…skip drivers, ro-ro’s etc. Getting a bit effed off with motor being used on nights and thinking of a change. Like the idea of mooching around locally on this type of work. Did a day on agency on ro-ro’s a few years ago and really enjoyed it, to my surprise. Like the idea of seeing more of the family too

Not been there long have you?
Anyway, depending on the work, ro-ro is around 400 take home for mon - fri which includes a little overtime.
The wood recyclers seem to pay the best, a lot of it is wag + drag, so a lot of arsing about, but, as you say, you’re home by 7 ish every night.

Been on here about 6 months, I’m not gonna be maritime bashing as I do like the job, it’s their lorry and they can do what they like with it, but sharing the motor aint for me. I was an only child, I don’t do sharing
On average my firms take home is between £420 and £550 depending if you do Saturday’s and a bit of o/t through the week.

That’s them who was you with coltons?
The 406 is a mare in the evening you tried pryors at Harlow
Yes mate, was on coltons for just over a year. Got sick of stripping tilts in the rain, and being on salary got a bit tired of the excuses drivers came out with why they couldn’t work past friday lunchtime, so I went back on the boxes, which suits me but as I said, they keep using the motor on nights and our night men don’t have any respect for the kit. That’s the only reason I’m looking about. We’ve got a few round our way, pryors and gbn in harlow, plus gibbs and a waste paper firm in hoddesdon, so plenty to look at

Is there no tramping down there?
Maritime up here was mainly tramping, can’t use your wagon if it’s not there, or do you not want tramping with having a family etc?
No chance of getting your fuel bonus either if a nightman uses the wagon, 1 used mine twice up here, once he must have averaged around 2mpg to drag my average down so far so fast (9.1 to 8.0 in 1 night - I’d done over 4000 miles averaging 9.1, so in 1 night of what? 300 miles MAX!), tossers.
You do nights out when it suits them wayne. 2 weeks ago they wanted it on a tuesday night saying the revenue was down, so home I goes, then last week I was out 4 nights with friday being tip wembley ex seaforth, reload dagenham to grain. They used it that night, how can revenue be down ffs. Then the nob head night man turns my fridge back on after i defrosted it, so i find smelley water sloshing around this morn, he cooked a curry in the microwave, which exploded and he didn’t clean up, he smoked in it, left my trailer plate in the door, which boils my pee, and gave someone a lift who left muddy prints on my carpet. To top it off he covered my run up ramps in grease, as the tube obviously needs retraining on picking up trailers, oh and he stole or lost my brush so i couldn’t even sweep his mess out. The really annoying thing is that we have twice as many day drivers as night drivers, so there is no reason why they should double shift trampers units. See what i mean about them having no respect. Then you complain and the office can’t find any record of who drove it. R soles. It made me feel like throwing the keys at them this morning
Whenever I’ve seen a Ro-Ro job advertised they’re always looking for experience of that kind of work. I believe Wincanton are looking for drivers @ Comet got no idea about the money or hours though.

I do that Easiest place to find it, used to have cab hopping, searching all over for con lock, trailer plate, when you did eventually find it all, you were in trouble because you should’ve been 100 miles away within 2 mins of starting
Oh, and there was ALWAYS at least 1 bulb out, if not bald tyres, because the lazy ■■■■ couldn’t be arsed reporting / replacing it, that’s why I took the permanent truck in Leeds when offered - even though it was 45 miles each way to work.
The driver that doesn’t use the air when picking / dropping a trailer is usually the 1 who bends the ■■■■ out of the retractable suzi thing (for when 45’s are on).
Smoking in a vehicle is a no no, but smoking in someone elses vehicle, they should be ■■■■■■■ hung, drawn and quartered, ignorant smelly scum. Fine if there’s only you that uses it, or if it’s your truck and I’m only in it for cover, but if it’s my assigned truck with my gear in, I would certainly make sure it was a 1 off.
Why he even touched your fridge is beyond me, and if his curry exploded, it’d have been ■■■■ easy to clean up straight away, not so much the next day though.
Just take your keys home with you.
Try Gibbs metals, the kit looks tidy for that work and scrap bins are not a bad number.

Yes graham, I’m on general, can’t agree with you more. I had two months on hapag when I was cab hopping. Same operator, Steve Case, got on really well and totally loved the job. I’ve got one operator who is brilliant, he never uses my lorry on nights, but the others are a wunch of bankers. If I was on hapag this truly would be the best job I’ve ever had, but seeing as csav pulled out of tilbury and the arab contract is going the same way, I’ve got quite a few in front for a contract job
You sound a bit fussy fella. Having to share a wagon is a fact of life for most drivers. A wagon to yourself is a luxury. Doing skips, working for waste companys you must be mad a lot of them are dodgy operators with minging wagons in crap enviroments. I would stick with good clean maritime and expect to clean out your cab everytime its been out with another driver.
