The whole scenario would be alien to us and not something any driver i know could adhere to . Being given start times is treating drivers like kids. Hand out the paperwork with delivery slot times and let them decide how long its going to take to get there. Seems it would be akin to working in a zbing creche…
I agree , to get to work and find out you’ve been told to start at midnight for a 13.00 asda Grangemouth beggars belief , 4/5 am or somewhere round there you’d of still done it comfortably , if they’d of just said you’ve a 13.00 booking , just get there I could of sorted a sensible start time for myself
any way got a 15 min window to use toilet so can’t hang about , told planner 3 sheets of bog papers not enough last week but what do I get ,3
the stobart depot i used to work for any start time between 12 noon and midnight was paid as night rate…any start between midnight and 12 noon was day rate…the whole shift.i started at 1300 and was on night rate all shift.
are they making sure you get paid day rate?

right , well there saying that the system doesn’t recognise 00.00 so I have to put 00.01 as start time ,15.01 as finish time , but looking at what your saying ( been on 3/4/5 etc for years so lost track of this ) by putting down 00.01 that classes me as a day shift driver , why am I not surprised
zb amazing , you classed as nights starting 13.00 but days if you start midnight , bloody joke

It’s all part of these big firm’ s driver lobotomy process.
They want and demand subservient yes men type robots, who never use initiative, need to be told when and where to wipe their own arses, and are spoon fed instrutions every half hour over the phone by some absolute d/head in an office who speaks to them like you would a dog.
After a few weeks of the training process at their pretentiously named ‘‘Academy’’ , they are ready.
So off they go, sat bolt upright in their truck seat, wearing their hi viz and earpiece, hands at 10 to 2 with nose up to windscreen following their 300 quid sat navs.
When their phone rings you can hear them saying words like ‘‘Yes,… how high,… and three bags full’’…

I have to disagree. If it all goes ■■■■ up and the delivery is late then the driver is only acting upon company instructions. If he chooses the start time and the booking slot is missed for whatever reason then the company will claim that his decision was wrong.
I thought Dozy lived and worked from somewhere near Goole, that’s a fair old trot empty in the wrong direction to pick up the load.

+1…
I been offered start times of 00.15 or 00.30 hours. It’s night work for day rates.

It maybe to do with I said last week if I start at midnight I should be paid night money not from midnight - 6 am , but I can’t get hold of anyone to ask , or am I putting 2 +2 = 5 and its to do with night working / 24 hr clock or something , normally says start at midnight
Hope you told him you’d be in @ 03:21,11 hours after he had interrupted your rest period which meant you had to re start it.

Just what I was thinking, play them at their own game and use the rules to YOUR advantage … but I bet he sure as hell didn’t.

when I used to work nights, I used to get 00.01 start time, its just standard practice
I did these midnight start times years ago and I can’t remember anything different to start midnight , last 2 weeks on midnight starts have been start midnight , it’s only changed to 00.01 / 00.001 since I said I think I should be paid night money all shift for starting at midnight , not midnight to 6 am , I’m not saying you’ve not been told to start 00.01 , but it’s not something I’ve ever had

Im pretty sure Stobrats got fined for doing exactly this over in Ireland contacting drivers with start times during their rest period,if I was working nights and they rang/text whatever at 16:00 I’d be 100% restarting my 11 hours off again.

Yeh that’s correct they did, and
So would I, for certain.

Not too bright are you? What about if you work at somewhere that runs 24hrs a day loading trailers all through that time where the trailer won’t be loaded until a particular time? What is the point in having the driver in much before then?
Another scenario. The wagon is double shifted, the driver using it before you isn’t scheduled to arrive until a certain time. Why would you come in before your wagon is even back in the yard?
I get given start times. If I start before then when I wanted I can be waiting hours for either my unit to come back off the day run or the trailer I’m taking up to Scotland to come up from another depot.

Why does it come as no surprise that you can’t think of reasons why a driver would be given a start time. Then again I suppose if all you’re used to is working for shonky cowboy outfits with a few knackered sheds that pay national minimum wage doing the job like its still the 1970s and have never worked for a large company with a decent sized fleet that operates in the 21st century then you’d probably not understand.
I support Dozy in this…i would want night money if i started at night…and last time i looked 0001 is just after midnight and to 0600 i would want paying a night rate.

Anything before 4am was classed as nights on our place,if you had a 3am or 3:30am start you’d get an extra £12

Wow! What’s rattled your cage Conor, have I just described you down to a tee in my reply to Andrew’s post, and you don’t like it or what?
The scenario that you point out concerning me aint ideal admittedlly, but I think even I would maybe prefer that to the drudgery of A to B agency runs day after day that you endure, even if it was an accurate account of my illustrious driving career.
(It aint by the way, but accuracy, or the lack of it in this case, has never stopped you in the past has it, with your bizarre assumptions. )
