What state is your truck in after holiday cover?

Too many people say “my truck”…its not yours, its the companies, and if someone else drives it, so be it.

you beat me to the point.
IF it was theirs (bought & paid for) they`d have parked it up, & took the keys with em before heading off on holiday.

If anyone expects their truck to be clean when they return from holiday, at least go to the trouble of leaving some cleaning materials (polish, dusters, etc) around, so that the profesional agency drivers can at least try to clean up before the regular driver returns

Thats the problem you obviously dont think about though do you. I Do own the truck in question but i leave it to be used to keep my job and the 10 others drivers 2 office staff and garage staff employed. But what do you care as you obviously dont have a care in the world try buying something of your own one day or are you happy to have someone come round and [zb] in your bed.

Some folks live and learn you obviously have a hard time doing the living bit.

This is obviously where you should be not driving anything bigger than a HotWheels car you window licker.

once did 3 months holiday relief using about 9 trucks and only 2 were fit to live in i used to spend hours getting them to an acceptable state that i would live in then hand them back a week or two later to the regular tramps that inhabited them!!Prizes for guessing how long they stayed decent?

I was on holiday relief last year.,driving dirty unloved badly abused wreck of a tipper. I was going to wash it after my last shift, was told you cant use MY pressure washer you are agency. I left it a bit dirtier than when I got the pile of zb.was willing to clean it but there you go.

Not my problem you complete moron! And if you own 10 trucks and cant afford to stand one up for a week, you’re as bad at the job as the driver you hired.

And how does he get away with taking the ■■■■ outta under-priveledged children■■?

started back today after two weeks off and truck has new tyres and been for a service and thats it, the boss parks them up if somebody is off.
the trailer however has been shotblasted, repainted, new curtains and new tyres :open_mouth: :open_mouth: looks gorgeous

i got in this morning and inside the cab was spotless and smelled of vanilla :grimacing:

the agency driver had obviously had a good clean round and spruce when he left it friday, i was well pleased and will be telling my manager when i get back tonight.

On the flip side here, and I know as I have experienced it,I once got in a truck to take over for a guy that had gone on holiday. The truck concerned was 2 years old,and I promptly got out of it,and took the keys back to the office, and put them back on the table, and refused to drive it because of the state it was in.

I even got the office manager to go and look for himself if he didn’t believe me.

So it’s not just relief drivers that are a dirty bunch of ■■■■■■■■■■■■■ regular drivers are just as bad.

As the saying goes,“Let him without sin cast the first stone.”

Ken.

I wont rise to Ark-Angels comment.
All I will say on the OP, is that I leave trucks how I find them, always in “as found condition”

hiya,
if it’s owned by a firm show any damage or dirty conditions to the guvnor whiz a drop of dettol about jump in and get her earning money he’ll think more of you and if he does’nt he’s an idiot, only moving motor’s are making money motors sitting on the wash are’nt.
thanks harry long retired.

I dread leaving the truck even just when i have a night off. Sometimes to the point where if there’s a job for the truck and i’m meant to be off i’ll go and do it anyway. Sounds sad i know but i’ve spent too much time and money on it to have someone be careless with it. Which they most definitely have been in the past. As for when i leave it for a week or more at a time, just daren’t look at it. Guaranteed to be covered in diff oil atleast… :imp:

just had a fortnights holiday, and our place had a temp in my truck"its ok buck,he"s clean and experienced.". :unamused:
now bearing in mind i left the truck washed inside and out, with a full tank of fuel, all straps oiled, neatly stowed no defects and ready to use,i come back to find the inside not too bad, though it had been smoked in,outside filthy, straps missing and moved to places they werent needed and two whacking great dents in the top rear of the cab, where apparently a car had moved during transit!
next time i hope they employ stevie wonder!

As i am about to start a job where i will be sharing a truck with 2 other drivers, i am probably going to be facing this every day!

I am pretty certain the company take a very dim view of smoking in cabs, which for me as a non smoker is good. I would hate to get into a cab smelling of ■■■■ with ash everywhere.

I took that to mean that he just owns the truck, not the business, am i wrong?

We run 100 or so (depending on work) HGV’s of various sizes, inevitably the ones who have consistant drivers are usually (note the qualifier there) tidy, we provide EVERY cleaning product etc you could want, and where there isn’t facility to wash down in a depot we will reimburse for using forecourt washers.

Trucks that share drivers are usually a tip, 99% of the time, my 1985 Leyland is in better nick than some 04 (08’s even!! :open_mouth: ) plate mercs we have that are used by these people.

I have been trying to work out the X factor, is it 1 driver to 1 cab = clean? Or what? Or if its not clean when i start i aint gonna clean it?

Image is improtant to our business as our contract is about up, how can I drum tidyness and cleanliness into our drivers?

i was toying with the idea of having every vehicle washed and valeted and starting afresh but i doubt that would work.

We have drivers nicknamed Shrek and Trigger for a reason :unamused:

I own the truck and the business.

I don’t care if i share a truck or not, i would still leave it in a clean and tidy condition, at least the inside. May not always get the time to clean outside when handing it over.

I would hope that those i share with do the same. If you start off with a clean tidy truck (and we will be as it will be brand new) then it only takes a little effort at the end of your stint to keep it that way.

I would of course much prefer a job where i was the only user of the truck…

i covered a truck for a dutch firm last week upon getting in it i have never seen a truck so dirty in my life!!!

ashtray over flowing with ■■■ ends,Grase every where where they had been cooking in the cab!!!

All the drivers kit was still in it a frdige full of rotten food it was absolutely disgusting so i cleaned it all up washed the outside did i get any thanks NO !!!

Makes me wonder what there houses are like

why not pay a bonus for keeping the veh clean,handover/takeover would be the drivers respondibility and a checklist inc ad blue, fuel etc, cleanliness inside/outside.if your reputation relies on it then it musy be worth giving it ago?

i.ve been off for 5 weeks so i hope theyve left it as i did…sandwich packets, sweet wrappers behind the passenger seat, grease on the seats, damage to near side front, coca cola stains on the centre consul, windscreen and steering wheel, curtains ripped down, susies greased up, along with the cat walk etc, thats all i can think of for now, bearing in mind its an 08 motor, and thats how i normally find it after having the weekend off…so i decided …it would stay like it…did get a comment from the manager once, said a driver had complained about the state of my truck and refused to drive it…so i pointed out that it wasnt me who made it like that, and at least i dont refuse to drive it…and also told him that if he didnt like it then he could clean it…cos i wouldnt…so hopefully…its still the same…its a work horse not a show motor, and it certainly aint a second home, even if i spend more time in it than i do at home, and lastly…it aint mine.

Not a problem at our place because when I’m off my truck is parked up , but if someone else did get to drive it I would expect to find it as I left it .

hiya,
truckyboy nice to hear from you, a proper driver at last, once worked for a little outfit a bit on the regimental side in operation who kept records of work done and tonnage carried on a a per month basis, over a six month period i averaged 72.3 tons per month more than the nearest rival but sadly the motor was a bit grotty externally, but a little fairy used to clean it up at weekends and i never saw a thing, bit of a mystery really and the guvnor never complained.
