What driver in there right mind would work o/t over Xmas

Got asked if I’d work some o/t over Xmas as there short of drivers( there not just don’t want to pay agency rates), well you can imagine the reply ,zb off :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ring the zb agency up,them zb ears will do anything for a pound.
So seriously,is there any regular drivers who work o/t over Xmas :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :frowning: :frowning: ,by that I mean a extra shift/ two not a 12 /13/14 hr shift instead of 8/10 hrs
:frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: .

Personally, I prefer the time off. But I don’t see why it’s a problem if people do want to work.

Some people hate xmas as if it was satan himself. The companies have got wise to this. Fellah who works nights where I fill up has to work xmas day, but only gets double time … and only gets double time after midnight when his shift starts at 8pm. there are many worse off than us, trust me

Bah fricken humbug

Sounds like another company that needs to replace staff with agency.

Trouble is some of us kneel down and say “please soddamise me up the ■■■■ and thankyou boss for giving me a job that pays £5 a week more than the dole”

I do know that if I took a job where I knew from the start that I’d be expected to work over Christmas along with everyone else, I wouldn’t moan and ■■■■■ and try and wriggle out of it when it came around.

Nor me… id only last while october.

It’s just the way things are going, remember when shops shut on Sundays, pubs closed at 3 & opened at 6, places shut over all the Easter holiday! Once the first place does it the rest will follow. Spend anytime in the USA & you will find their shops open every day of the year, it won’t belong until it’s the norm here.
If you’re not religious or don’t have young kids what’s the problem? Me, I’ve never bothered with new year & have worked plenty new years Eve’s & days.

If it’s just an extra shift over Xmas then sure I would why not if I could.

I offered this year and was told that everything was covered so maybe I’m the one your looking for that isn’t in their right mind!!

I’m not religious. I just don’t think there’s such a thing as “too much holiday”.

I’d like the 25th and 26th off. After that I’m not pushed and definitely don’t care about new year. I can get a week in the sun in February for working over Christmas. Why not?

I think the op is very narrow minded, just because you don’t want to work Christmas and probably for very good reasons if you have children or want to go out on the lash with your mates, but some people don’t have children, or they live on thier own and don’t really look forward to the invites from well meaning people who feel they mustn’t be own their own and must celebrate.

For some of those people working Christmas Day might seem a good alternative, especially if the price is right.

There is some serious money to be made at this time of the year, my mate works repairing the railways, he does his fair share of overtime, so when the cream rates come up he gets offered first. He’s gonna earn £4k extra for working around London from today until 06/01/14 plus his usual salary of about £400pw, he has no kids, no Mrs and lives with his parents (he’s only 21) why turn down a chance like that?

I’ve heard rates of a trip to Orleans paying £130 per day plus £500 to ship out 24th and tip 26th.
Young free and single why not? £1000 for 4 days?

Spare a thought for all the staff working in the NHS, the emergency services, the breakdown services, train drivers, utility services workers, power station workers, … any I’ve missed. I worked as a psychiatric nurse for thirteen years in the NHS and routinely worked over the Christmas and New Year. We didn’t get O/T or double time. It was part of our job and we just got on with it and made sure our patients had an enjoyable time.

Never had the option to work Xmas Day but have worked Boxing Day on quite a few occasions, not being a big drinker I can have good time on Xmas Day and still be able to get up on Boxing Day, do a shift (for a premium rate) and be home in time for any further festivities. I don’t have kids and even over Xmas quite like a bit of time to myself away from the mayhem so I’m not that fussed.

If that makes me crazy, hey ho.

TBH, your mates lucky this year, the works very thin on the ground on the railways, no major blockades on at all.

I’m working xmas day and boxing day in London, then the following Saturday and thats it. If we worked the 13 days allowed from this saturday I would topline iro £6300 plus expenses. My little ones not keen on me working, but only because I won’t see her opening her presents. When I ask her if she’d rather have me at home on xmas morning or the week in Tenerife that its paying for? she picks the holiday. Plus I get out of seeing the outlaws

If I didn’t have children I’d do it. I ■■■■■■■ hate Christmas.
