I"m on bulk tipper work it is one off the best jobs i have done.I am paid by the hour absolutley no pressure no chasing with my unit i also have a truck mounted blower so i have alot variety blowing wheat into silos including Crewe lol Aswell as farm collections and deliveries.
Are the rats still in the layby across from your place bigun, parked there one night…walked to the chippy in the village(didnt realise how far it was knackered when i got back) and returned to find several large well fed rats playing around the truck. Didnt get out again!
I love my job, best job I’ve ever had. I’m a bulk driver, always will be. The hardest and possibly most rewarding part is getting into/out of a farm most drivers would run from very quickly. But beware bulkers are the scum beneath the bottom of the pond. Dont be afraid to ask questions, the more you ask the more you’ll learn.
You may think you can reverse now, but you wait till your at a farm you have to blind side reverse into off a main road, with pretty gardens in front of you, and the owners watching just in case you clip the curb, and brick walls either side of the drive you trying to reverse into. It’s a job that will make you sweat, but stick at it long enough, and you’ll be laughing. A tip i was given when i first started was “don’t look a ■■■■ take a shunt” and also “if you have to use a shovel you’ve ■■■■■■ up” the later is not really that true, it’s bloody useful when bagging sand or sugar pulp sticks.
Also don’t be afraid to tell a farmer your not tipping there, if you feel unsafe it probably is. Also don’t be afraid to put your foot down and get a jog on, But at the same time be very patient Mill and weigh bridge staff tend to leave you hangin if your on their case.
tipping work is great if your on grain plenty off variety and pays better then alot off work, the coal and stone lads aren’t on as much and if you get bored on same runs it wont be for you.

What he said, plus…
Never refuse a brew on a farm (you wont get asked next time)
If you stroke the freindly dog you’ll either get bitten or jumped up at resulting in mud or worse all over your clothes, or you might get humped
Never throw the stick / stone / burst football / dead rabbit that the dog brings you…(They just keep coming back for more !)
Always pretend you’d forgotten about the mug when the farmer asks for it back.(Ive got 3 or 4 freebies now )
Dont bother asking if they want to get rid off the classic 50 year old plece of scrap that used to be a car they’ll inevitably either be “doing it up” or want several 100 quid coz its a classic.
I once asked about an old butchers bike, was told it’ll probably be in the skip next week, when i asked if I could have it I was told yeah its gotta be worth at least £50. It was still there 2 years later.
Always remember that farmers are very poor, even the ones with 6 brand new tractors / combines / range rovers etc.
Hiya …have a go i,ve done stacks.I had one job run from Stoke to sheffield and tip. pop into scrapyard and do 2 locals
into steelworks pop back to scrapyard and load for bangor. stop off at home start next day at 4am tip bangor(no queue
infact no paperwork) just tip and clear off. into Chester load bails of scrap for sheffield stop off at home go to sheffield
next day and repete. 5 round trips every 2 weeks. That lasted 3 yearseasy peasy.
you,ll not sit waiting to tip at some crap tesco for hours then again. you,ll not stop for a pee some days on differant jobs.
Have a go then you,ve done it.You,ll most likley to have plenty of early starts thats tipping work.

Blenheim Palace, RAF Brize Norton (good fun parked on a taxiway with a VC10 infront of you that’s just got clearance for take off and the Vulcan’s there at the moment) The Yank spying place at Croughton beside A43, Steam railways, celebs houses (Been informed Kate Winslet’s sound-bits of her looked good in “The Reader”
