What is wrong with drivers nowadays?

:open_mouth: Have I missed something here or what?
It’s just that a certain member on this thread appears to be getting a bit of disproportionate stick for a light hearted comment.

I dont particularly care if people i dont know die or suffer .

What winds me up is drivers not securing their children properly .

Whether its mothers holding babies in their arms or having 5 unrestrained kids in back seat .

Short sharp shock in prison seems more readonable thañ 3 points or a fine .

+1

I wont wear a belt in a lorry-my mate had a bad crash in the tip coming down the haul road last year, lost control and hit another lorry coming up(yeah I know ■■■■ poor driver etc, but I know the tip in question and it was an accident waiting to happen) both vehicles were Volvo fmx’s (my mate hit the other one amidships) and were both from the same company :open_mouth:
he dived across the cab when he knew the collision was imminent-it pinned the steering wheel to the seat and smashed the front right hand corner of the cab to bits.the tacho said that the impact was 16 mph-it literally smashed it to pieces-ive just texted him and asked for the pics,he is trying to send them to me,but he said he wont ever wear a belt in a lorry and neither will I…
if you hit something at 56 mph -ie another lorry then you’re dead ,simple as.

Ha, guys who don’t wear belts always seem to have a story to justify why they don’t!

Anyone know where insurance companies stand these days on payouts to people who weren’t wearing belts?

No belt, no cover.

albion1971:
It has been proved time and time again that seatbelts do more good than harm 99% of the time.

Would you care to quote some peer reviewed research which demonstrates that claim?

So he had time to get out of the driver’s seat, but not to take any evasive action?

Does every collision fall into the categories of either “able to jump clear” or “certain death” with nothing in between?

Not quite what you were looking for, but still relevant…

I’ve think I’ve got the wrong end of the stick from albion’s post, I lost him somewhere in the waffle about motorbike helmets and forgot what his his point was.

So I was agreeing with what he actually said but read it wrongly.

if they were able too prove you werent wearing one they i would assume your claim would be refused if you didnt have a valid reason ie doctors certifacate, doing door too door delivers where you travel no further than 100 yards too each drop, or you were reversing the whole 350 mile journey

sorry I meant hit a stationary lorry or bridge etc

he couldn’t take evasive action as he was sliding out of control on a steep muddy hill on the landfill site-no I don’t know how he managed to lose control either!!

Justify/reason
Potato/potatoe

My point was what about all the other circumstances where a seatbelt would save you or reduce the injuries.

Hitting a solid object at speed may well kill you either way, but I’d prefer to not get thrown around in the cab in the many other situations that may occur.

got both sides of a story, yes i do wear my seat belt, but some years ago i was in the back of a car, and no i didnt have my seat belt on :open_mouth: and we had a bad crash, we rolled and hit a tree, i manged to lay down on the back seat as i could see what was coming, if i had have had my seat belt on i would have died due to the inpacked of the tree and where i would have been sat

I’m not trying to ‘troll’. I’m merely speaking my mind.
