nearly forgot…best job ever…got to be Intermol Mollasses out of Liverpool, Avonmouth and Felixstowe.

No way . Did you need special treatment that they didn’t provide? or has this been an ongoing problem for you ?

Ha ha…I had issues. Don’t worry your head Mike.
