Westmoorland Gloucester services

Hi folks, one of my colleagues is interviewing one of the boss’s of Westmoorland, owners of Gloucester services amongst others. Do you have any points or questions you would like raised? Post in here and I will pass them on.

If there is a lack of questions on this thread, it should be mentioned to him as a compliment because I’m sure if it was the boss of Roadchef or Moto the complaints would be pouring in.

All we want is clean well kept facilities and a decent selection of quality scran & Gloucester delivers on that. Drivers I think are generally sick of having to fork out high prices to rip off merchants like WHSmith, EAT and Burger King for low grade/unhealthy rubbish whilst tolerating filthy toilets and showers. The others seem to be slowly taking note, Roadchef I notice now have a Spar at Northampton with a good range, Westmoreland could take credit for that.

Prior to the services opening there was talk of having an amount of electric hook up points for fridge motors overnighting. I’ve been in both a few times but tbh have never taken notice of whether they are there or not.

I’m sure a few of our ahem “more sensitive lambs” would park there if there was no risk of having their sleep disturbed by noisy fridges (which are probably delivering stuff THEY are about to put in their freezers!). So could that question be asked please?

One drivers shower per side just isn’t good enough to be honest

they didn’t expect us " professional hgv class one trampers " to wash. :grimacing: only one each at tebay :sunglasses: no difference. BEST SERVICES IN ENGLAND the pair of them. :sunglasses:

I thought they had more showers on the SB after realising one on the NB was a bit light.
Who are they chatting to Sarah Dunning or Laurence King ?
Ps there’s no e in Westmorland
Anyway those muppets at the AA love MOTO theaamagazine.com/2015/sprin … e-stations

If possible please ask the man with briefcase this question…

Do you think that lorry drivers… some that are away most/all of the week deserve a clean and respectable shower service, and why? also going on from this question, why is it so difficult to provide this when asked for? Finance… what?

Why would you use the services at tebay when they own j38 truck stop as well this why I asked the question I did

i agree one shower each side is not enough.
But if you put more in and don’t charge people that’s when you get drivers just nipping in and the facilities get run down.
I think Westmorland is absolutely fantastic, some say food is overpriced but it’s proper food and the farm shops are amazing.
If I’m passing one on a Friday night or Saturday morning I always pop in to get a pack of sausages to take home as they are truly the best Iv ever had.
Tell mr Westmorland to keep it up an absolute breath of fresh air to the British driver

So is it just " class one" road Angels who wash at the end of the day? I’m class two since 2002 and staying that way. There is so much snobbery among “class one” elite. We class two are just as important to the economy and road network…oh and some of us are extremely well paid too. We’re not all just knuckle draggers and agency scum neither. In fact, some if us actually get on the rear of the vehicle sometimes to facilitate loading or unloading. Perhaps some class one’s should try that then they may gain a bit more respect from Joe public, instead of leaning against fuel pumps crying to other drivers about" I’ve got to go here, I’ve got to go there…on and on. Camaraderie on the road…it doesn’t exist amongst “class one” Angels. Class ones…like BMW drivers. No manners, no indicators no respect…ha ha…no life!!! Get real. Sorry for upsetting genuine artic drivers…but its the ■■■■■■■■■" look at me in my artic, I’m important" brigade who are letting everyone down.

The exit to the HGV parking is a pain in the arse. Giving way on your blind side

Only stayed at Gloucester s/b once. I thought it was wonderful a blueprint for all services, there was definitely more than one shower there. Electric hook ups for fridges would be a good idea and though I didn’t use them the diesel pumps look badly designed.

Just out of interest would companies expect those to be free or chargeable ?
Quite a few of the service areas are having to upgrade power supplies into the sites for electric car charging.
Also as the main purpose of services areas is for drivers to take a break not a rest period as they are not default ‘truckstops’ wouldn’t this encourage the wrong type of parking on the facilities? ?

I could be way wide of the mark here but isn’t the electricity used to charge the electric cars free at the point of use? I thought it was generated on site by panels and wind turbines. I stand to be corrected though.

On the subject of fridge hook ups I think that any driver paying to stop overnight should be entitled to a quid or two’s worth of 'leccy in with the price tbh.

Will you keep it free to use your electricity pumps?

At the moment we’re focused on helping electric car owners to get around the UK easily. This may change in future, but we’ve no plans to start charging for our electricity pumps right now.

It’s all to do with OLEV gov.uk/government/organisat … n-vehicles and the grant funding in place don’t be expecting “free” electricity to last forever.

The ‘free’ trailer electric bit is up to how operators run their business I suppose like haulage operators could do buy 100miles get 10 free or want 10t delivering only pay for 5t, for some strange reason some hauliers may have a part load charge.

I agree with all of the positive comments - excellent Services.
Would the owners consider some sort of loyalty card for LGV drivers, giving say a 20% - 25% discount against any food and drink purchases?
Don’t get me wrong, the food is very good but on the pricey side if you are a regular customer.
An incentive like this would in my opinion certainly encourage more drivers to stop at the Westmorland Services Group.

Spot on Accident waiting to happen. Change the road markings.! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Solid white line or give way lines on the main drag giving hgv exit priority :open_mouth:

Tell the stingy git who manages the filling station on the Northbound side that since he instructed his staff to stop giving Texaco Star Reward points for bulk purchases of fuel, that I’ve stopped buying my 1,000 litres a week there. :stuck_out_tongue:

Stopped at both of them both good, the only compliant is the price of the food compared to the meal voucher. f they upped it probably stop more often. Better than Strensham and Michael wood
