Whats the going rate for long haul drivers

Hi All

I am off for an interview for a long haul job and was wondering what the going rate is at the moment, I know it varies where in the UK you are (bit unfair but thats the way it seems) so would just like to get a rough idea please  thankyou.

40k a year.

Hi many thanks.for info 40 K wow I am in south west would that or should i say will that make a difference do you reckon? I know this may have been covered before but any info would be helpful. Cheers

In the southwest you can knock maybe ÂŁ10k off that figure.
As for “long haul” pay rates, they’ll be about the same as “short haul” rates

Isn’t that what the Gestapo said? :unamused:

Seriously though - a lower hourly rate is better if you get paid for ALL the hours you’re “at work”.
Higher hourly rates are not so good - if you only get paid “when wheels are turning”.
Just ask someone doing vehicle deliveries on £20+ph when they’re standing on some motorway sliproad trying to thumb a lift with their trade plates held up, in the pouring rain on zero pay…

I doubt you would get paid ÂŁ40 grand in the south west but i think most companies tend to pay that little bit extra above local rates, and then add nights away allowance and a bit more for going across the water, depends on what you call long distance, the tip of scotland, or the far south of the continent, but whatever it is good luck.

Hi mate if were tallkin class one I’d say min of 10 an hour with a guarantee of ten hours a day or around 120 a shift plus nights out I’d be v wiery about any form of bonus in relation as to what the truck earns I no others may disagree but I wouldn’t work for any less you’ve only got to look at the price of things in the shops nowdays this country is becoming rather expensive to live in

At the risk of causing an argument, Apart from thin air, just where do you get these figures from?

There’s jobs out there paying that and more you just got to find them
Where I live ok here we go the hourly rate is around 11 quid an at some places and as low as 8.50 at others
So I say ten quid is in the middle and Thts what I’d want
I’m not gona be shy about the area it’s swindon
The way I look at it 10 pound and hour times 50 hours a week is 500 quid - stoppages about 420 a week take not a great deal really
It’s v easy to be a bizzy fool n take a job with a low hourly rate n do 3 x 15 n 2x 13 hour shifts
What I find acceptable as a wage others won’t and that’s fine and every ones circumstances are different

Dont forget the 48 hour rules. You need to take off every few weeks without pay.

Yeah right. Meanwhile back in the real world!

Yeah I can’t see a tramping firm doing that! What’s a long haul driver by the way? Tramper inc UK? Or continental?

Why not? Thats what you earn.

40k is obviously top line with 5 nights out and max shift time 75 odd hours, perhaps with a sprinkling of running in sat morning & bouncing out sun eve. Lifer basically.

Anyone wants a tramping job in brum on those terms, PM me, self employed or LTD. Flats, straps, sheeting, weight, max hours, muddy boots, hard graft, legal. I appreciate you’ll earn more at Asda.

Two weeks away 24h+ reduced weekly rest in middle (sometimes a 2nd 24hr off in middle of one of the two weeks) 66hrs+ off long weekend when at home, so “long week/short week” working:
ÂŁ550home per week.
