What do you make of this then? Powerful Volvo

A friend of mine posted a couple of pics on Facebook of the truck he’s currently driving, left me a bit stumped! Anyone shed any light on it? (These are from the same truck by the way)

480 with the badges swopped round at a guess

someone suffering from the Small ■■■■■ Syndrome :unamused:

I did think it was very odd. I think he’s on with an agency. If you look closely at the ‘4’ there appears to be a mark as if someone has screwdrivered it off. There must indeed be a case of badge swapping. Didn’t even think of that

One of our drivers made a 460 into a 640. Always made me laugh, why would you want anyone thinking ‘thats a bit slow’, plus they never realise that Volvo never made these at those ratings!

Could be chipped up but i guess a bit of badge moving
There was a thread recently a firm bought two motors same but different power and the drivrr of the lower power one bought badges with the higher power on it.
Id think lower power badges would be more amusing when you fly past a never late in a V8 ididiot in your 380

Remove that tat and stencil nett £ per hour on the side, you’d know who to work for then, but more importantly who not.

I don’t get all this HP show off bollox, we’d have given our eye teeth for a 500+hp jobbie back in pre limiter days, doesn’t make a scrap of difference now you can only go as fast as the bloke in front up to about 56mph…its money that counts not willy waving.

The fella is a decent chap, known him for years. Good bloke.

I used to think the same. Till I got this 750. The time it saves running heavy is insane. The most notable example is loading fruit in Spain once, in my R440 its was two and a half days driving to Dieppe. In this I did it in a 9 and a 10, and even more surprising? I got better fuel consumption than the R440 did. About 8.8mpg. So big power can be justified.

Big power means you can keep a faster average speed, no slowing for the hills.

I find it hard to believe that even with big power you could save “half a day”

I must be lying then…

I Agree with a more powerful engine saving fuel when drawing heavy loads,

a small engine with low power will be at its limit working as had as it can, where as a big powerful lump with more power than enough is hardly breaking a sweat,

i done two identical runs, two different weeks, same weight etc but once in an R380 and once in an R500 V8. The 380 averaged 7.7 mpg and the R500 averaged 8.5mpg

not alot off difference, but with a company running alot of units, that’s alot of saving

A few times I’ve been on the A55 in North Wales going up that massive hill in Denbighshire (spelling?), I’ve had a load of cardboard/plastic and been going similar speed to a solo unit/or a more powerful unit with an empty trailer. Once we hit the hill the lighter/more powerful unit leaves me standing. I drop down to about 40mph, the hill is what, a couple of miles long? Once I get to the top the other vehicle is nowhere to be seen and very rarely will catch the other vehicle, even all the way to halfway down the M56. Thats only on a short local run from North Wales. Imagine that on a long road trip to Spain, all those times you have to slow down on a hill, the more powerful motor will make up time. The amount of hills big or small from here to Spain, it all adds up.

fair comment, but, now explain the need for it running containers out of Felixstowe :unamused:

It doesn’t have to be willy waving, it could be ■■■■ taking, to wind up some of those drivers who must have the biggest most powerful motor and get really stroppy when they don’t get it. If it was me I’d wait until asked about it, and do what Juddian says and tell 'em. “no that not the bhp that my weekly take home pay”

I know drivers who see them as sport and takes every opportunity to wind them up, it’s great fun watching a real pro at this, normally leaves the poor bloke dazed and confused.

Because if your in a brand new 750hp volvo pulling out of felixstowe then you feel a sense of satisfaction compared to a smaller every day wagon lol

so, it’s got nothing to do with pulling up the big hills (Orwell Crossing) then

basically, willy waving
