What makes you tramp

What is it that makes you want to tramp?

Is it the lack of jobs in your area making you have the nights out or the love for the job?

Or even worse trouble at home?

I keep looking at jobs with nights out but as i have a 2year old and a 3day old baby i wont be doing anything just yet but i know its something i want to do.

As it is i dont really see my boy till the weekend unless hes up late or i finsh early so family life is good… working 50 plus hours a week coming home bath, food, bed repeat.

I don’t tramp any more, but when I first did it, you could still park in town centres throughout the UK and see a bit of the country once you’d parked up for the night. I used to tramp around Scotland and knew some fantastic places to park … on the dockside at Arbroath, overlooking the Moray Firth as the sun went down at Banff, in the middle of the most fantastic scenery at Pitlochry, and all within reach of some great pubs. It sometimes felt like I should be paying the company to do a job like that!
Then later on, I tramped because I was working 75 miles from home and often sleeping in the cab (unpaid) in the yard to save money on petrol. I realised that if I was going to sleep in the cab I might as well get paid for it, and negotiated with the gaffer than I’d tramp, and get paid for nights spent in the yard. Then we moved into a new house, I realised I could barely remember what my other half looked like and I stopped tramping and got a job on nights instead so I could spend more time at home. But just sometimes, I still miss the tramping.

Congratulations on the baby.

Yeah congrats mate, that will be me next May, my 1st child and I can’t wait  I don’t know if I’ll change my mind on tramping after the baby is born as I have done it since I passed my Class 1 in 04 and I love it.
As I have said before it gets into your blood and is a way of life.

Zero jobs at home, local opencasts have shut, leaving 700 men looking for work. Like my own company, pay is good, left to do your own thing all week ( i leave on day 1 and phone never rings till 5 days later as long as the work is done).
Did i mention i like my own company?
I honestly couldn’t have a more suited job.

I tramp cos the wife is a big fat ugly git… but don’t tell her I told you that lol …

Nothing more satisfying than love balls up the arse and seat set to maximum bounce eh!

A sense of adventure and a childhood dream. That’s it really.

pretty much sums it up for me aswell luke.

Im thinking by the end of next year a few nights aweek ill be doing, extra income would’nt go a miss aswell.

For me it is the extra in the pay packet at the end of every week, plus the fact that I wouldn’t be able to earn anywhere near what I earn tramping working local.

Gave up a 9 to 5 job in an office roughly 3 miles away from home to go tramping.

I am very lucky and have a wife that is understanding and works harder than I do with 5 under 10s to contend with (all ours)

Bloody hell I’d be bottling what ever you’ve got and selling it on the shelfs for folk that can’t do the job!

I’ve never full on tramped but used to do nights out when my older kids were little. Gave it up years ago though. Now I’ve got 2 young kids I would never do it. You don’t get those years back and there’s so much to miss out on as they are growing up.
I wouldn’t want the drop in money either.

Make sure you show her this post as she’s changing the dressing on your foot!

I tramp because work dictates that I spend a lot of the time in Europe, so there.

Same sort of thing, I used to tramp when kids were small and missed so much of their growing up( first step, laughing at bed time, first school play, first day at school) so gave it up and went on nights.

The wife then went to uni to be a mid wife so i would work till 6am take the kids to school at 9am… sleep till 2pm then pick them up feed them then off to work. 4 years on 5 hrs sleep a night
Anyway, kids have grown now and i have always missed the tramping so i am starting a new job next week tramping again.

I take it the services still have showers in them ■■? been about 8 or 9 years since i tramped, lookin forward to it.
