The Green Pound was for agricultural reasons and yes it was milked for all it was worth pun intended
As for coal, firstly there was a tariff put on UK coal only to subsidise the decommissioning of the nuclear plants (for some reason not foreign coal■■?)
Then Billy Liar put a “green tax” on coal of £9 per ton
Then the coalition doubled it in April last year.

The fact remains each time they are exported from UK to Belgium they count towards the value of exports to the EU that never were.Meanwhile the ‘real’ EU exports from them to us to us are flooding in with no balance in ‘real’ exports from us to them going back.
Jesus wept ! The fact remains that the only reason we were carting the bloody stuff backwards and forwards was simply to milk the system, not to make the trade figures look better or worse, but as you mentioned them therefore that MUST have been the sole reason.
Also the amount of the cargo that was lost every time the grab spilt some on the deck and over the side could have fed half the starving children in Africa but that wasn’t part of the exercise either so as irrelevant as your trade figures in the context of the post.
