What type of driving job for a lazy [zb]

Actrosman:
What area are you in? Anywhere near Reading? I did put up on here not so long back that we were after a night driver (if you can call it that!) but didn’t seem like there was any interest!

Message Jennie, she’s Reading way and likes night work! I can text her if you like?

Class 2 multi-drop is about at hard as it gets which is why I went straight to C+E. I intended to aim for containers but there is (it seems) a LOT of waiting around so I’ve gone for fridge boxes, so far so good, nice and relaxed, I do enough to feel like I’m getting exercise and the odd tough day but overall pleasant and clean.

Tell me about it, you wanna see my other post about getting screwed by the agency on class 2 multi drop

Now that’s a different matter…we’ve already got a subbie that runs up to Manc at night as his return load! And btw…it’s not ‘drops’, it’s drop…singular, full load, all palletised…turn up, open doors, put on the bay, wait for green light, bog off back, on bay, go home…don’t touch anything.

Cool…as it happens, we are having our fleet replaced sometime in the future and will be after a day driver…if I decide to go to days (gaffer says he’d prefer me on a new unit/trailer than an agency fella, who could easily do a night run, but I’m weighing things up atm) then, by my reckoning, my nice little touch on nights will be up for grabs…form an orderly queue!

containers mate with out doubt

Easiest driving job I had was on Roadsweepers. Cruising up and down at less than ten miles per hour, whilst the steering wheel jockeys put themselves in heart attack country trying to meet deadlines… Plus at that time they were tacho exempt…

Second easiest driving job was tippers, only ever spoilt by the occasional ‘gaffers man’ running in the pack… got 'em nowhere though…

Gonna have to agree that containers are perfect for lazy buggers. Don’t get me wrong theres a lot to take on board mentally with differemt dock procedures but after a few months its second nature and not being allowed into the box is also perfect. Hardest bit can be opening and shuttng the doors if your have a stiff one or a 10 + year old MSC box

3 - 4 hour tips become the norm and apart from the occasional silly RDC waiting room shenanigans most of the time you can relax in your cab or bugger off for a bit.

Hours can be long though so not a job for those who want a 48 hour week, 70 - 80 on average depending on who you work for.

Sounds like container work is where I want to be! Do I have to have Class 1 or do they run containers on Class 2?

Class 1 mainly but did see an 8 wheeler rigid with a 20’ box on the other day.

Weight varies but a lot of the time i’m running around 38-42 ton ish, although its nice to get a lite one from time to time.

Easy work but long hours, the trick is to take your time and double check everything as complacency can creep in.

As far as delivery schedules go they are usually doable by the planners but no pressure as the box may have been at sea for a few weeks so an hour or so late is no big deal, well not to me anyway.

Tanker driving is also a very easy job for the work shy

What sort of tanker driving? Iv just finished a winter fuel contract (class 2) and that wasn’t easy

I wasn’t work shy and I did a spell on boxes. I went on containers as a tramper because it gave me time to study during tips. I preffered the variety of the general haulage tramping I had done, but living in the lorry not getting covered in crap vs getting covered in crap had plenty of merits too.
