Yeah I can’t see a tramping firm doing that! What’s a long haul driver by the way? Tramper inc UK? Or continental?

Hi yes sorry forgot to quantify my post, yes long haul meaning tramping round UK away Mon - Fri sometimes getting back in / or pulling out on weekends etc. Many thanks for helpful posts thus far people.

Class one here is typically £10 to £12 hour. Some pay a little more and some try it on to get drivers for less.

Don’t undersell yourself though. It is difficult to apply for other jobs when you are away from home.

LOL. £10/hr for tramping work based in Southwest? Dream on. Reality is more like a few pence above NMW, especially the further you go into the SW. Try giving Westfield’s a call and making some enquiries.

Downtons are looking for trampers in the south east, paying £9.45 per hour

Left hand down!:

Hi I have tried Westfields loads of times as have always liked there lorries e.g. clean etc but, as yet always get the no room at the inn scenario but you never know one day eh hopefully!!!

I know wages go down as you move south west maybe the government should know it (Oops ok apologies rant over). Maybe just maybe we in the southwest will come in line with every other part of the UK.

Last summer Westfields were paying £8 an hour and of course there was plenty of moaning about it. You’ll earn more money driving a rigid with a hiab in Kernow, but obviously it won’t be on ‘long haul’ work.

BTW the government does know about Cornish poverty, hence the Objective One Funding it granted.
