What driver in there right mind would work o/t over Xmas

About 15 years ago they were desperate to get rental cars into Heathrow, so several of us worked for 6 hours Christmas morning for double time plus £350 bonus for turning in.

When they’re throwing money about like that it makes sense to pick it up.

dozy,is there any need for insults,i e fxxxxxs, you never know you may find yourself on an agency one day,if you have not been allready,i personally am working over christmas because i like many drivers need the money, judging by your comment one can only assume you are well off and do not need the money

Ched:
Trouble is some of us kneel down and say “please soddamise me up the ■■■■ and thankyou boss for giving me a job that pays £5 a week more than the dole”

Yes, some of you do. :unamused:

Once the kids are grown up, and all there is left is to stuff your face with food, fill your bellys with booze, then why not work 2 days for a weeks pay, madness not to, and i certainly would, but going to one of my daughters for xmas day ( and were still cooking the big bird ) and out for new years eve, but if they wasnt booked , i would work anyday, but im only saying that cos i`m retired, and bored ■■■■■■■■■

Everyman to there self , if someone wants to work let them there doing no harm

I’m working xmas day and boxing day pal - both with nights out.

Xmas is just a commercial enterprise invented to make money.

I will be commercially enterprise’d by boxing day night

There is some serious money to be made at this time of the year, my mate works repairing the railways, he does his fair share of overtime, so when the cream rates come up he gets offered first. He’s gonna earn £4k extra for working around London from today until 06/01/14 plus his usual salary of about £400pw, he has no kids, no Mrs and lives with his parents (he’s only 21) why turn down a chance like that?

TBH, your mates lucky this year, the works very thin on the ground on the railways, no major blockades on at all.

I’m working xmas day and boxing day in London, then the following Saturday and thats it. If we worked the 13 days allowed from this saturday I would topline iro £6300 plus expenses. My little ones not keen on me working, but only because I won’t see her opening her presents. When I ask her if she’d rather have me at home on xmas morning or the week in Tenerife that its paying for? she picks the holiday. Plus I get out of seeing the outlaws

Often find with xmas work on rail job, lots gets offered/promised then ‘knocked’ week before xmas, one big firm I know of won’t do jobs then, prefer to wait till after xmas,I’m on sat, mon, xmas eve/day/boxing day, roughly £4k,then new year, bearing in mind 12 years ago was £1k/shift

Rhythm Thief:
I’m not religious. I just don’t think there’s such a thing as “too much holiday”.

fortunately there are many people of the same mind which leaves a shift open to me for 3 bank holidays. 26th, 1st and 2nd are all higher rates of pay and i am working them all while other drivers are eating and drinking too much

Xmas has nothing to do with religion, although like religion - it’s made up gobbledygook

Wow, what a reaction, if I was needed I do it, if I was wanted I do it.

I run my own truck now, I have a little job a mile down the road that takes 15 minutes (I just have to pump water round the system) I do it every Monday, Wed & Friday guess what next Wednesday after we have all opened our presents I will go to work, i’ll be back within the hour. I’m on call 24 hours a day from 00.00hrs 20.12.13 to 07.00 7th.1st.14 and I only get paid if I’m called out, so no alcohol for a couple of weeks, I’d rather not do it but hey it’s not going to kill me.

Merry Christmas

i worked new years eve once, easy 5 hour shift dock and back trailor swap. couldnt believe it when the boss said nobody wanted to work. 160 bonus plus normal shift wage and i was in the pub for 11pm. if the money and hours are right then i’ll be there.

I reckon all non-Christians should be forced to work for normal pay on Christmas day, to show solidarity with their lack of convictions… :smiling_imp:

I got a phone call last night asking if I wanted to go in. £100 on top of your extra days pay incentive. Needless to say I went in lol but I wouldn’t do extra either side of Xmas day.

Cant see the problem if you want to work. I worked boxing day last year as i was on my own. Im off christmas day and boxing day an new years day but working the other days other than the sunday inbetween.
I find them days can be a bit tedious at home or visiting relatives. And im off away for a week in january.
We have one lorry out boxing day betwern 4 and 5 hours work paying two shifts plus the bank holiday pay.
Judgeing by one of the op other posts on xmas sickies he sounds like just the reason some employers embrace our friends from the east.

Its nice to have Xmas off,but some guys dont have a choice, unfortunately with some its how their rota falls. Years ago I was on a TNT contract collecting papers from the printers for the wholesalers, which required Xmas working as we where on a 4 on 2 off rota I had to work Xmas day night into Boxing day.(Triple time) Silly me thought thats OK ill be off next Xmas,WRONG the next year was a leap year which fetched me back on again.
The only night the contract closed was Xmas Eve,

Got asked if I’d work some o/t over Xmas as there short of drivers( there not just don’t want to pay agency rates), well you can imagine the reply ,zb off :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: :unamused: :exclamation: :exclamation: :exclamation: ring the zb agency up,them zb ears will do anything for a pound.
So seriously,is there any regular drivers who work o/t over Xmas :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :frowning: :frowning: ,by that I mean a extra shift/ two not a 12 /13/14 hr shift instead of 8/10 hrs
:frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: .

just a few questions for you DOZY

  1. Do you ever work OT

2.Do you ever work weekends

3.Do you ever work between the hours of 6pm and 6 am and I’m not talking nights I’m on about start befor 6am and finish after 6pm??

Your reply should have been; “No thanks you boss, I’d rather not but thank you for offering me the chance to earn some extra cash.”

As it is thank you for thinking of all the agency workers struggling to make ends meet trying to live off the crumbs which fall from the employed drivers’ table. Not all have the luxury of being able to afford to refuse a day’s work and if that day’s work should pay half a week’s wages all the better. Personally I booked Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing day off back in November but thank you for thinking of me all the same.

Merry Christmas, just about to start a Saturday Night shift.

I’d work christmas day if we were open. Especially if they offered treble time. More fussed about working NYE, which I am, as I usually go to house parties. Hope to be done by 6pm though.

No thank you for me, the work isn’t really there anyway & they wouldn’t pay us ‘good money’ to do it so it’s rammed with agency on the days in-between, lots of time off for me, lovely…
