What is your place doing about Monday?

Interested to know what’s happening around the industry regarding the funeral day on Monday?

Obviously a lot of publicity about shops and such “doing the right thing” and “allowing colleagues to share in a moment of history” and that, but the reality is we work behind the scenes so I winder how it will work for us.

For me I have no clue as yet, just rumour that we’re working as normal in distribution even though the stores are shut… which then makes me wonder just how shut the stores are… but then we might get clarity otherwise yet so who knows…

We’re officially shut…but,we’ll still need staff in to prepare Tuesdays loads.

Day off result

It appears that cows don’t really care. They won’t stop making milk, so somebody has to move it…

all our stores…170 or so…are closed for the day :astonished: i presume the Sunday night loading staff will be in Monday night…and we’ll probably deliver Tues-Sat.

when we had the high wind and storms several of the expresses i went to after had suffered serious damage and couldnt be open even the office knew but we still had to deliver to them and then bring the stuff back to be moaned at by the office bods for bring it back.

I’ve just received my weekly allocation of shifts, and atm I’m not working Monday. Tbh I suspect that no one has a clue what is happening, especially those of us at the bottom of the pile

we are working

no work, not been told if its paid holiday or are being forced to take unpaid leave.

We don’t work bank holidays or weekends and we get the whole of Christmas till new year off

Day off…

Schools in Scotland are closing, was in Aldi and its closed on Monday. Looks like essential workers only.

Just a regular day at our place (patients still need their dialysis supplies, hospitals still doing their stuff etc). Doesn’t affect me though as I only work Wednesday-Friday, and I’ll be on a fortnight’s holiday anyway.

Mildly miffed that I don’t get an extra day off.

Probably take advantage of the fact that a large portion of the population will be watching proceedings on the TV and go for a bike ride on (almost) deserted roads

Wether you get paid for the extra bank holiday will depend on what your contract states, IF it states that you get 20 days + bank holidays then you will be paid for the extra holiday, however if it states that you get 20 days + 8 bank holidays, or 28 days holiday as part of your contract then I doubt that they’re obligated to pay you the extra

If we are rostered to be in, we are in. Whether there is enough work is another question.

I think you`re correct.

Some NHS Trusts are cancelling operations, and other treatments due to this B.H.
Given the long waiting lists, they may be rescheduled many months later.

Regular day off for me. I have not heard anything so I expect it will be ignored (we get 28 days, no bank holidays).

So honouring a funeral could cost lives? [emoji106]

I`m not sure the “Thumbs Up” is appropriate!

But it looks like operations, to treat painful knee and hip joints, will be postponed, and given the already pathetic under funding and long queues, those due for such, could be in pain for months while they wait. It isn`t that everyone waits one day longer, those due next Mon will need to be found new slots, or get tacked on the back of the list.

We know that early diagnosis is important for cancer and other treatments, delaying such will obviously have an effect.
We cant later say that Fred Bloggs did suffer, because of this, but Jo Smith didnt. We will probably say that some outcomes were worse.

I thought you would recognise the irony?

and given the already pathetic under funding

I don’t agree. Like you said elsewhere spending a trillion on one operation is unreasonable, I’m sure the NHS could do better with the money it already has.
I support the bank holiday, it’s just that some consequences are unfortunate. It’s all very well for a shop to close, but is it appropriate to prolong pain and suffering and increase the risk of earlier death for this reason.
It’s a Bank holiday, so the banks should close.
