What Is A Crap Wage?

I nearly took a job at £7.50 per hour, it would have given me more take home per week than I’m on where I am now and more disposable Money due to it being a tramping job.
I still would and wish I did. Hourly rate isn’t everything. Mine probably isn’t bad most days but I’m salaried, so if the ■■■■ hits the fan it drops.

That is good for up here (NE) a couple of company’s don’t pay more than £7 for class 1 here £6.60/£6.70 p/h

Sweet jesus. The cleaner mopping the toilets at the MSA we stop at isnt doing much worse. They arent in charge of 44 tons on the road and they certainly didnt pay £2k for their stripes.Sad state of affairs.

That’s why it’s going to get worse = DCPC! :open_mouth: :unamused: :smiling_imp: :imp: Rumu’s, Bulgars and hungarocamions will drive it lower! :bulb: :bulb: How did that song go? Just to think that a White, working class male is a minority in his own country? Tut tut tut! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:

are you actually aware that it was Enoch Powell himself that opened the doors for the immigrants to come here in the first place?

somehow, i think not :unamused:

Double post

with what?

your previous post on this thread was over two hours earlier :open_mouth:

A good wage is what your happy with! If its as with Stobarts a ■■■■ poor hourly rate with top up tax free bonus’s on top then that’s a good rate when your working! It’s a bummer when your on holiday though unless you still bank the daily bonus’s!
My minimum on hourly £10 an hour! At least till the Bulgies and Rumos arrive in 2014!
I wonder how much the Dcpc is for 7 hours in Romania/Bulgaria compared to UK or the rest of the EU?
My guess is it is a lot cheaper! Unfair competition in my view! :unamused:

Makes me smile the amount of folk who would stack shelves/flip burgers/clean toilets for £7.00 p/h, rather than drive a truck for the same hourly rate…

Where can you get one of those jobs that’s gonna give you more than 40 hours a week ■■ I for one couldn’t live on a shelf stacker wages of 40 hrs x £7.00…

So a big decision…easier (allegedly) job for £280 gross, or drive an artic for £600 gross. ■■?

This is just my opinion, and I aint really bothered if you dont like it.

Oh and £7.00 p/h for Class 1 aint unheard of in the midlands.

Deined the oppurtunity to work at
Ceva VW contract class 1 on agency at £8.50
travelling from Bedworth

apparently long term job

Trouble is, based on your reasoning, a professional in anything should be happy to accept a low wage provided they can get the hours in to boost it… :unamused:

It isn’t the gross total amount earned but the fact that someone in charge of an artic can be valued as no more important per hour than a toilet cleaner that drivers who can see further than the end of their nose are annoyed at!!

stobrats in conjunction with tosco pegged the market to shelf stackers wages — the two firms are a huge part of where i live that everyone else just follows their lead with regards to wages…

most firms wages are around £7/8 p/h ---- also as of april 2013 if you’re earning that bit less then you won’t pay any tax for the first £9,500 (i think i’m right) you earn year so it sort of sorts itself out.

the wages are still too low given the responsibilties that go with the job :imp: :imp:

AS above the previous post

We used to have a cleaner for two mornings a week, but when her pay went up to £12.50 per hour, she had to go!
So yes, £7.50 is crap for a driver.

with a fear of being slated here i personally wouldent work for less than £9 an hour i think imm worth at least that i also think if drivers where not prepared to work for low wages then firms would have to pay proper hourly rates but thats just my thoughts now i better duck !

I don’t think that’s unreasonable, I’d say £8.50 roughly but then on agency I get fuel allowance etc which makes up for it.
I’m in two minds whether to apply for a job that would mean buying a second car that would cost about £35 per week to get there and back. The advert says £23800-£26000 per year, 45 hours per week average.

I’m not sure about thier maths. £7.50 an hour, 45 hrs a week, 52 weeks a yea = 17550 ■■?
23800 = £10.17 an hr for a 45hr week. Which I don’t think is that bad as a day rate, home every night etc etc

+1^^

I think a crap wage is what you can’t live on. I’m salaried and get £25k per year regardless whether I do 30 or 70 hours ( I average 52 to 56 hours). Holidays etc are the same it is defo salary. nights out are extra and paid accordingly! I don’t know what the hourly wag equates to but the work is easy and I’n not under pressure. usually am or pm delivery/collections.

I worked for £7.00 p/h once. I think it was in 1998 !
As an ex employer I found that if you pay under the going rate you get drivers that smash the wagon up, turn up late or don’t show at all, grief customers, P155 the bunk etc. and then tell you that the wagon you laid out £80k for is SH 1T !!! If they pay £7 p/h the employers deserve all they get.

Hippo, they were two separate jobs. The £7.50 ph one was a 7.5t in Tewkesbury. The other one was a class 2 job. £7.50 might sound good for some but not when I factor in travelling. For some reason under umbrella rules you can’t get travelling money if under £8 ph.

I blame Laura.

To which with all my smilies, was taking the preverbal! I.E BIG MISTAKE! too little , too late like this shower and all before it! :open_mouth: :unamused: :grimacing: I drive a truck, therefore I must be thick! :sunglasses:

Long out of the game myself, but surely it all depends on what type of work and rates the truck is involved with? A driver working for a tipper firm etc who’s rates are fixed by the quarries etc is hardly likely to get paid the same wage as someone doing top rated work where the haulier can call the shots as the company could not afford it, but he/she may be perfectly happy with that as they can manage OK. You can hardly compare a part time cleaner’s rate of pay, that will ALWAYS be more as the hours to earn are considerably less.

Pete.

Last month 7 in felixstowe was looking for a driver, class 1 and the wage was £6.80, bet a 'ski ■■■■ took that job. :stuck_out_tongue:
