Will have a few pictures of Tilcon wagons on Welsh Border tipper operators forum soon. Was talking to Paul Griffiths last saturday when my good lady took some pictures of his lorries which are on the same forum.
Ross Roadways bought an A reg Foden tractor unit off Paul’s dad Clarence back in the eighties. If your dad came from Huntington I probably knew him, I drove for C W Griffiths, Brisbanes and Philpotts out of the quarries in the sixties early seventies.
hi dave, my dad drove for tony lewis at peterchurch in the late 60’s early 70’s then went on to ARC premix at belmont then on to ross roadways . he drove that foden they bought off cw griffiths A739 OFO they had a tag axle put on her to put her up to 38 ton. neville j henry bought the wagon off R/R in the late 80’s and i belive the tag axle ended up on 1 of walters of pontlliw’s ERF’s cheers paul
Hi Paul,
When I was driving, Ron Powell was driving for Tony Lewis, he had two D series Ford four wheeler tippers, one with a perkins V8, the other which he drove himself had the ford 360 turbo, same engine as the two six wheeler fords that Philpotts had. Tony still has six tippers running out of the Gore, I will try and get some old pictures off him to post on the tipper forum.
Cheers Dave
Dave the Renegade:
Excellent picture of Mansel Davies , have you got any more.
Cheers Dave
T’was actually me wot took that!
I’ll try to get a few of Mansel’s now the weather’s a bit better; that one was at Carmarthen Truck Show last year. Mansel Davies run quite a few bulk blowers of considerable antiquity, and there are still a couple of F12’s around on local work.
One small firm I don’t think anyone’s mentioned is Jones’ of Bethania; apart from a well turned out working fleet they have a superb 8-wheeler ERF on the classic scene.
Not very good light on that one, sorry. Carmarthen Truck Show again; it’s convenient for me, I live less than a mile from the showground!
This boy’s fairly local, not quite sure exactly where though, but wherever your rugby alleigance lies that’s a lovely paint job…
Brilliant pictures Gnasty Gnome, have seen a lot of Mansel Davies older lorries when Ive been down to Pembrokeshire. I used to go down about four times a week until three years ago, saw the F 7 bulkers and tippers also the F12 and 10’s, did have a ride up to theIr yards at Llanfyrnach ( probably spelt it wrong ) saw a lot of canibilised vehicles, obviously good for spares. We do see a few of the newer lorries around this way. I live between Presteigne and New Radnor, just off the A44.
Cheers Dave.
The rugby themed FH runs out of the Cwmbran area. I was impressed with the turnout at the Carmarthen show last year. This year I intend taking my Scania 142 down there.

Did not have much time to look at the lorry, we were heading for home, only spotted it coming , my good lady just managed to get the pic as passing.
