What truck did you all buy for your first wagon?!

Basically what the title says chaps, I was wondering what motors you bought to start off with? And how long you kept the first one?
Cheers,

E reg Seddon Atkinson 311, ■■■■■■■ L10 engine, spicer 10 speed gearbox. It cost me £12,500. Had a few problems over the nine months I owned it but it never was my cup of tea although it get me up and running. Went mad then and bought an L reg Scania now that was a great wagon and really got me on my feet.

Renault Magnum, had it two years now and it’s been a fantastic truck. I’ll run it until something major goes wrong with it and then I’ll scrap it, but I won’t buy another truck. I always knew this was the first and last truck I would ever own.

This one, on 1st May 1987, a 1979 Leyland Clydesdale, bought off an owner operator who had it from new, I ran it a couple of years on general haulage.

The first one I bought was an F16 Globetrotter, F160 â– â– â– , started in 1993. Ran it for a couple of years and sold it for more than I bought it for, made good money working that lorry, even though it had an appetite for diesel.

I Had a bit of a sabbatical in 2001 when I worked on TRUCK mag, then started up again in 2003, another sabbatical in 2007 selling Mercs while I waited to come over to Canada in 2008 and then had to wait until this year to start again because of immigration status (have to be a permanent resident to be in business) bought another Volvo this time, but it cost a little bit more than the old F16.

Scania 111 s reg,5 year old when me and Barclays bank bought it,cost me 6000 with work,32 tonner then upped it to 38 tonne, replaced it with an F12 flat top, great days.

I started in 1994 and bought a 1989 F reg Scania 113 kept it 4 years until 1998 when I bought a new Daf

My false start was a Merc actros, not too bad apart from the end of he red airline would sometimes â– â– â– â– â– â–  air to the trailer caused lock up, head scratcher that was I tell thee.

My next proper go was a 51 plate 3 year old sprayed silver tga Xxl 460 or 80 can’t remember, comfort shift manual, lovely truck. Sold him to a new start od after a few years then something major failed & sunk him I think, I even gave him some money back as I felt bad, dunno wether he serviced him though as he was a bit of a cowboy.

My first purchase was an F86 in 1980, hated the thing, used to wake up in the winter with my
hair frozen to the curtains and the window also my feet frozen, Im 6ft 1in, was a bit small for me.

Ford D800 tipper running locally on ■■■■■■■■ from demolition sites 8 loads a day at £3 a load local, £5 max on diesel, ran it for 2 years then it just locked up on crank.Paid £200 for it got £180 for scrap alloy body and £60 for rest so wasn,t a bad start.  :sunglasses:

Chaversdad I wonder if your Centurion was the one I owned,J981 BYA I think and Harry don’t get tooo excited about an early retirement from
trucking my Maggie has entered her 10th year think I will be scrap before Maggie is.Ah! forgot, my first rig was a left â– â– â– â– â– â–  141,Scanias best ever.
