Thanks mate

However, get in with a firm and it can be good.

I did it for a building firm and was hourly paid, and they really looked after us, times were comfortable, plenty of breaks, fitter came out to fix stuff if it broke - EVEN the easy sheet.

Just carry spare shoes in your car boot and don’t park in the yard and you’ll be fine.

I see you’ve found our old training video!

i sometimes cover our tipper drivers when there off, auto sheet, auto tailgate, onboard weigher, you never leave the cab, good when the tipping areas are like a swamp, but if your doing the same short run all day can be very boring

It’s like any type of transport job…decent company & conditions = decent job!
I’m fortunate, employer is good, tackle is good, wage is good. Hours can be long and you have to have your wits about you and it’s not everyone’s cup of tea but there are plenty worse driving jobs out there

My job’s varied, Can be like this; Monday=sand & shingle to a concrete plant. Tuesday= general site deliveries. Wednesday= Long distance (Kent/Surrey from Oxford to someone with more money than sense tarting up their driveway). Thursday=Muckaway (6 wheelers tend to do the smaller sites ie house extensions which load you with a Dinky toy sized digger so take a big flask or a good ■■■■ mag… Friday=Mixture of above. Saturday= Yeah, right!

My job on tippers is quite easy and we get about a fair bit,
paid by he hour …boss doesnt expect you to load right up to max(anything over 23t payload is OK max allowed 28.5t ish depending on truck / trailer)
No-one in the office pushing you for the extra load…hours 100% legal…sometimes even parking up 20 mins from depot!

This week so far…
Monday… load animal feed to Bleddfa (mid wales)reload Oats from same farm back to Crewe tip and back to yard (also Crewe).total 12hr day

Today(tues)… Oat By product(goes into animal feed) to Islip near Kettering…run empty to Wakefield for load of Biscuit meal (also for animal feed)…tip Aston near Nantwich…reload in same mill for tomorrow and return to yard…total 15hr day.

Tomorrow(Wed)…tip Hereford and reload Oats from Bridgenorth for Crewe, may run out towards somewhere for Thurs later depends on load and hours.

Ive got a few pics on my computer I’ll take a few more and try to put a diary of sorts up within the next few days.

I used to drive bulkers, I now trolley, to go from trollying to tipppers would be completely insane. Unless you are doing agency work stick with it, believe me it,s a different world, one which you probably won’t
Like. Having said that some drivers love it, try and get some casual work before you take the plunge. Don’t purchase the wife beater vest and the rigger boots until you are sure

I quite like tipper work ,done it on agency.A lot depends on what branch of the trade you intend doing. There are a lot of tippers standing idle in my neck of the woods though.

In my opinion, tipper driving’s easier and less stressfull if you work for a firm with their own quarries; The subbies they use tend to rush about more due to the haulage rates paid, and they’re more likely to run overweight more times than under, whereas (like me) I don’t care if I get on the bridge and I’m a ton light-makes no difference to my wages. I can’t see what so many people find stressfull about it…

I"m on bulk tipper work it is one off the best jobs i have done.I am paid by the hour absolutley no pressure no chasing with my unit i also have a truck mounted blower so i have alot variety blowing wheat into silos including Crewe lol Aswell as farm collections and deliveries.
