Hi there,
Is Owens Road Services at Llanelli too far east?
No Owens are part of the Welsh Haulage scene, as you know, a big outfit, there,s also , P D Rees at Ammanford, smaller, but still part of the Welsh Hauliers,Greene,s at Crossshands, very much to the forefront on the fuel protests.
I remember CVH, Alfie Jones a very good singer drove Middle-East and Turkey for them and there was Hicks, Peter the Plater drove for them aswell on Middle-East and Turkey.

they used to do a lot of work for kp out of billingham and ashby,i was the shunter at ashby on nights for a while and Gerald was always on the phone asking about his loads, always came to see us at xmas with a box full of wine, all with our names on them sadly non of the other contractors bothered to do this
he had a lady driver that was based in billingham that drove a premium, but she left just before he finished, which i think was about 4 yrs ago.i think his trucks ran from the renault dealer in cowpen lane billingham which was next door to to the kp factory.
There is also John Pearce of Glynneath who runs a lot of trucks, not so many of the bigger hauliers left, not so much steel coming out of Wales.Maybe now the coal seems to be making a come back, we will see a few more hauliers.
Correct me if I’ m wrong but Glynneath is in South Wales. CVH, and Hicks are also , both as far as I can remember on the old road from Newport to Carephilly,Hicks at Rhiwderinn, CVH, at Bedwas. If I remember rightly Alfie was a big guy. I hitched a lift with him one day back from Dover,in his Transconti, he had been away for 6 weeks.CVH motors at that time were painted in similar colours to Astran, but I believe they were working for Davies Turner. As it happens at a young age I tried to get on with both ,each telling me to come back when I had more exp .Hicks,I believe won a big U.K. const eqpt contract a few years ago, don’t know if they do Europe any more. As it happens I dealt with CVH in my last job in the U.K . and they were still running to the M\E with Scania’s. I forget the owners name, a bit of a character, mostly dealing with his daughter. She really was a chip off the old block. It would be intresting to know how both companie’s are doing. Paul J

Paul,
There is Hicks from Newport running about 50 trucks. Quite agree about Glynneath being in South Wales, but earlier in this topic someone asked why Owens Llanelli did not count, as West Wales, so if Llanelli has moved into West Wales why not bring Glynneath in to keep the topic going. We don,t get to many Welsh topics on here, I tried a few, so if you have any idea,s, bring them on.
Cheers Dave
what about Ronnie s Evans from Llanelli. still going and getting bigger every year
They run reefer’s from a few depots in south and west Wales don’t they.
