I take it the services still have showers in them ■■? been about 8 or 9 years since i tramped, lookin forward to it.
 in theory yes, weather they’re serviceable or what state (turd) they’ve been left in is a different matter…

I’ve did about 3 years tramping after I left the mob. Mainly because the first haulage first that rung me asked me to do “a few nights out a week” a “few” turned out to be almost all of them. Got divorced stayed tramping. Got with the current Mrs TT (OIC House) she put paid to the tramping after a further 9 months living “together” so I’ve gone onto tippers at night.
I was offered a far better paid job with my own much newer lorry recently. I attempted to obtain permission. Request denied with the words “like ■■■■■■■ hell you will”
I’m liking quotation marks today.
I’m a loner and don’t like most people so it suits me
Beans, Cabbage, Peas. . .
Oh, you said Tramp.
The Pros for me are: Don’t have to commute to and from the work place every day, lower fuel costs and less wear tear on the car/tyres ect, you wake up at work, none of the 2 + hrs per day unpaid ( average commuting time) and can sometimes pay more money , or you just get to keep more of it as N/O allowance is tax free , You do occasionally do get to see some of the nicer parts of the country your in ,
Cons:You are living in a tin /fibreglass box ,sometimes you end up parking in places with no facilities , there is a greater risk to your personal safety (depending on where you park up) whilst sleeping in your cab
when your out on the road ,you are on your own 9 out of 10 times there ain’t gonna be anyone to help you out, And you don’t get to enjoy living in the home that you are paying for ,
But thats the nature of this job, swings and roundabouts as they say,But i would sooner be on the road 2-3weeks at a time even travel 100-200 miles to work (once every 2-3 weeks) As long as i would get paid a fair wage for everyday spent away in the truck, none of this we don’t pay for 24 -45hr weekly rests or other driving bans (European work) or if your on a 24hr ferry crossing nonsense that those crap companies have started doing, all because our migrant friends think this is acceptable and the norm,
A large CSA bill. Mrs B kicking me out the door on a Monday morning telling me to stop being a #@&%$£ mard arse and grow a pair and now every week is a new adventure!
I prefer long distance work rather than local.
if you tramp for a living its nice if you have a roomy cab like the daf 95 or the MAN,or renault magnum but i have seen guys living in scanias and other small vehicles and often wonder how they put up with it,used to night out a few years ago but i like my own bed now[more comfortale]
I started doing tramping because of arguments at home. Three adults, all dominant personalities in the house with another about to hit adulthood I thought it was a good idea to lessen the tensions a bit. It worked too. But now that I have been at it for all of a month and a half, I wouldn’t change it. The only thing better than the vastly improved environment at home is the commute. I used to go thirty miles each way, now I do about 30 cms.
The only thing that I am grumbling about at the moment, (aside from having a five year old highline rather than a brand spanking new MP4 Gigaspace! I know, wishful thinking) is that I am subbed to Fowler Welch. That gets changed next week but from what I understand i will still be subbed to a company and returning to base each night. I signed up to tramp so for godsake let me bloody tramp!
On a 30 hour ferry to Malta the firm only pays for 9 hours.Like it or lump it.

I tramp cos the wife is a big fat ugly git… but don’t tell her I told you that lol …
Hehe
Nights out and distance in a Volvo Wendyhouse FL10.They pulled well.
Or a low cab Scania 112 or 113.Now we are talking real trucks. No fancy computer where the engineer has to fly out to you while broken down in the Ural mountains.
The Iveco 360 Turbostar.British International had a few hundred of those.Ugly to look at.
The poster that mentioned the CSA.The DWP are at Vosa check points on multi agency checks. They ask your national insurance number or see your pay slip.Failing that name and date of birth to see if any arrears of not been paid.It then comes out the wages that the employer by law has to oblige in paying.

Now I’ve got 2 young kids I would never do it. You don’t get those years back and there’s so much to miss out on as they are growing up.
I remember saying something similar to a lad I worked with, who funnily enough, is a member on here, but rarely posts, as he left the company we both worked for to go tramping at the big green machine when his missus was expecting their first. (He’s still there.) He chaperoned me after I got my class 1 in the 90’s and I had 2 daughters under 5.
I happened to mention to him that it’s all well and good being down the road, but crap when your at the other end of the phone with the wife, and then she tells you that your kid has done this for the first time, and your kid has done that for the first time, and those are the things that, as a new parent you want to be part of.
Ken.
I only get at the worst 2 days a month of my lovely ladies pmt, and not all week…
So the wife sat me down tonight and told me shes happy for me to go “tramping” after my sons first birthday, as she knows distance work is what i want to do and provide a good lifestyle for my boys and her.
Found a keeper here well after 8 years i hope so haha
If anybody that really tramps says it’s just a job he,s fooling himself tramping is a lifestyle and if you do it you will know what I’m saying there’s no grey area if you love it you love it and if you hate it you’ll always hate it…
Would love to get back tramping but don’t think the girlfriend would like it - just about tolerates nights…
But I am going onto days soon though
Started lorry driving full time in June this year, straight into tramping. Absolutely love it!
Kids are 19,17,10 and 9, wife understands totally and is happy knowing i’m happy at work. For me each day is a new adventure (as is sleeping in the cab) company leave me alone to get on with the job, home each weekend unless i want to work overtime.
Getting to see a lot more of this lovely country as well…love it

Congratulations on the baby.Thanks buddy
Yeah congrats mate, that will be me next May, my 1st child and I can’t wait
I don’t know if I’ll change my mind on tramping after the baby is born as I have done it since I passed my Class 1 in 04 and I love it.
As I have said before it gets into your blood and is a way of life.
Hiya if you like the night out scene you’d have been like a kid in a sweet shop in the 70’s and 80’s.
the only dodgy placeses was Liverpool and Glasgow. you never had to worry about your diesel going missing,
there was cafe’s and somewhere to park every 20 miles. plenty of return loads…The bad side was the lorries.
no sleepers unless you was the bosses pet. most towns you could park in the centre carpark. no travelers
no height barriers and not many weight restrictions, no yellow lines. ive seen half a dozen lorries parked
out side a cafe in some main street of a town or city. Bad side was the lorries(thats not a repost lorries keep
coming up)there was a lot of hand ball, that was the norn so you just got on with it.
