Whats the average hourly rate

Im thinking of taking evr if it comes round again at our place, mainly because things are changing rapidly and its a chance of getting a good package due to the years i’ve done. Which pretty soon the rules on evr are gonna change.
At present im earning £15.75 per hour and im contracted to do 37:15hrs per week.I’m also home every day.
If i do shifts then i get shift allowance. overtime is at the same rate what ever time of day it is.
Now the dilemma is i’ve looked around and all the jobs i’ve seen advertised are not paying this.
Even being away all week the pay seems less that what im earning doing night shift.
I’m now thinking, should i stay where i am as the job i do is not hard. :unamused:
So my question is :-

What is the average wage out there ?

almost 1/2 what you are earning. I would stay put in your shoes

For North East is from £7.00 p/h

So I would stay where you are

no brainer…stay where you are…thursday night i done 14 hrs at an hourly rate of £6.64 :open_mouth: friday night i done 7 hours my hourly rate was £13.28…but i am paid £93 per whatever hours i do…sometimes its good…MOST of the times its bad…

Thanks alot
i’ve made my mind up all ready.
i guess a big package wont last long at them rates

Anyone else think this is no more than a “my willy is bigger than yours” thread?

With some of the figures put out, it shows that some of us are lucky and some of u aint. Considering truck driving is supposed to be in the top 10 of ‘most stressful jobs’ behind brain surgery and air traffic control, it seems a lot of u work for the love of the industry and the freedom. If things don’t work out for our depot then i to will be working for naff all…because it’s the only thing i know. Bring in a ‘decent’ minimum wage i say. We are on a good screw, near on £13/hr, o/t after 9.5 @ x1.5/hr, bank hols (voluntary) is a straight 9.5 @ x2 (work 4hrs get the 9.5). I do 42hrs/wk (48hr wk) on my run, 1 guy who took over my ‘local’ run does, at tops, 30hrs but his contract is a tad different money wise and the 2 others do 25 - 35. We do (days) 1 night out/month which they are paying £35 cash plus they will reimburse any food or accomodation purchased…funny thing is, they make it back with minutes to spare simply because they dont wanna run back saturday morning…which will be paid hrs worked @ x 1.5 :unamused: Shifts are Monday-Friday (days) Sunday-thursday (nights)

This is not one of those threads mate.
I in general didn’t realise that people were earning that lower rate that some have expressed on this thread. Mainly because i’ve been in the same job for quite a few years and had no intention on leaving.
But when you may have the chance to get a nice package to leave you start looking around.
I know that a lot of people on here are paid less than they actually deserve and I agree that there should be something put in place regarding a minimum wage especially when the majority of people are paying out for there own training in the first place.
Anyway my willy ain’t that big so i guess i won’t win on that one :open_mouth:

I wont win that 1 either as mine is non excitant

This government would want to abolish the minimum wage if they could just as Mrs Thatcher done all those years ago

I’m averaging £9ph, sometines it gets to the dizzy heights of £10ph. If I do a night shift then I car earn as much as £11.50ph, would live your hourly wage.
Don’t have an average week but do between 40-50hours whenever I can.

I guess you don’t work for a haulage company, but a company who has trucks to distribute their own products?

we need more info, what do you earn p.w, how many hours are you doing, whats your yearly pay.
if you get 585 p.w[15x 37] then thats easily obtainable, i earn between 6-700 p.w,thats 5 days, and our wages are according to most crap,so most must be earning more than me so id tale the redundancy, bank it[or whatever],get another job, earn as much, but be prepared to do a sight more hours than you do now

I think thats about hit the nail on the head I"m lucky enough to work for the later whilst i"m not on 13p/h the pay isnt far away from that it"s all the little things around it that i like things like company summer BBQs with free bar,Bonfire night and christmas do"s
The downside is that my boss is always chasing our hours down but as they say there are a grain merchant not a haulage company

Sounds like a 5 over 7 shift contact on nights to me. I once worked for a major supermarket chain running from Northwich on £10.02ph until 5 years ago. I was ‘on’ 4 full weekends from 8…never again. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Same here,i work for a food processing company and the transport dept is just another dept,we get a cracking hr rate plus average earnings holiday pay but only because the factory does, they dont crack down much on the hours much as if the factory breaks down we have to sit and wait to get off loaded and nobody worries  the downside is if the factory runs out of birds theyre chasing you for an eta (but only if you answer the phone  ) as we are tracked so they know where you are anyway :open_mouth:

I deliver our companys manufactured goods and can dismiss the myth that its better pay/conditions than General Haulage (well, in my case anyway) !
I get payed just over £8.00 an hour but do get 1.5 for overtime (40 hrs), £23 for nights out. I haven’t had a pay rise for 5 years and drive a 9 year old ERF !
We have had to have an extra week off after New Year without pay and this is the 3rd year running we haven’t had a ‘Christmas Do’ or any sort of bonus or thankyou.
We have been told ‘No pay rises for the forseable future’ and get ready for another round of 4 day weeks !

Maybe you’ve got to work for a firm who works in the food sector…Actrosman is on for 3663,The Big Un is on for a grain merchant and i’m on for a major chicken processor…all food based, all paying above average rates??
