TonyCBR:
Right let me get this right, you were leaving a services, couldnt join carriageway because it was busy?
Why didnt you position yourself in such a way as to avoid the said situation, You can see its busy, from your description there would have been plenty of room had you used all the slip, thus mr car driver has to then either go outside as opposed to inside or wait behind you, and giving you plenty of room to join carriageway.
Not saying your wrong, but your positioning could have been better
That slip is on a bend up a hill. There is a sign further down which lights up when some one is on the slip road but to be honest, it is not the best slip road to get out off in a lorry
RobRob:
Friday 13th, I’m pulling out of a service station on the A1 Northbound. Quite a short slip road, so almost a give way as opposed to a slip road.
[zb] moron, gentleman of Indian origin that works in the garage has just finished his shift. As the A1 is busy, he becomes impatient and squeezes between the nearside of my trailer and a lamp post, mounts the pavement and proceeds to drive along the pavement in order to get in front of me on the slip road.
Trouble is, the first I knew of this, is when I go to pull away, accelerating hard in 2nd with a full load of sugar beet on board…just happened to glance in nearside mirror to see this moron being dragged along by my trailer mudguards!!!
Upon questioning this prick, it turns out, ‘they always do it when it is busy’!!!
Is it me or has the world gone mad?
Wouldn’t mind, it it was my first week in the job and really coulda done without that!
Lovlyperson:
Dont bring it that Way
Just say a Car driver.
Crimewatch will be interesting if they adopt this non descriptive pc bs. Imagine an appeal;
“A man (or woman so’s not to discriminate on grounds of gender) is wanted for (whatever); Age (can’t say as it’s ageist) but they were driving a (can’t say as other cars are available). Skin colour can’t be mentioned due to racism rules…”
There was a case once where a description of a “fat woman” in a dangerous driving case, had a witnesses statement disregarded because it COULD BE offensive…
RobRob:
*Something I may or may not have done on the A414 at the Colney Roundabout in the early part of last year but cannot confirm in case I incriminate myself.
It was me your honour! But I did manage to punt the Nissan Micra up the arse because he stopped at a green light . Yes I know it was my fault because I was looking at the moron coming up my inside. There would of been an accident whatever that day , I am gutted though the Chav in the fiat panda got away without a scratch!
BTW I only read this post because of the title, I thought he was describing me !

I was talking about my incident with the car that didn’t turn left to St Albans.
I haven’t read all the BS on this thread but for my tuppence worth, RobRob, you have my sympathy and all the people that are saying he should have checked his nearside mirror before pulling away are knobs.
Could someone explain to me why with all the perfectionist drivers on here, why do accidents happen??
I wouldnt have looked because you just wouldn’t have thought an idiot would dare to come up the inside of you through such a small gap,I bet the prick out of the garage doesn’t do that again!
Me,I’d have called the police as I thought driving along the pavement was an offence.
This forum is really starting to pee me off with the amount of do gooding, perfectionist drivers on here,I remember what my grandad used to say,“he who doesn’t make mistakes doesn’t do a fat lot!”
We’re all human arnt we?
If I ■■■■ up,there’s no way you’ll get me putting anything on here,Christ you’d be hung, drawn and quartered with the kangaroo court that resides on here.
OllieNotts:
I check my ns mirror every time I pull away, it appears to me the only moron on here is the OP and anyone who justifies not doing so. If you cant drive properly then you shouldnt be moaning about anyone else who cant drive properly. You are supposed to be the/a professional…
Says trucknets most incompetant, accident prone, failed lorrydriver. 800 posts of it.
The op’s done nothing wrong. Who would expect a car to undertake on the pavement.
I had this a few Saturdays ago in Royton near Manchester. Oddly enough, another Asian chap though he was a taxi driver.
I was turning left in a dedicated left turn lane into traffic. The unit was onto the main road and the trailer had about 18" gap from the kerb and I was sat back with my handbrake on. I was lucky to catch some movement in the mirror and saw him driving along the pavement to push in front of me! I considered just driving into him cos I had witnesses to what he’d done sat behind me. I lit him up and blasted the horn instead and he didn’t even look at me. As soon as the lights changed he was off, under and overtaking to save a few seconds.
Ah well, just put it down to experience and drove back to the yard. There really are some massive ■■■■■■■■■ on the road!
I bet you wish you’d never posted this topic now, and I wouldn’t blame you. The car driver was completely in the wrong, your on a single lane slip road, you are trying to merge on to a busy trunk road, your only priority for looking for traffic is from the right. The car driver, should never have come up your inside, he should have waited behind you. Especially as he worked there and should know the dangers after seeing or hearing about the amount of accidents there are at that particular spot,
Don’t listen to the so-called perfect drivers who are saying they would have seen it, most of them sit on top of bridges taking pictures of trucks and masterbating whilst fantasising about sitting on the drivers lap.
Think about it, your waiting to join a busy road, you have already done your mirror checks and all around you is clear, you have a pathway and obstacle on your near side, only an idiot would come up that side, you see a gap in the traffic and go for it, if you check all your mirrors again before you do the gap as gone and your waiting even longer to pull out.

Carryfast:
the next thing you know is when the law come looking for you and you’ve got to explain to them that you didn’t know anything about it before driving off honest ocifer.
Is that after the officer asks you the questions “You had good road position, you were obviously looking at the very busy a1 traffic as it was very hard for you to engage the traffic flow with your weight…but why did you not expect to see a car coming down your inside across the grass verge where there is no space and no road ?”.
Like I said, I would have looked in my mirror for my trailer clearance on the corner, but then so would you, if you were honest.
Hiya…you took some photos’ thats the best thing you did.don’t worry about the damage the insurance chaps
know all about theses drivers.a asian chap sort of run his car against my drive wheel tyre one day.
i could’nt work out how he managed to hit me…the only damage was the back bumper had pulled off the
plastic clips…i got some parcel tape and made a tempory repair so he could drive away.we changed names
and adresses. when the report come back to our firm the car was a total write off kinked roof bent back
axel split petrol tank the list went on and on. there was a letter saying it was a scam the insurance assor could
see the number plates had been changed onto a badly damaged car.the scrape was done on purpose
so the incident would be recorded and a claim was possible. your man may think he can get a new car from
your insurance.
good luck John
