What is good repute?

a jolly good chap
a sport
bloke you’d like to have next to you in a trench
someone you’d trust with your wife, dog, car, power tools
always stands his round

You know repute is just short for reputation?

Someone who turns a blind eye to a Traffic Commissioner’s own ■■■■ poor driving standards.

A poster who doesn’t use such cheap shots at advertising would get my vote.

I’ve removed several of your adverts for breach of forum rules, but this one is such a transparent effort that I’m leaving it here for posters to laugh at. :grimacing:

:bulb: Repute (or reputation) also applies to posters on this forum, so I’d offer you the tip that the advertising ice that you’re standing on right now is looking rather thin from here.

Well it appears the OP might be a bit of a blaggard and bounder,

+2…that about sums it up along with the apparent double standards that abound here…

In this week’s Commercial Motor, the guy that grassed her up has lost his Operators Licence.

Over that incident or for something else unrelated?

Unrelated or not, it will sure as hell be because of that incident in reality.
They have to keep ‘The Plebs’ in their place, you should know that.

While I agree with the general sentiment, it would surely be a serious abuse of a TC’s authority to remove an operators licence based on anything other than the holder’s performance in operating vehicles?

^^^^
You are right in ‘Official terms’ but when you are up against The Establishment, coupled with ‘The Old Boy’s network’ :imp: …people like you, me, and the operator in question does not have a chance in hell in the real world.

Pretty much the main reason the government managed to end the fuel protests was by having the TCs state that anyone participating was considered to have lost their repute.

Reading round the operator involved it sounded like he was ruffling feathers at the council by competing against their approved routes.

Not that long ago, a big national bus operator in a big city used to get tipped off when VOSA was going to do an inspection so they could make sure that the depot was filled only with ok buses and even then they couldn’t find enough so had to get outside help patching them up. It seemed like this arrangement was basically arrived at because their would be uproar if there were bus routes cancelled in the city due to a huge number of prohibitions and the VOSA examiners not being happy to turn a blind eye to defects so this arrangement was basically cooked up.

Bit like that saying with bank loans. If you operate a few buses and some have defects then you’ve got problems if you operate a few thousand buses and some have defects then VOSA’s got a problem.
