What happened?

I don’t care less about Stobarts one way or the other they don’t bother me,(one of these days it will all go belly up methinks!)but some poor sod of a driver has been exposed as a bit of a bellend, can any of us say I’ve never made an “error of judgement”

There’s an error of judgment and then there’s being a total [zb], anyone who thinks in this current weather that turning your artic there wont pose a problem really shouldn’t be driving artics. :unamused:

That isn’t just this week, the photo has been doing the rounds for a few weeks.

Fatboy slimslow:
Can’t blow it up properly but if its 4.4 metres? :open_mouth: CHIPLINERS are bigger than that! :unamused: I hope it’s not OUR HAPPYSACK? yes, and he’s breaking the law, :unamused: APPROACHING A ROUND PROHIBITIVE SIGN! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: driver " is paul Taylor there please ? " :open_mouth:
" speaking ! " :unamused:
Driver " we’ve got a problem, CHELFORD! :bulb: "
" what’s up drive? " :sunglasses:
" we’ll just have to blag it, I missed the turning for birtles farm on the right by 200 metres and there’s a low bridge in the way ! "
No probs replys paul
" I need recovering though, I’ve ditched it! "
" WHAT? " exclaims paul
Well I just thought I’d do a u turn paul, and the grass gave way! :open_mouth: " no probs " says paul " you’re polish, :open_mouth: just come back to CHELFORD, we’ll give you a Volvo to wreck instead! " :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing:
My money’s on Wayne or jimmy! :sunglasses:

Just cos theres smilies doesn’t mean you have to use them all. :unamused:

No need to fret Mr slimslow, it weren’t me! Promise!

i would have ■■■■■■ that.

viz

Aaaarh bless!!!

your all missing the big NO NO H’s crossed the solid white line which is there due to the curvature of the road and pos the posted speed of the road

Hiya… so you screw the rig round BUT always keep the drive wheels on the black stuff…muppet

Could you have span it round on that road though? (only have my class 2 so haven’t a clue about driving artics)

No as his trailer is longer as the road is wide a general rule of thum if it wider then the length of trailer your safe if not you a muppet

So, the company have a few options.

  1. Gross Misconduct, bringing the company into disrepute

  2. Final Written Warning

  3. Verbal Warning.

Companies do need to follow their own disciplinary procedures lest the driver try and sue for unfair dismissal. However, if the driver has been in the position less than x months then they could have something in place to sack him outright.

Surely this is a good reason to carry a truckers atlas with height and weights marked on it or a SatNav that recognises and reroutes based on bridge and/or weight limits.

Yes, I have been in that position before… I ended up reversing back half a mile on hazards to find somewhere to turn around. I knew the bridge was there but was given bad information on where to find a particular delivery point… These things happen to us drivers, and those that don’t think it does or that every driver is tool because they make a mistake are sadly deluded. We all make mistakes, and the newer or more inexperienced we are, the more we are likely to make.

I personally wouldn’t have tried to spin it on that road as I don’t think it’s wide enough. I also wouldn’t have taken a truck on grass unless I knew it was hard enough or strong enough to take the weight of the vehicle…

make the railway companies take all the bridges to 16 foot
most of the bridges aint doing nothing but acting as cycle paths anyway.

Make all trucks run at 4.00 metres or under!

^^^^^^^^^^ +1!

Let he is without sin…

He’d of made it if he hadn’t lost traction on the grass, something I have done in the past and had to get towed off by a wrecker. Bit of a div not planning his route for bridges though.

You need 3 good size lanes and clear space for your tail sweep to turn a 16.5metre artic. Take off your susies aswell  You can just about turn on a 2 lane motorway with a hard shoulder with your tail sweep over the grass.

greggy:
He is also breaking the law.

Who cares the law? If he needs to do this, he will do this. I will do the same myself.

Thats not the answer as you will still get bell ends trying to fit under 3 Meter bridges.

Saw one of Stobarts get stuck coming of J19 on the M5 probably going to Portbury but went on the A469 to Portishead and tried to do a U turn and got stuck on the verge.

Lots of drivers seem to panic then do daft things, he won’t do it again he will learn from it, everyone makes mistakes it’s human nature, the mark of a good driver is how he reacts to such situations.

You don’t get that much space at some supermaret deliveries but they seem to manage it.

I feel sorry for the driver in the pic, no one knows how he ended up there. The fact is he did, sure its dumb to try to turn around across solid whites/on such a narrow road/on a bend . Whats his alternative though given he is where he is? Reverse back or stop thus making everyone else cross the solid white lines ? He’s in a no win situation.
I was recently sent to Polytech Holdings in Bromyard, i’m sure there’ll be someone here who knows it. I was given directions. As you come into Bromyard you come to a shop/garage turn right then chippy on left turn there and it leads you into it What could go wrong? I stopped at the shop/garage and went in and asked the woman. She told me a different way, and no way looked good for me. I by passed her garage only to find another seperate shop and garage a bit further up, that didn’t look good either. I carried on, big mistake. I’m now miles past Bromyard, i did manage a u turn on the A44 with the aid of a bus stop, of course i could of carried on all afternoon and went to Leominster to turn around, i didn’t fancy that as i’m on job and knock.
I got back to Bromyard and after a faff about i found it. Its easy now i know where it is. I did get stuck in the centre of Bromyard where the shops are but thats a story in itself. Point is even with the best intentions and directions you can come unstuck.

Well said Mike, there could be many reasons how the driver ended up there. I’m sure all of us at one stage in our driving careers we have made an honest mistake, been given wrong directions, taken a wrong turn ect… Don’t make him a bad driver and have his pic posted all over the net for amusement.

back the last third of the trailer onto the grass and spin it round then keeping the unit on the tarmac.
