well into my 4th week on the artics and tramping out, full week away last week and plenty of hours worked.
tomorrows job is beckton in london for a drop at 9am, coming from hull what time would u set off? im thinking 2.30-3am, with time for a break enroute before i hit london or would u travel down this afternoon?
Personally, I’d go down tonight, but if you want secure parking with facilities, it’s pretty much Services on a Sunday.
There’s a few 24/7 truck stops around, but not many.
It’s a good idea to have a fresh drive time session when you enter London, ■■■■ goes wrong, fast and often, and it’s not the easiest place to find somewhere to park unless you can wait at a customers premises.
What will you get paid for going today?
Yes,i’d go this afternoon.
If I was doing it I would run today then get eleven hours off tonight or more.
More relaxing, no commuters.
Beaconsfield Msa is on Snap account, with numerous good food outlets and Weatherspoons.
Or South Mimms or Waltham Abbey off at Junction 26 M 25, but not sure if the cafe is open sundays.
If you left Monday am at 2am ish, you need to be booking off early Monday afternoon, which messes up the week and sleep patterns.
Or risk parking near Beckton to beat the traffic Monday morning.
Bearing in mind, the motorways get very busy on Sundays with leasure drivers.
Yep running down tonight is favourite for me.
If you have to go in the morning aim for a 2-2.30am start, then crack on to west thurrock or preferably purfleet truck stop (reckon 4 hours ish taking her steady) have your 45 then run in on the A13, should miss the lorry ban nicely (although shouldn’t affect you till the last mile or two) and arrive around 8 -8.30 if the traffic gods are kind. Where are you delivering too as this could be critical for timing if you can park off road if early ■■
Going tonight I would maybe park at west thurrock services but make sure to have 11 off so arrive 7am - 7.30 for a 6.30 am start. So leave around 2.30-3pm tonight and have a steady tootle down with a wee stop on the way if needed.
Edit too add: Although I usually go for the M11 - A406 into London I believe theres enough of a cushion built in to these timings to battle it out on th A13, sorts the men from the boys a bit.
Yeah as others have said I’d go down this afternoon and have an 11 off. Don’t try and park on any industrial estates around there even if you see no parking restrictions as you may find a parking ticket on your window when you wake up or a parking notice being sent to your company. Park at Thurock services if you need secure (cough) parking or if you fancy a couple of pints and a nice feed go to the worlds end pub down by Tilbury docks, free parking and I’ve never had any problems there. Should get on there easy on Sunday’s.
2am start?.. ■■■■ that, unless I am getting a decent rate . I would set off Sun pm, get Sun rate for it, park up and get a good start in morning before traffic gets evil. Arrive an hour early and get kettle and cornflakes out, sorted.
To get away at 2 would mean you going to bed Sun pm, so giving up your day off, not sleeping properly, and driving with eyes sticking out like Bulldog’s balls in the morning.
Too many treat this job like some kind of bloody endurance task , me? I run it to suit me.
Pm me and I will tell you where to park free off the 25 (with a good pub that does food as long as you keep it to yourself ) if you are struggling.

Nowt like dangling a carrot for us who like a pub for when we park up and especially around that area
As long as you have enough hours left on this weeks drive to do it too!!
I would go Sunday!!
Don’t forget about the London Lorry Ban before getting ideas of going all the way and nighting out outside the gates. Personally running out on Sunday when you’ve been tramping all week wouldn’t be something I’d do. You already have almost no life outside of work as it is living in the truck 5/6 days and running out on Sunday will just mean you have even less.

His Sunday is ruined anyway with an early night and up at silly o’clock. Much better to get a night out in the wagon Sunday night then finish Friday for a full 45 hours + next weekend, thats providing this weekly rest is available to be reduced to start with.
Hourses for courses etc but as a tramper quality time is king and going to bed eary on Sunday then having to commute at silly o’clock would ruin my Sunday completely. Going tonight will allow him a virtually normal relaxed day (well unless he likes a beverage or two, but thats risky starting that early tomorrow anyway) then a nice relaxing evenings ramble down the A1 / M11 etc…
Edit: I’m presuming that the OP is being paid proper Sunday rate which will allow his company to get more work out of him tomorrow rather than having to be parked up at 3.30 or 5.30 because he started so early Monday morning…

Yes,i’d go this afternoon.

Conor has a point, but that is the life of a tramper and maybe not for everybody.
What you say is right, the boss benefits, and the driver gets Sun rate and a n/o paid, and is more alert on Mon am, everybody wins. Who the hell wants to go to bed to (try) get a decent kip for a stupid o’ clock start when you can make life much easier for yourself. Keep the 2 am starts for the Haulage Heroes

ive had over my weekly rest period so im ok with that, i dont mind starting early and its only because a couple of guys have left and dropped em in it, so ive ended up with the run, plus up side is il get out of london early and plenty of time off before next run on tuesday morning and back to normal.
also my trucks in for service and wont be back till later this afternoon
theres always some who would have a tacho that they could turn the clock back before leaving in the morning, then when your outside the gates, pull your card, put it forward again ,bung your card back in and ,hey presto,9 hours off?..if theres no tracker on the truck, then its sunday pay for not working sunday, and a heavy shift on Monday…perish the thought theres some would do that…though if they were, then obviously they would be cowboys and not on trucknet as everyone in here is squeaky clean with never an infringement.if it was ever to be debated, then obviously the truck was getting fixed on sat with the batteries out,and that must have buggered up the clock,or would someone else have a better excuse? every other weekend the 2 ferry terminals here,or castle kennedy are flatout with the sunday boat traffic listening to the same story.
Go this afternnon when you get the unit back.
And why have they left? Anything to do with starting early on a Monday morning at silly o’clock? If these drivers have left because of this, then it’s down to you not to do it too. Start early when others won’t will end up with you doing it all the time.
Personally I would run from Hull to around Colsterworth or Stibbington, break for an hour, then as SteveBarnsley says, run to World’s End, Tilbury. RM18 7ND. Couple of beers and bite to eat, wake up nice and fresh for a run into London.
