what would you do?

.

Are you allocated a certain truck all the time then? Maybe ask to be swapped so you share with a different driver?

Unfortunately there are many a lazy sod wherever you go, in my work some people will do anything to drag the job out to get more hours in.

Are you hourly paid, if so then surely you are gaining cos you’re being paid to wait, if you’re on job and finish if before your 8 hours is up just get the other driver to give you a bell when he’s an hour from finishing, always best to work together.

Grassing to the management is not on, you’re doing the office spies job and it will backfire sooner or later, working men don’t do that unless they want a job in the office and think being the company spy is the way to go about it.

I am guessing when you are the early driver, you get back earlier than he does?
If so, doing the same to him when your on earlys may cure the problem, if not have a word with him, if your man enough!!!

yes i am man enough, last time i had words with him he ran to management telling tales about me.have also got back later than i should and ,next thing i know he is at t.os moaning about me getting back late?

Don’t forget this driver is earning you an extra hour’s pay per day. When you finally get your truck I hope you’re making a manual tacho entry booking on from you start time, not the time you put the card in. If management is on the ball they will know what the other driver is doing without you telling them. If they’re happy to let him get away with it so be it but they may just be giving him enough rope to hang himself.

start time is when he gets back to yard so no i do not get hours extra pay, just end up finishing later.

Maybe this driver is doing everything by the book i.e not tipping on break etc etc or maybe he thinks he needs 30 minute breaks after 6 hrs of work instead of 15, just a couple of reasons that entered my bald head.
But i doubt that he’ll keep getting away with it if he is in fact pulling a fast one. Oh and you shouldn’t grass.

Nobody likes a grass or a jobsworth. IF you are hourly and you have been given a start time just make a manual entry at the start of your shift and you still get paid for your waiting time, next time bring a book, relax and enjoy yourself in the knowledge that no matter what, you are getting paid for your time. If you are paid a guaranteed set rate or salary for your shift that wait is part and parcel of your job, however still make that manual entry that way the audit trail will flag it eventually.

assuming the drivers are paid by the hour then the management are not going to be happy paying two drivers for the same hour when only one is actually doing any work so make sure you do a manual entry from your designated start time to when you actually get into the vehicle - that is a legal requirement anyway

Are you salaried or paid by shift? - if yes then start time is still not when you get vehicle but when you get to work

Its still illegal if the waiting time for a vehicle is not recorded

If the hour delay is a regular occurrence and you are salaried then change your regular time to 1 hour later

Start time should be the time you are given to start work just because there’s no truck for you to drive doesn’t mean you haven’t officially started work, surely you are given an official start time ?

How do you know what time he’s going to get back to the yard?

…or do you sit at work waiting for him for free? :open_mouth:

Thats a shining example of why working blokes need to organise themselves into a union.

Hourly paid? you have a start time, thats when the clock starts and runs until you finish, not your problem if the lorry isn’t back, if you’re on flexi start then don’t go in till the bloody lorry’s there, simple.

This tin pot company is having its cake and eating it, and drivers ■■■■■■■■ to the office about each other is playing right into their hands.

get a call from driver telling me what time to be in yard

Phew.

For a minute there I thought you were every employer’s ■■■■■■■■■; a bloke who grasses up his colleagues for squeezing out a bit of overtime while at the same time working for free himself.

why should i be the last person to finish when on lates every time just because someone hangs the job out to get more over time in.of course i have reported it to mangement simply because i have tried to talk to him about it but he went to mangement about me,i am getting a bit ■■■■■■ off having to finish later than i should .

It doesn’t matter if you’re hourly paid or not. Not everyone wants to be in work longer than necessary.

Just do the same to him.

Or, as he’s obviously a ■■■■■ tell him so!

Seriously, I would feel irritated by this too, but grassing him up isn’t likely to help much. I know of a company local to me that sacked a driver for dragging the job out excessively over a period of time. He thought he was getting away with it but the company were watching him like a hawk…

If you’re lucky, the company may spot it. If not, bad luck 'cos you’re working for a bunch of idiots!

Does he take the same amount of time when he is on lates?
