What's the biggest thing

That you’ve ran over!?

I nearly had a deer recently that stood about chest high on me, luckily it shifted pretty sharpish but it got me wondering - what’s it like hitting something like that!? and how often does it happen?

one of the lads i know on 8 wheelers swerve to miss a deer and the truck rolled on its side, luckily only his pride was injured. The biggest thing ive hit is a pheasent i tend slow or miss the rest.

I ran over a field once.

Does that count

Biggest thing I’ve hit is a rabbit…

Popped like a bag of crisps :grimacing:

luckily for me, nothing bigger than a fox, poor little sod.
a mate of mine, who i toured with last year, hit a horse on the a14, think it was out of the ■■■■■ camp, near cambridge, he said it was messy.

and, what is it with pigeons, why are they so thick, and fly straight into you, they have bloody wings, why havn’t they sussed out, how to climb higher, quicker :unamused:

i was in a 7 1/2 tonner a few years ago, and i ran over a ford mondeo and killed it

Ran over 10 hours once.

I didn’t think it was that big, but the man with the hat did.

I didn’t run over it, but I ran into a cow many years ago in a land rover. The cow was laid out on the road (read dirt track) and I was in a tree at the side of the road, I was lucky the tree was there as it was a very steep bank. :open_mouth: The front of the land rover was demolished, I was badly shaken, but not injured, as it was on a blind bend I went down the road a bit to stop anything else coming round and driving into the carnage, not that there was much traffic ever using this road, anyway about 20 minutes later a truck came up the road so I flagged it down and told him about the cow. He offered to help me pull it off the road then drive me to where I could get some help. Great :grimacing:
So we drive round the corner and the ■■■■■■■ cow has ■■■■■■ off. I’m sure it was dead when I left it :open_mouth:

It was one of the most scary things that has ever happened to me

Biggest thing I’ve actually hit was a pheasant which then became my Sunday lunch as I didn’t like demolishing a grille with no gain.

Most spectacular was a partridge that I hit at over 90, it collided with something solid under the car - sump I think. Went under intact but next time I saw it, it was just a cloud of feathers!

A Renault 5 on the peripherique

A vauxhall carlton which i would have spotted if i hadnt been looking at a mercedes eps gearlever with a terefied look thinking why have you selected neutral instead of a gear

A person, many years ago.

Yep I did an astra van with a coach. Perhaps he will cancel his left indicator nowadays.

As for animals, the list would be endless. Its wierd where the bird feathers end up, especially when you open the bonnet a few days after.

I’ve recently run over a Dalmation on the M62 near Burtonwood, I had my hand on the horn with nowhere to go and the dopey git still trotted straight in front of me.

A lot of Dalmatians suffer with deafness, it might not have heard the horn. I have a friend who has one and it is stone deaf and it’s a common problem with the breed.

Didn’t you spot it? :stuck_out_tongue:

PMSL

Had a few Deer, one mangled my bumper, one went straight underneath without leaving a mark & the last one ripped all the airlines out of my trailer brake chambers, locking all my trailer wheels at 70+mph, that was no fun, I had a Labrador a few weeks ago, that pushed my bumper into the front tyre & made a hell of a bang, although I don’t like killing things I don’t worry too much about Deer, but the dog really p’eed me off, the stupid thing came lolloping up a slip road straight in front of me, I didn’t even have time to hit the brakes, had the hump all day over it

I had a close escape with a Camel once, in Belgium of all places, it had escaped from a Circus & was galloping up the hard shoulder, all of a sudden the lorry in front of me swerved left & there it was, I thought I was seeing things

:open_mouth: A camel! When I saw you’d replied I was expecting a moose story but there you go

Years ago I got a hare, I was driving my old moggy minor at the time, I tipped it arse over head, in the process it disembowelled itself onan exhaust clamp or something, so when I went back to pick it up all I had to do was to pick it up by the ears and tail, give it a shake, and bobs yer uncle, it was gutted only needed skinning and that was it, ready for the pot :
Someone else mentioned pigeons. Mostly you can get them first thing in the morning while they’re picking up grit, they’re really dozy then. Someone else mentioned pheasants, well, when I was driving recovery vehicles, I had a whole spate of cars to recover that had had a pheasant through the radiator, they make a fair mess of surrrounding bodywork too.

i hit a seagull, stupid thing flew right infront of the truck and made a great thud sound when it hit the windsreen…i think it lived aswell

probably died later though cause i was doing 56mph when i hit it
