I’m sure the NHS could do better with the money it already has.
Based on what? Why are you “sure”?
Is the NHS a 100% perfect entity? Of course nothing is, but, in the real world as opposed to some politicians ■■■■■■■■■ where all they have to do is say “be more efficient”, what should be happening?
Most colleagues (warehouse, admin) allowed a day off but some will be called to work, however allowed to stop work for a while and watch live in the canteen or on their phones when the moment comes. Drivers, well - stuff isn’t going to get where it needs to be by itself though I’m not sure all van drivers will work as that will depend on whether the stores they deliver to will be open that day
Heard nothing yet, but if it’s a case of a bank holiday with pay as non compulsory but for the firm to decide at their discretion, then I’m a 101% sure knowing my lot, that it will sure as hell be a non pay day…I’d ride a weeks wages on it.
I don’t work Monday’s anyhow,.so I ain’t fussed.
I’m in Spain at the moment, as a republican I raised a drink in memory of a great leader but personally I’m happy to work the day. Will find out Saturday what our lot will be doing but I suspect that they will shut down for the day on full pay.

And there lies the difference between working for a good company who looks after,.and values their drivers highly, …and a crap one that doesn’t
It makes ALL the difference.

Yes I have to admit they do look after us. We have great terms and conditions and last month they introduced full sick pay up to 25 days per year. So if off with “flu” for 2 days then still get paid.
I’d hate to drag this post into a Brexit debate (please don’t Frangers me ole mucker) but ever since the EEs wfnt home our T&Cs went through the roof as they just cannot get staff to work here so they realised that they have to look after the staff they have!

Yep as I always say a firm gets more out of their drivers if they show them some worth and consideration, a reap.and sow situation.
And it’s also a reap and sow situation with the bad ones, but in a much different way. but they don’t seem to get it.
No need to.worry about Frangers rocking up btw, he only likes to comment (and share his collection of links ) on Brexit negativity.
Morrisons supermarkets have announced that their stores will close on Monday so expect Christmas style shopping Friday-Sunday as people stock up to see themselves through the closure

Yep, sure enough,.I was right.
Take a hol or a day’s unpaid.

Wether you get paid for the extra bank holiday will depend on what your contract states, IF it states that you get 20 days + bank holidays then you will be paid for the extra holiday, however if it states that you get 20 days + 8 bank holidays, or 28 days holiday as part of your contract then I doubt that they’re obligated to pay you the extra
I think you`re correct.
No obligation to pay you if you get the extra day off.

Just a regular day at our place (patients still need their dialysis supplies, hospitals still doing their stuff etc). Doesn’t affect me though as I only work Wednesday-Friday, and I’ll be on a fortnight’s holiday anyway.
Some NHS Trusts are cancelling operations, and other treatments due to this B.H.
Given the long waiting lists, they may be rescheduled many months later. opendemocracy.net/en/nhs-ca … k-holiday/
So honouring a funeral could cost lives? [emoji106]
I`m not sure the “Thumbs Up” is appropriate!
But it looks like operations, to treat painful knee and hip joints, will be postponed, and given the already pathetic under funding and long queues, those due for such, could be in pain for months while they wait. It isn`t that everyone waits one day longer, those due next Mon will need to be found new slots, or get tacked on the back of the list.
We know that early diagnosis is important for cancer and other treatments, delaying such will obviously have an effect.
We cant later say that Fred Bloggs did suffer, because of this, but Jo Smith didnt. We will probably say that some outcomes were worse.
Under funding?your clueless, wouldn’t matter if we gave NHS all the money in the world,it’s a broken, wasteful institution,on waiting lists? Currently agency’s are contracted to help, putting in staff and taking over theatres, more than twice the rates NHS staff get, plus travel, food, decent hotels,so much that many of my friends who usually work in Harley Street are on this gravy train now, don’t just follow the ‘underfunded’ tripe put out to try and secure even more money

Well, “if many of your friends who normally work in Harley St” are involved,
I guess I`ll just go back to listening to those people I know, who work in the NHS.
Are there bad financial choices being made in the NHS? Undoubtedly so. In any massive organisation it is inevitable that will be so.
And the over use of expensive agency workers is surely due to a lack of regular staff. Caused by?
Under funding of a regular and adequate work-force. One where there is enough slack to allow for upsndowns.
Not one where remote managers (politicians) search some sort of 100% efficient target.
Under-funding causes breakdowns in systems which then need expensive “fire-fighting” interventions.
My mate used to be a PCT manager(when he wasn’t on the sick…which weren’t very often)
Jacked it all in now,and started his own health care worker agency.
Absolutely raking it in.

Car owners scrimps and scrapes on proper maintenance, and end up with breakdowns.

Thanks lynchy for saying exactly what I CBA to.
It’s “surely due to” ineptitude and/or self serving.
To go back to the OP! [emoji6]
My regular Monday off has been moved to midweek and I’m now working BHM due to megalomaniac company wanting to express they’re deeply saddened by the loss and wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy while taking this opportunity to make as much money as possible but Please be assured that we will act with sensitivity… Looking forward to being sensitively told I can’t wait in my cab to privately grieve.
