When I am driving my car and I see a lorry travelling very close behind, so close that I know he could not stop if I had to brake suddenly, the only thing I can think of doing is to slow down for safety’s sake. I guess the lorry driver then thinks why is he going so slow. How can I get the message to the pillock that the reason I am going so slow is that he is following so close?
I’ve found myself in that situation so many times it’s not funny. I slow down until the ■■■■■■■■■ gets the message and overtakes.

If it was on the motorway and i was happy in the left lane, i`d move out and find another little space ahead of me and 
away from him.
PMSL, ive just re-read your post.........WHY IN THE HELL WOULD YOU WANT TO SLOW DOWN TO LET THE DRIVER KNOW THAT HES TO CLOSE■■? you might as well tie a banner to the top of your car saying "GET TOO CLOSE TO ME AND KILL ME BECAUSE IM A COMPLETE FURKIN` SPANNER!!!"

Either put your toe down and get out of the way, or ease off enough for him to be able to overtake if the road is clear. Don’t aggravate the situation.

I’d like to know what has prompted Mr Clark to sign up / post in the first place as I get the impression that there’s a single incident that has prompted it, so please give a bit of background info.

LOL, ah! @Robk, i think i was part of that thread you mentioned…i kinda stepped on yer toes for fun and made myself look a slight bit of a plum… i`m sorry! 
To be fair he hasn’t come on here saying the usual “all lorry drivers are merchant bankers” so fair play to him. I’m sure it can be distressing for car drivers to have a big truck with some ■■■■ at the wheel tail gating them. Sometimes people tail gate without realising they are doing it and some peoples idea of a safe distance varies widely with others. Just use your common sense dude, dropping the power only works if he has somewhere to go, you could indicate left as well.

The next time you find yourself in a similar situation.
Just ask the question,what would Dennis Weaver do?
I would do sweet fa, there is 40 ft of trailer between me and him so it is very unlikely i will get hurt, he knows what will happen if he hits my trailer so let him get on with it.
Edit: i misread and did not see the car bit, if i was in my car there would be no chance of him tailgating me i would either be driving to fast for him to tailgate or if in slow traffic i would stop and drag the muppet out of his cab and teach him the error of his ways.
Its not a wind up. If he is 10 foot behind me irrespective of speed, it must be safer at 20mph than it would be at 40mph? I do pull in if there is somewhere to pull in.
When I have 40 tons behind me its not as scary as it is in a car.
Unfortunatly there is a very small percentage of truckers that are thick as ■■■■■ Your best bet is to drive at the speed limit if it is safe to do so and leave a bigger distance between you and the vehicle in front so you can brake more gradually if needed. Pull over when you can and get the phone number of whoever he/she works for and tell his/her gaffer of his unsafe driving technique.
