Last year i went to a RDC and there said that the driver as to unload, i said why, he look at me and said cos its your job, i said to him show me where its says that i have unload, its the norm he said most drivers unload here, so i said OK were do i go, he said follow me, we came to a door and i stopped and said sorry not going in there he said why cos it says employee’s only, that OK i taking you there, sorry no i said, he said to me that if you don’t do it you not going to be unloaded, OK give me the paper work and i take it back he said what !
Any way he go sit down will get manager 5 Min’s later manager come over and says why won’t you unload, i said not allowed, in your RDC,but we are given you permission to go in, and i said yes that right but are you going to insure me while am on your property, unloading your goods in your warehouse where you have staff to do it who are insured.
later the manage comes back and said we will unload you in 10 Min’s 30 Min’s later left.

nice one i do basically the same as you have done here. If they dont want to tip there goods i tell them i’ll take them back i still get paid same mileage back most of them soon tip it but i have ran back with a few loads that they wouldnt take. Thing is in uk its expected that you tip someone elses goods which is wrong its not our job you go anywhere in europe and 99% of time you dont even leave your wagon to be tipped. also if you pull into a warehouse in the uk and there is a foreigner in there no way will he be tipping himself but you will be asked to
hmmm…normally i’d tell them ■■■■■■■■ as i’m a mechanic not a loader.
but this week went to collect an mot truck, which was already a day late as it had been used on an urgent run.opened the shutter and found it partially loaded.rang round and tried to get it tipped but the only option remaining was to ‘tip it yourself’.i was told to make sure it was inside the loading dock and stacked on pallets…85 garment boxes.
yeah ,right o…i did tip it. (as otherwise it would miss the mot next day)…in a pile at the back of truck.and then made a sharp empty exit from the yard.
its horses for courses
whats the norm on the job
by helping is it just a one off
etc
i used to go to Nacam in Vendome
i could never get there ealry enough to tip before tea time
so i just got on with it myself
when they came back from tea it was just a quick scribble on the paperwork and i was away
i did one job where i got left to load and unload on my own, but tbh i was happy loading the pallets on and off myself. but they asked me if i minded doing it and i was being paid like £10 an hour which si good for me so yea.
anywhere else though i would tell them to get stuffed, especially getting 9k garments off a truck aye right ill stick my fingers where the sun dont shine before i do that
Well ive been told this morning that they are wanting rid of him now, he’s been here 2 years now but on agency so I guess he’ll be looking elsewhere after today.
I am waiting for the trailer and unit now so obviously they’re still loading it
I dont mind jumping in the back to give someone a hand , but if they go walkabout and leave it to me ya should see how slow I can go . They allways get the hump and jump back up sometimes tellin me Im useless and to leave it to them. Useless yes er stupid NO!
It’s all in the job title, if I’m a lorry driver then I drive lorries, if I’m a lorry loader/unloader then I load/unload them, simple…
All this pumping pallets up & down trailers is disgraceful, not only do companies use your trailer as free storage while you sit waiting in their yard for 3 or 4hrs, they also expect you to ■■■■■ their wage bills by loading/unloading the thing too, it’s all wrong, there may be a job shortage at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you have to be exploited

You wouldn’t like my job then. Went out with 13 ton on today, 10 ton offloaded by hand; individual 25kg bags of sheep feed. Pallet trucks aren’t an option (hill farms are not noted for their level concrete yards ) and few of these farms have tractors big enough to handle a 1-ton front-loader.
I always thought that people who only did driving were chauffeurs.
On a similar note what happens when you get to an RDC and they tell you they dont accept mixed pallets you have to break them down. Now I must admit I,ve done it to help out a guy I was working for so the load would,nt get refused, but it wont happen again as he has since [zb] on me .
Dont do favours any more .

Close!
Actually did well today; cuppa at my first drop, then landed at the third at lunchtime; after we’d unloaded 4 tons, back to the farmhouse for cawl (traditional lamb broth with leeks, carrots, swede & potato, lovely) and two more cuppas.
That’s more the exception than the rule, we also go to farms where they wouldn’t give you the steam off the muckpile!
