.
Let’s hope you won’t need the agency one day. There blokes, like you, who want to earn a living.
Some people might want to earn a few extra quid over the holiday period. Some people might want to work over Xmas to keep busy as they might of had lost a loved one before hand and want to keep busy. You never know
Im just waiting to see if ive got any shifts coming in over the 24th,25th,26th and 30th,31st and 1st
If offered i will be out working just another day in paradise
Working on Livehaul we work most of Christmas as normal shift as the chickens won’t stop growing That said we have got an overtime shift on Sunday 29th and I’m in as it’s double time so well worth doing 12hrs
I don’t like working Xmas, I feel it’s family time
I’ll work new year no worries
But if anyone DOES want to work this has zero effect on me so I’ll leave em to it
onhristmas eve night.with 50 pound extra.
I think a guy with no family or going through a divorce might prefer to work during Christmas rather than stay at home alone.

Exactly my point I made.

this was me 4 years 2010. split from wife and coming up to Christmas tells me she’s off down south to her parents for Christmas, taking our daughter. two days later boss rang me asking if I would work over Christmas running from Slovakia to Middlesboro. leave two days before Christmas, have truck kitted for ADR at depot in koln then basically working for 5 weeks back and forth.
I agreed to do the job as I didn’t want to be spending Christmas without my girl and rather than sit at home stewing it over I would be working.
point I am making dozy is everyone has different circumstances. if people want to work, so what. it wont effect you
Working Boxing day and new years day night… why would I turn down double time shifts when I can have another day off?
I was offered a new years eve night shift by a national agency. I asked how much, they said it’s not a bank holiday so it’s standard pay… The conversation ended there.
Tube drivers are getting £350 extra for working Boxing Day this year.

I reckon all non-Christians should be forced to work for normal pay on Christmas day, to show solidarity with their lack of convictions…![]()
So that’ll be most of us then going to work then.
Except maybe many of those who’ve come from places like Poland or the Caribbean or parts of Africa.
worked boxing day and new years day evening for the past 8 years. nice little earner. can’t see the problem its just another day at the end of it.

Your reply should have been; “No thanks you boss, I’d rather not but thank you for offering me the chance to earn some extra cash.”As it is thank you for thinking of all the agency workers struggling to make ends meet trying to live off the crumbs which fall from the employed drivers’ table. Not all have the luxury of being able to afford to refuse a day’s work and if that day’s work should pay half a week’s wages all the better. Personally I booked Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing day off back in November but thank you for thinking of me all the same.
Merry Christmas, just about to start a Saturday Night shift.
I think it’s him acting the hard man behind a screen giving it large, each to there own. We all know he said what you said and went home. We all know he shakes when he sees a man bigger them him
I’m in Xmas eve, always do…paid 9.5hrs @ double time which is nice as it’s a normal night for us but I’m the only one in (always like that) and will only do about 7hrs. Doing that means I get boxing night off for the family get together when the others gotta go in as again, that is a normal night as well. However, they asked for a ‘cover’ driver as some will obviously pull a fast one and not turn up because they are suddenly ill! Providing I don’t get a call to go in and end up sitting on me arris, I’ll get £200…gaffers agreement so I won’t argue! If I do get called in, it’s the 200 + my normal rate x 9.5hrs…I’m a greedy effer and it pays for the 2 holidays next year. Also working NYE and covering again at same rate. And yes, I work every other B/H throughout the year, all paid 9.5 @ x2. Not a big fan of Xmas anyway and the Mrs don’t mind plus, working for the NHS (mental health) she’s working Xmas day anyway

Years ago I was on a TNT contract collecting papers from the printers for the wholesalers, which required Xmas working as we where on a 4 on 2 off rota I had to work Xmas day night into Boxing day.(Triple time)
Silly me thought thats OK i`ll be off next Xmas,WRONG the next year was a leap year which fetched me back on again.
The only night the contract closed was Xmas Eve,
Would it be wise for me not to mention that when i was freelancing for a west country haulier doing exactly this, I’d get £500 for the Christmas into boxing day run?
The kids were usually at their mums Christmas week and mine New Years, so the money was there to be made, but if the kids were at mine Christmas week it was a no rainer - sorry brainer

Once the kids are grown up, and all there is left is to stuff your face with food, fill your bellys with booze, then why not work 2 days for a weeks pay, madness not to, and i certainly would, but going to one of my daughters for xmas day ( and **were still cooking the big bird** ) and out for new years eve, but if they wasnt booked , i would work anyday, but i
m only saying that cos i`m retired, and bored [zb].
That’s no way to talk about your daughter…
