What is old school

A wire, a crocodile clip and a needle…worked on a Scania 112/113 just as well Harry

Absolutely, that is “old school”. Also, “old school” is knowing to tuck a 100 franc note into your passport before handing it over to Mr French Policeman if stopped while “running on the wire”. Happy days!

Or just remove fuse number 21

Yea, pull the fuse, wind the clock forwards and backwards etc :stuck_out_tongue:

Once got pulled early 90s on East Lancs in a 143 on ‘break’ (intent to write wrong mode on back of card) with fuse out.
My little girl was with me I had her ‘educated’ which fuse to take out and put back in when I said. (bad parent  )
Copper could not understand when he saw fuse intact, he knew his stuff as he started to remove fuse board with a screwdriver, and was baffled when things looked ok, never suspecting the innocent looking little girl looking up at him.
I just told him that tacho had just stopped half an hour ago, he knew I was hooky but could prove nothing. and went off a bit miffed.

I never ever considered running bent, even if I did fill my logbook out at the end of the week
Maximum fine for failing to make an entry was back in the day £25, falsifying an entry was one hell of a lot more …

Only ever done a year on logbooks, then tachos came out.
All this ‘running bent’ stuff sounds shocking going by today’s standards, but it was just what you done then.
Maybe the own account operator’s drivers were the exception, but it was endemic in general haulage.

You’re looking more and more like:

It’s a wonder you haven’t set up a children’s home for your ■■■■■■■? :open_mouth:

Hmmm you’ve got me thinking now…along the lines of pimping them out. :bulb:
This could be my road to early retirement, just sit back and live off the proceeds.
Think I would look better dressed as a 70s Huggy (Starsky and Hutch) Bear than Fagan, it’s more fitting with my cool sense of style.

Pimping us out? You starting an agency? What is the Ltd pay?

Wow these ideas are great,…Agency, just think what I could cream off, …the power I would have :sunglasses: , and if any of you ■■■■■■ me off during the Christmas rush, ('group parties  etc) there would be no work until March for you.
Looking now for a supplier for single ‘big shoe’ , carrier bags with my name on, and earpieces, all supplied my me …at a discount.

Looks like we’ve hijacked this thread, :unamused:  so to get back to it.

An Old School driver will more often than not help a newbie, from advice to guiding a reverse.
Most will still flash you in, not as a implication you don’t know where your trailer doors are, but to say they are comfortable with the space you leave.
If you don’t leave enough space most (especially me :smiling_imp: ) will get ■■■■ irate about it, harking back to the days when drivers never done this (old school days iyl)
Most will never cut in on an overtake, and not give a ■■■■ if not flashed, but instead will over compensate for space before pulling back in if not flashed in.
Most o/s drivers will help you fold sheets if on a flat, flash you out at a junction, pull over for you when you are on a slip entering a Mway, in fact generally just show consideration and empathy, reason being is that was just what we all done once over, as a matter of course and routine.

However as in any walk of life you will always get the exception in the form of a d/head, and the old school d/heads are the worst and should know better. :bulb:

Found it nigh on impossible to tie a dolly while wearing gloves (even if I had any!) and during the winter the sides of my hands were split and as sore as hell !

me too was impossible - used to laugh at the lack of hair on the sides where they were rubbed off.
